Hi all.

New update - version 1.02 - 23 April 2013 !

I came recently back to Dominions 3 and update my old mod: Pangaea Improved.

Here is in attachment mod of an improved Pangaea for all Eras. "Improved" means with a lot of more sprites and units.
The main goal of Pangaea Imp(roved) is to enhance the roleplaying potential, keeping the gameplay as it is in Vanilla.

Here is a list of the new units and modifications for middle Era :
- Harpies : New sprites (I don't like the actual).
- Dryad Slinger : I think dryads aren't the only White Dryad we can recruit in Pangaea Forests. Dryads will help their satyrs cohabitants with slingers.
- Female Minotaur : Same caracteristics as minotaur, cosmetic.
- Female Centaur : Same caracteristics as Centaur Archer, cosmetic.

- Black Harpies : sprites change.
- Satyr Hunter : A stealthy satyr scout.
- Satyr Commander : Good commander and fighter for our satyrs army.
- "Wild" Satyr : With the version 3.10 of dominions come another satyr... But for Pythium. I integrate it as a regular commander of MA Pangaea.
- Satyr Elder : Old satyr who use little nature path, and maybe earth magic.
- Dryad "acolyte" : Young brown dryad. Use nature magic to help sacred white dryads.
- Minotaur Matron : Same caracteristics as minotaur lord, but with a maul.
- Centaur Chief : Leader of Centaurs Warriors.
- Centaur Hierophant : A female centaur commander, plus a berserk centaur hierophant who can lead sacred white centaurs.
- Paniic Mother : Loks like a Pan but don't attract maenads and with a emphasis on nature and healing (yes I know it's not very useful for Pangaea). Capital Only.
- Sultry Dryad : Dryad who can seduce men. Relatively weak and capital only. For RP essentialy.

A new pretender :
- White Pan : The most powerfull and respected of Panii.


A few new sites related to Pangaea

Early Pangaea and Late Pangaea also receive some improvements, a very few of them with more impact on gameplay (Black dryad are no more capital only for exemple).

You've given something priestly magic and no Sacred status, when you try and start it sayes "no holiness"

It's the Dryad commander.

I get why you have the female Pans, incase you don't want maerads(sp?) but why so much female of other things, like the minotaurs? you should have some stat variations or it's really just a waste of space.

For instance, females may be more careful in battle, and less prone to go berserk
-1 Attack
+1 Defence

-2 to berserk rating
-5 to recruitment cost

Just suggesting, anyhow, what I do like the look of are the dryad slingers and the harpies do look better for sure, but again why the male and female?

I play Dominions 3 essentialy in Solo Game. I can imagine my "avatar" - the pretender - leading armies, speaking with commanders, or strolling between people.
In my vision of Pangaea, I see minotaurs, centaurs, satyrs, dryads, males and females fight together against the civilised world.
Females units doesn't have any gameplay purpose, it's only for diversity, for the story (this female centaur are spouse of this hierophant, this female pandemoniac is in fact the mother of hero taurotyrannos, etc...).

To have little differences (-1 att, +1 def) between the two sex is a good idea.
But -2 to berserk rating ? mmmmh, I don't know. maenads or female minotaur must be very... Aggressive http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I don't find the holy commander who was not sacred. Do you have the id ? The mod runs properly at my computer (only this mod, dom 3.10).

PS (edit) : I don't test the mod with AI leading Pangaea.

Excellent job on the graphics. I would consider changing the text color on the banner to make it easier to read in game when the mod is enabled. Also, you may want to consider taking away (Or shorten) the horns from the female minotaurs to give them a more unique look from the males.

Another mod could use monster's id 2610 or 2608.
Feel free to change it manually. Otherwise I will modify slghtly the code to avoid the case.

Now that I've gotten through my mod delema I can make some observations for you oh and I'll just tell you now, don't feel obligated to do anything I suggest, I'm just voicing my opinion on things.

Firstly I reeeeeeeally like the dryad slingers, they should be put into the vanila game, for all ages.

as for the dryad hopolites, if you think about it, dryads fighting on the front line might be even rarer than in the late age, you may want to have them sacred and costing more.

Onto females and males, the sprites, even on a role play aspect seem rather pointless to me. I suggest making small stat adjustments to all the female units, the ones that are simply copies of he male ones at least, like even just -1 +1 stuff will make me wanna mix it all up and get both females and males.

Lastly I think you've done a great job on this mod, all the sprites are well done and the harpies and the dryad slingers should be put into the vanilla game. All and all I think you've made a great mod!!

oh, yeah early mistake for new modders, I'm surprised i didn't clear it up for you.

Some users can't open .rar files so you have to post everything in .zip

I'd just like to mention that, although I'm all in favor of variety, and you've done a lot of good work here, if you want to keep things mythologically consistent, then harpies only come in the female variety.

A male harpy might make a nice hero or other rare unit, with a backstory, but to add them just to correct a *percieved* lack, for the sake of roleplaying, rather than to add a new and useful unit, would be false in this particular case. It would be like adding another eye to the cyclops, just because human beings happen to have two eyes.

Dryads are the same, all female, and wedded to their trees.

Ofcourse, you're free to do what you like.

But in Dom3 Pangaea they aren't mythological creatures, they're a common race, like the birds you might find in your garden. Look at how many die in PD efforts. I don't think it's unreasonable to think they have male and female sexes.

It's true for all the factions in the game, why not a female Illithid ? I don't see why pangaea would need to have all units in twice the number needed. In most human civs, women are expected to take care of children (at medieval time).
So why the children of pangaea couldn't have their mother/father at home ?
It just seem to make redundant units. Only the true new units(ie : dryad slinger) are interesting, because I think pangaea could use a more diverse OB.

Why not a female illithid? Because Quenetar hasn't made a mod improving Rlyeh yet.

This mod isn't my cup of tea at all, but I can understand what he was going for and I think he made a great job of it.

Hi all,

After several years (!) I had give an update to my old mod : Pangaea Improved.
A few tweaks and some improvements. The biggest change is to also alter early pangaea and late pangaea.

The v1.02 mod file is in the first post of the thread.
