Starting over.

I'm delving back into SE4 again, but I'm reinstalling from scratch. Are the mod links here still up to date?

Not really.

Re: Starting over.

Any SEIV mod that PBW supports should be in the File Library there; I'm less certain about whether the SEV section is up-to-date.

Otherwise, I use spaceempires.net and the SEWiki to track down the most current versions of mods.

Hey! Welcome back! I remember you from... gee, was it even before PBW? Or was it one of the first PBW games I played?

Re: Starting over.

Ok, thanx for the links. I'll get to them this weekend (I hope)

My life is still pretty hectic, but I'm trying to make some time to get back into this addictive game.

Ed K.: Yea, I was in PBW in the early days... I think it was Junkyard Wars 2 we played together in... And I hosted a P&N game for a while that I think you were in.

Yeah, I remember those games... remember SJ's trader empire from the P&N game? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Starting over.

It's unfortunate that the quirks of the map lead to an over-sized Vorlon empire with a ton of space to itself.. Those pesky SJ nomadic ships just couldn't eat up any space from colonization to stem the tide. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

dumbluck September 25th, 2007 01:55 AM

Re: Starting over.

IIRC, that "empty Vorlon space" didn't START OUT so empty...

Re: Starting over.

How coincidental. I also decided to start playing SE4 again, I remember these forums well from the earlier days. I also bought SEV and have kind of mixed feelings. I think I'll try it out, especially with Balance and Gritty Econ and see if I can get some of whatever skills I once had back. Nice to see SJ and the rest of you are all still here.

Best part: I still have my cool icon!

And you know the best part? Check out my signature. That was from the first PBC game, and of course the site has changed since. I was some minister? Construction? I don't recall. I had dreams of grandeur and then life happened.

We currently have a PBC game (PBC IV) going on at spaceempires.net, which is always looking for new players.

Re: Starting over.

Dumbluck:
There was only one small empire to the north, which decided to act in a rather hostile manner to peaceful Vorlon exploration ships. Naturally, they had to be dealt with... But the space to the south and east, inside that big cut-off loop, was mostly empty. All that was there was some piddly nomad race. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Starting over. AGAIN

This time with a brand-spanking-new computer. Hopefully I can stay around a bit longer this time.

Unless you let some magic smoke out, odds are good that old PC can be fixed right up with a format c: and reinstall http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Having a second PC is great for keeping the main one clean.

yep. I have an XP disk..... and no auth. code to go with it..... I was hoping that I could turn it into a backup location, or possibly a hardware firewall. (I heard rumors there was a linux out there that would do that, but I haven't investigated....)

Putting linux on it for a safe internet browsing box & file archive is good.

Buy a new code for your copy of XP. You can get them from Microsoft. (Better yet, buy a new computer, get the info from that, then return it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif) NO crap, that happened to my neighbor, bought a brand new computer from Best Buy, took it home, set it up, and when he was prompted to register XP, it told him that his registration number was invalid. Then he found a disk in the CDRom drive. Took it apart, boxed it up, and returned it to Best Buy. When they tried to charge him their customary restocking fee, he told them to go to hell that they had sold him a used computer. He proved it too. The inside of the case was filled with dust. They gave him his money back and he ordered a Dell. (shudder). But he is very happy with it.

What do you mean new ambassador http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif?

Re: Starting over.

I just ordered Sins of a Solar Empire, but also found out it didn't have customizable ships. Hence, poked my head in here to find that I haven't played since v1.91!

I'd have to start studying all the files again just to figure out how to combine my favorite mods into one big monster mod that might actually work. *sigh* Maybe I'll wait a few more patches...SEIV still being supported and patched?

It's nice to see it's still active around here, Shrapnel's great to have hosted it even after it left their purview!

Aw, too bad about SE4. At least it has the next best thing: a great mod community! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Thanks for the Windowed SE4 Tool! It's bloody BRILLIANT! I've been wanting one of these since the game came out. Great job!
