Patch Feature Sugestion: Better Battle Summary

I hope this is an okay place to post this...

After a battle we are told how many troops went in, and how many died. But often I care more about which types died. I can look at my current army, but I don't remember exact numbers often. I can watch the battle, but that can take a while, and sometimes I'll miss things. I was wondering if a battle report could perhaps show all units (in the same way as the screen when you give battle orders) and have a red X or something through croaked units. If one wanted to get fancy, units that got injured could also be displayed, with a heart overlay or something. This seems like it could be manageable to implement, and might be nice.

Also, battles when you storm a castle don't give casualty reports, which would be nice.

Thanks for listening! And awesome game!

I agree, it would be nice to have castle casualties, but also, Demons seem to now be counted as normal troops in the summery instead of undead like they used to be, I'd suggest to make a Demons lost in battle variable for the summary.

I'll third that. It would be fine just to have a text summary of losses, broken down by troop type:

Helhirdings - 0 casualties of 30
Serf Warriors - 50 casualties of 50

Big distinction between that, and just telling us the losses were 50/80! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Although with numbers that simple I think you might notice that you had 30 Helhirdlings left and 0 serf warriors, although I get the idea http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

This feature would be nice. I would like to know if losses in a battle report are elite troops or militia. But this has been a feature that has been asked for a while. It does not seem to be high on Illwinters priority list.

I would really just like to see a screen with each exact troop lost, including any gear or equipment they might have had for when you lose a thug or SC. All you'd have to do is use the troop's unique ID number, and display them in an army setup style screen with a different row for each troop type.

I'm sure they've been asked about this one a lot.

At the very least, castle storming should generate a battle report.

We have http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Big changes to this are not likely. Perhaps categories like demons, but not by unit type.

If a list of all units was made it could become very long. In my current MP game i have armies with dozens or several dozens of different units, many in singular since their fellows has died (firedrakes I no longer sumnmon etc). If all of these were listed I think I would only find it annoying. But that's me.

Fortress casualties is a bit more likely, but lower than bugs and mod commands on the priority list. Since it is something that has been whacky and complained about since dom2, it is unlikely that JK feels anything but angst when pepole talk about it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. Heck, even I get angst about it, and I don't program. Best way to cure angst is doing something more fun, like adding a new feature.

How about listing out sacred units casualties out of normal ones? (seperated lists for scared commander/demon/magic beings are not necessarily needed)

That also makes much sense since those guys are elites and decisive in most cases.

I think the units thing is a little much toa sk for and I also agree that it'd be annoying. I mean imagine poor Ermor counting up their loses. However, Castles and Demons!!! please!!!

How is this for a more fun suggestion:

Could spells affect province type? For example, a nature spell could make wasteland not wasteland, or create a forest. An earth spell could make mountains. A death spell could make wasteland... A water spell could make water? dont know about that one. (but in age of wonders, the game whose forums I heard about this game, there is a flood spell - still, i dont knwo if that would work here.

One problem with this (in my mind) would be that the map would not change appearance, which could be misleading. But changes the terrain flags seems doable, no?

Re: Patch Feature Sugestion: Better Battle Summary

Could a separate line for commanders and mages be added? Far too often I've had an enemy say "but I killed as many or more of your commanders as you killed of mine", and I have to reiterate "but you didn't kill any mages, and I killed eight of yours..."

It wouldn't add a lot to most people's games, but I know that my enemies would be more demoralized.

Also, a GP and/or gem counter would be awesome. I'd love to see a battle fought where my enemy loses 4K GP and 200 gems in troops and I lose 150 GP and 10 gems in troops.
