Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Count me in on this too! Any good LE nations for noobs like myself?
Thanks!

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I am interested...

I'll know if I'll be able to join by this weekend. Don't reserve a slot for me unless I post a list of five preferences, or private message.

If I decide I can't join, I'll offer myself as a sub for whomever might need such.

Aethyr November 9th, 2007 07:11 AM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I'm interested, please reserve a spot for me.

I have not played a LE game yet, so I'll have to do some testing and get back to you w/nation preferences. Should I PM you or post my preferences here? Thanks

Aezeal November 9th, 2007 08:13 AM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I would like in.
I need a few pointers though.. the balance mod I can understand... to balance things a bit mroe I guess.. shouldn't be a problem

What does the worthy heroes mod do and how will it affect my game, are there things I should do (get mroe luck ?)

please explain.

I'll post my race choice later (LA nub here) IF I'M getting late in responding PLEASE message me I don't want to miss another game.

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Welcome DonCorazon, LP, Aethyr, and Aezeal.

DonCorazon: I wouldn't worry too much about what nation you choose. Just review the various choices and then choose the ones that make the "cool light" go on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Lazy_Perfectionist: It would be *great* if you'd play! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif There is a chance that we won't be able to start this weekend because we're waiting on Quantum_Mechani to update the Conceptual Balance mod for 3.10. Also, we might not have 17 players quickly enough.

Aethyr: You got a slot! You're welcome to PM me your preferences or post them here. I will also send you my email address via PM.

Aezeal: The Worthy Heroes mod simply tweaks the national heroes a little so that the heroes are "mucho funner and specialer". It is not a huge change, and I would not alter your pretender design because of it. Glad you'll be joining us.

Meglobob November 9th, 2007 06:03 PM

The worthy heroes mod and indeed the epic heroes mod (MA only) are great. They do exactly what they say, you get great, groovy heroes. Which generally are alot better than in the normal game.

Download the mods and improve your SP game fun considerably. Remember to see the heroes you have a better chance if you take Luck 3 as one of your scales. I think this gives you 5% chance per turn of one turning up. But I am not 100% certain on this.

Amhazair November 9th, 2007 10:38 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I heard the chance of getting a hero was 3%/turn +/- your luck scale, so 6% for luck 3, 0% for misfortune 3. I didn't test it myself, so don't quote me on this.

Conceptual balance mod, alright. Sign me up.

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

When does the game expect to start? Or rather... after a nation is assigned to me, will I have time to practice or need I select nations I'm familiar with?

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

one week for final pretender submission sounds about right

;p

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

so with that mod luck 3 is a must?

PashaDawg November 10th, 2007 09:39 AM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Hi LP: I originally hoped to start the game by Sunday, but we need to wait until we have enough players and if we're gonna use the CB mod, we need to wait for QM to update it. If it is going to take QM a long while, then I would recommend that we play Vanilla.

Aezeal: No. Luck 3 is not a must unless you really want the heroes, and they are in no way essential for winning the game. Also, many strategies involve opting for misfortune in order to use the design points elsewhere.

Aezeal November 10th, 2007 12:47 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

a vanilla game would be ok with me..

Lazy_Perfectionist November 10th, 2007 12:48 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Thanks, Pashadawg, but that's not the answer I'm looking for. Let me rephrase my question:

Roughly speaking (and I won't hold you to this), when will nations be assigned? Roughly speaking, how long after that will it be until we need our pretenders in and the game gets going?

I am specifically interested in how much time I will have to get ready once I'm assigned a specific nation, and whether I can afford to pick a nation I'm unfamiliar with or whether I'll need to select only ones I'm already ready to play.

PashaDawg November 10th, 2007 01:07 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Hi LP:

I would say we'll have about 1 - 2 days to submit pretenders.

Should I put you on the list of players, or are you still thinking about it? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

my experience w/ the old cb mods and 3.10 is that the spell mod and the nations mod give an error, but the simpler pretender and scale mods don't. oh, and if we were to have until next weekend until we started (since i have no experience w/ late game nations, and would need to experiment on a pretender a bit), I'd consider (against my better judgement and all that is holy) joining in the fun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Lazy_Perfectionist November 10th, 2007 01:59 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Hmm... I'm still thinking about it. It's a problem that the only Late Era race I've played is Atlantis. There's plenty of others I'm interested, but haven't played before.

Bluebird November 10th, 2007 02:27 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Well Lazy - time for some experimentation. I am also trying to pay a nation that I have no real experience with ... do not try to be over-prefectionistic :-)

Bluebird November 10th, 2007 02:28 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I do not mind play Vanilla, but I prefer the CB mod. With CB, I feel that I have a better choice of Pretenders. Vanilla has too unbalanced pretenders and you always end up using the same ones. But as I said, I do not really mind.

PashaDawg November 10th, 2007 03:36 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

We could choose to play with just the Conceptual Balance Scales and Pretender mods.

Might also need to play with Endo's quick fix mod for Pythium and Tien Chi.

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Well... I'm not interested in perfection, but as from my first venture with Atlantis I need to ensure I can seize even just my surrounding provinces. I'll join in, though I'll be have less reservations about going AI than usual.

