Magic Item Quick Reference for Dom 3?

I'm coming off a nearly 2-year long hiatus from Dominions (yay!) and was wondering if there's an updated version of Zen's incredibly useful MIQR PDF. I have the Excel databases but what was so great about Zen's PDFs is use of the icons.

Welcome back, Huntsman. When will you be ready for some multiplayer!?

Heya Morkilus! I'm glad to be back. I've just joined a newb/amateur Dom3 game with the guys over at quartertothree.com to ease my way back. I can't believe it's been nearly 2 years...

Anyway, hope to see you on the battlefield soon (on my side, of course). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

No update for that. We haven't seen Zen here for months. The only reference material for Dom3 so far is the Dom3 DB, which is admittedly rather unwieldy for what you are looking for.

On the other hand, the original spreadsheet for that PDF still exists and could be updated by someone who has the dedication to do so. I received it on the IRC channel by someone, I forgot who it was... Maybe Evilhomer or Folket, I don't know.

If I can get a copy of the original spreadsheet, I'd be happy to update the PDF.

Re: Magic Item Quick Reference for Dom 3?

I've started doing the update and I'm wondering what the special property "On Targets" means in the Dom3 manual. For instance, Smasher has the special prop "On Targets: Crusherknack".

Initially I thought it was the same as "On hit", which is self-explanatory, but there are references to "On hit" as well.

Anybody have any idea? I'm assuming it means that actually "hitting" your target isn't necessary for the effect to fire. Maybe you must actually target an area or unit, perhaps...

It is probably the same as "on hit", unless there is some way to determine that it actually uses a different flag. If you look at actual weapon data, Smasher has crusherknack as secondaryeffect, which means it only affects the target on hit. If it were a secondaryeffectalways type of extra effect, then it would hit regardless of whether the smasher blow hit or missed.

I don't know if you have looked at the Dom3 DB, but it has a page with the data on magic items, so you may find some useful information in there. It is substantially expanded from the Dom2 DB, so much so that the two documents have fairly little in common besides the naming conventions.

I thought maybe it meant that the effect is targetted by the player. For example, you'd have to choose to cast Crusherknack manually...

I have DomDB but it doesn't always go into specifics and in some cases either a) is missing an item completely or b) has less information than the manual and/or the old MIQR PDF.

I think what I'm going to do is just use the manual as the master source of data. Unfortunately, i don't have the time to examine each item in game.

Re: Magic Item Quick Reference for Dom 3?

The Dom3 DB item data has been collected by examining each item from the game, though in patch 3.08. The only changes to items in 3.10 compared to 3.08 is IIRC that the Lightless Lantern and Boots of Quickness both got a slightly expanded description. To my knowledge, no items are actually missing.

The manual is plain wrong in a number of occasions. Maybe you're just looking at the wrong place in the Dom3 DB. All you need are the things in the "BaseI" table, and that list is exhaustive. You don't need any other reference but that one.

Re: Magic Item Quick Reference for Dom 3?

Hmm, it must be that an item's name doesn't always match the name in the manual. For instance, I see a "Lightning Rod" in the manual but not in the DB.

Re: Magic Item Quick Reference for Dom 3?

OK, so I'll use the DB for the details but the item name will have to come from the manual, which seems to match the name the players see in the game.

Getting back to the DB, looking at Smasher as an example, what is the column "eff#"? It shows 328. Where can I cross-reference that number?

ok, looks like 328 is Crusherknack. But looking at the Dom2 MIQR it says Smasher also has the ability of "+Damage vs Constructs/Undead" but I don't see that anywhere in the DB. So which is right?

It's in there. If you have difficulty finding something then I recommend to sort the rows by name: select everything (ctrl+A) and then sort (Data -> Sort) by column B. That should help.

Take a look at the properties of Crusherknack in the weapons page. Smasher, at its heart, is a weapon, which has the secondaryeffect crusherknack, which deals extra damage to constructs. That's the property of the cursherknack weapon.

So, ifa weapon item lists which weapon it grants, go to the weapons display page and look it up. If that weapon has a secondaryeffect or secondaryeffectalways listed for it, look that weapon up in the weapons display to see what it does. Targets that get hit will suffer both effects. This is how e.g. Fire Brands work: first the target is hit with the firebrand's 12 ap damage, then everyone in the square is hit with 8 ap fire damage due to the secondaryeffectalways of small area fire.

Alrighty, I found more data on another tab. Looks like everything I need is in the db but, man, it's a big job hunting it all down! This is going to take a while...better grab a Snickers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So, have you made progress on the Quick Reference thing? I think that there are really a lot of people waiting for it, who don't carry their manual with them at all times and don't want to open Edi's DB for something like this... me included.

I don't have a helluva lot of energy right now, but is something like this kinda what you're looking for?

http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dominio...s/Items_of_Air

I wrote it, but don't have immediate plans to follow up with any of the other paths. My attention's been sapped by work and my focus has changed to actually being able to win one of thes multiplayer games one of these days.... Pooh. I keep losing instead.

Unfortunately, with my wife's recent 40th b-day and the holidays now upon us, I've had little time to work on this. I'm hoping to return to after the new year...
