Morale Problems

Anybody ever seen negative morale?

Is this a bug or what? I mean what does -1 morale mean anyway?

-47 was the lowest I've seen, I think. It can result from repeated exposure to fear effects, such as ghosts or other creatures with a fear aura.

-47? wow.

If you click on the things on that screen, it will give you more info. Clicking on Morale should tell you why its -1. There is also a ton of info hidden behind the other items on that screen.

Good screen capture; any problems running Dom3 on Vista?

You were not asking me, but as I have some experience. No. Had some problems- but I'll blame that on laptop intel integrated graphics, not Vista. I did find a little workaround for that.

So far as Ive seen, like most windows there is a big difference between "formated/installed" or "upgraded from something else" with vista problems.

My Vista came on my pc. So Formated/installed.
I have had no problems at all on Vista. Works much better than my old PC, a 98 se, but I tribute that to the processing power, not the OS.

I do not have Vista installed now (reformatted back to XP), but when I had, Dominions was running OK. Really long holds when anti-virurs software checks daily, but that's not Dominions's or Vista's fault.

Judging by that screen shot, that militia is in enemy dominion, and the enemy has the Dark Skies global up.

I think Ramsheads deduction was partially from the blackened sky in the background.

It is the victim of Dark Skies. Good call ramshead. THe enemy dominion is a 10 or so.

I was just wondering how Dominions handles tha math on this. Does it make sence to the program? Does it round up to a zero? Is a -1 any better than a -47?

Re: Morale Problems

For the most part individual units do not make morale checks (with the exception of solo thugs/SCs). Squads do.

Squad morale is calculated as an average of the individual morales for all the units that make up the squad. If a single unit in a squad has a -47 morale, that unit will have a much more significant impact on the average squad morale compared to a unit with a -1 morale.

However, in this situation, the entire squad may have a -1 morale. Everyone needs a clean pair of shorts.

If the Squad takes any significant damage or is subjected to a fear causing spell (dark skies?), they will have to make a morale check.

Morale roll: squad morale + DRN + survivor bonus (0-5)
vs fear roll: 13 + DRN

If the fear roll is > than the morale roll, the whole squad runs for the exits.

With a squad morale of -1 and a survivor bonus of 5, the squad would have a 94% or failing the morale check.

Time to start pointing fingers. "Who the hell is responsible for sending us on this suicide mission anyway?"

AFAIK Vista would require a format/install, it won't upgrade from XP. Upgrading from one Vista version to another shouldn't cause any problems, all the new licence key does is unlock certain services and applications (basically, all Vista versions install from the same disk, the OS is then configured according to the licence key)

As for Doms 3 it works like a charm. Only thing apart from integrated graphics / unstable drivers which could cause problems is the permissions (if you let it install to Program Files, you'll need to be logged on as admin to patch and possibly play), but you can bypass that by changing the install location to a non-private folder.