In alphabetical order:
Atlantis, Agartha, Caelum, Jomon, Patala, Pangaea, T'ien Ch'i

In order of preference, I'll probably put Atlantis last. I don't like to play the same race in two simultaneous games. Still, it's one I'm familiar with, and with a different starting position, who knows... All the rest are more or less the same to me. Though I prefer having more national summons and a death focus.

I suppose I'll sort them for you anyways, with several other criteria, being undead, strat move, simplicity of concept, vague feeling. It doesn't make a big diff, but if you don't have a die to cast..

Patala, T'ien C'hi, Agartha, Jomon, Pangaea, Caelum, Atlantis

Actually, because of all these monkey debates, I really want Patala.

EDIT:
Patala > Agartha > T'ien C'hi > Pangaea > Jomon > Caelum > Atlantis

Aezeal November 10th, 2007 05:12 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

let me know which race ASAP plz so I can focus on thinking about pretenders.. I usually make double bless pretenders but for these races I might need some research and maybe a completely different strat.. I noticed blessings ain't all.. and good scales work all age..

(he knows my race choice already)

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I am hoping to have 17 players. So, I am going to wait a little before assigning nations. Hopefully, we will have a full roster by Sunday night. Then I can assign nations, and I will give players a few days to craft their pretenders.

Aezeal November 10th, 2007 05:23 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

so it's gonna be vanilla then? and what map?

PashaDawg November 10th, 2007 05:28 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

Hi Aezeal: You can find the map link in the first post of this thread.

One player requested the Conceptual Balance mod early on. I am happy to play vanilla, too, although we might want to use the quickfix that was set up to deal with the broken things in late Pythium and Tien Chi. See here: http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...o=&fpart=1

We will probably use the Worthy Heroes mod, too.

We will finalize all such details in the next day or so once we have 17 players.

archaeolept November 10th, 2007 05:30 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

what about the CB pretender mod? it's stand-alone, and does give a wider latitude of good pretender choices.

I am one of the Stardock Offer Noobs (a "SON") so please indulge my ignorance....

For the mods, we just just download them and save in the Mod folder? Any FAQs somewhere on using mods? Thanks.

PashaDawg November 10th, 2007 05:42 PM

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I will make a decision about the Mods by tonight or tomorrow (Sunday). By then, we should have our list of players, hopefully, too.

I will also make it easy for all players by emailing out the mods so everyone will have what they need.

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

yah to play in a game, just d/l and put in the mods folder. to design a pretender or play a game you start yourself, go to preferences>mods and enable the ones you want. Currently, enabling all the Conceptual Balance mods w/ 3.10 will error out.

I will email you the mods. I can't seem to post them to the forum right now.

Just need 2 more players! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

My preference :

1- Chtis
2- agartha

4- Ulm
5- Atlantis

Re: EPOTARA (PBEM Game) - Open

I am just waiting on one player to send me his player preferences, and then I will go ahead and work out the nation assignments. I have made a spreadsheet of all of the preferences.

If we don't have a final player tonight, then I suggest that we just play with 16 players so we can get the game started this week.

I will join if you still have a slot open.

Utgard, Caelum, Jomon, Arcosephale, Patala

I am just waiting for 2 players to send me their nation choices (originally, I thought it was just one). Then I will be able to announce the nation assignments.

I expect that we will start the game next weekend so players will have a bit of time to prepare their pretenders and test things.

Mods

Wraithlord sent me the following comment yesterday in connection with the RAND game, and I thought it would be best to offer this up to you all, in case players decide to play Vanilla instead (the RAND game would use the same mods as this game):

"I ran a short test game with the said mods and of a few battles one
actually gave different battle results than seen in battle replay. I'm
not really sure what to make of it."

Wraithlord was not sure if the same problem would result in 3.10 Vanilla. Does anybody else have thoughts or similar experiences?

I'll shoot to make a decision by tonight re whether to stay with the current mod set.

Pasha

Re: Mods

If vanilla, you need one of the hotfixes mods.

archaeolept November 12th, 2007 01:36 PM

Re: Mods

what mods is wraithlord referring to? I can't run the old CB mod w/ 3.10 w/out it erroring out (nagot glick fell). The differing battle reports is an old issue, and there seem to be a number of things that could cause it. Personally, it doesn't bother me - an inspection of the troops will show you what is left, and the battle it does show is an equally valid and informative possibility http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

PashaDawg November 12th, 2007 03:08 PM

Re: Mods

We'd be using the following mods, according to my current plan:

CB Scales Mod
CB Pretender Mod
Worthy Heroes Mod 1.8
and
Endoperez's Quickfix mod for Dom 3.10 (It fixes Late Pythium's sacred-hydra issue and an issue with Tien Chi.)

The complete CB mod needed to be fixed. IIRC, this was because of spelling chanages in Dom 3.10. I have a fixed version of the the full CB mod, but I don't think the errors were an issue in the Scales and Pretender mods. Correct me if I am wrong. (I'll try to do some tests when I get home.)

PashaDawg November 12th, 2007 03:21 PM

Re: Mods

I am now thinking that we can stick with the current mod set without great risk. Please see the dicussion in the RAND thread.

Let me know if you have any strong concerns.
