Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
OK, we've had the "where are you from" thread and "your favourite book", and since I've just got back from the pub I thought I'd start another one: "What do you drink?"
Me then: -Lager mostly, especially French and Belgian lager. -NOT Budweiser, which ain't so good. -Weissbeer (ie Hoegaarden) is my favourite but it's hard to find round here. Also partial to: -good wine (French Merlot is my favourite, but anything decent will do), -whiskies (Irish or scotch) and -brandy. DON'T like: -Bad wine -Bitter (Dark beers) -Stout (ie Guinness, Murphy's) -tequila =-p -sweet alcoholic drinks -cheap cider (been ill on that once too often.) When I'm driving I'll have half a pint of orange juice mixed with half a pint of cola. Delicious=-) Great hangover cure as well. BTW, half a pint= ~0.25 litres, for all you metric types out there. ------------------ "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" "I think so Brain but, if you replace the P with an O, my name would be Oinky, wouldn't it?" |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Captain Spoogy prefers a nice cold Coca-Cola or if that's not availible, some nice cold chocolate milk. Oh yeah.

Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
When I do drink (which is less often than I used to), I usually go for an Icehouse or a hard lemonade-type, lice Doc Otis or Mike's Hard Lemonade. Sometimes Rolling Rock or Woodchuck, but I can't drink any other beer.
Liquor's gotten me in trouble lately, but I still occasionally drink vodka (mixed with just about anything), amaretto, Crown Royal, and tequila (but only in margaritas). I can't do rum anymore: the Last time I drank it, I has an excruciating visit with the Porcelain Goddess... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Oh yeah, and SWEET TEA! (If you've never been to the Southern US, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. That may be my biggest gripe when I travel north or west-- you can't get sweet tea! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon10.gif) Quikngruvn (sober for the time being) ------------------ "That which does not kill you will make you stronger." -- Nietzsche |

milk, at 2% or on ocasion whole.
water, from the tap, not one of these bottled yuppie things. OJ, with the pulp Grapefruit Juice. fresh from the juicer. Coke or Dr Pepper Spatten, any flavour Sam Addams, the summer ale is great for BBQs. Their regular lagger is a good staple. NewCastle, for old times other brews of the moment, or whatever seems to fit at the time Vodka, absolut for mixing or grey goose for drinking. mixed with cranberry most often, especially oceanspray cran-rasberry. Top shelf margs. rocks, salt. Scotch, just every so often. 'old fashionds' ------------------ "...the green, sticky spawn of the stars" (with apologies to H.P.L.) |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Water, water, water. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Occasionally milk, occasionally fruit juice. But frankly I drink lots of water. I hate anything carbonated. Carbonation burns your nose and throat and the sugar/phosphorus content of "soft drinks" actually makes you thirstier. Distilled liquors are even worse than carbonated 'beers', though it's the alchohol rather than the carbonation that burns your throat http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif -- and I don't think those do much for your thirst either. Besides, how can you concentrate on managing your empire if you're getting intoxicated? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
It's funny, I'm not against alchohol 'on principle' as it were. I just find almost any alchoholic drink revolting. About the only thing alchoholic that I can stand are light, sweet wines. NOT champagne, carbonation again... [This message has been edited by Baron Munchausen (edited 20 July 2001).] |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
I too drinks lots of water. However, I do love a good carbonated beverage on occasion. Not that domestic (US) swill crap, but the good stuff. Sam Adams, Corona, pretty much anything from Germany, and various other micro-brews.
Then, there is gin and vodka. Mmmmm, vodka, arrhahghghg (said in Homer Simpson gargle). |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
I gave up on hard stuff awhile ago..after about 30 It seemed that the ol body just couldnt take the ritual visit to the porcelain gods after one too many...
These days I like an very occasional pacific northwest beer, like for example Red Hook. |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Milk. Two litres of milk a day, straight from the neighbour's cow. Ok, I boil it first, it isn't straight from the cow. This is down from 4 litres a day when I was 16. Mom threatened to kick me out of the house, but now credits my height to the vast amount of milk consumed.
Then, in the evening, Gin and Tonic. Bombay Sapphire. After all, tonic has quinine in it and helps prevent malaria, which is very important :-) |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
I drink at least a gallon of water a day, if not more. Seeing as I live in the desert, and I dehydrate easily, that's a good thing. I don't like anything carbonated, so I stay away form that kind of stuff.
As for alcohol, its just not my thing anymore. I’m wholly unpleasant when inebriated, so that is a state I try to avoid. I’m not a fan of beer cause its carbonated, or the hard stuff cause it (to quote Homer Simpson) tastes like burning. In my period of experimentation, I found I could drink anything if it was mixed with chocolate milk. My favorite poison then was Wild Turkey, and I dubbed the drink ‘Cow Tipper’. I found that combination most pleasing. Now that I’m actually of age, the thrill of it all is lost. I just don’t do it anymore, save the occasional bottle of wine with my girl. |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
I go through about a gallon of tap water per day, chilled in pLastic jugs in the refrigerator. Some Diet Coke, mainly when I need caffein. When I eat out, various root beers, ginger ale, Mountain Dew (when I really need caffein), or Hawaiian Punch.
I only drink alcohol socially, and being such a hermit, I haven't had any since '93. I prefer red wine to white, sweet to dry. I like vodka screwdrivers, rum and coke, sloe gin fizz, and sangria. I don't like beer, and haven't drank it since I was a college freshman. ------------------ Cap'n Q The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all of its contents. Weel I guess I'll post here too.....
I like sweet tea when I am working. When I take of the demons I like Texas tea (this is like a long Island tea but with teqiula.) I like Bud Ice, Sol, and a beer from china. When I want a desert, I like something chocalate and a Irish coffee. |

Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Non-alcohoic:
-water (tap water kept in the fridge) -Seagrams Ginger Ale, the best ginger ale ever made. I love this stuff. -Surge (rarely) -Orange and cranberry juice, whenever I'm thirsty, don't have any cold water ready, and don't want to waste a precious can of Seagrams. Alcoholic: -I LOVE white wine. Especially Johannesburg Reisling and Fume Blanc. -If I go to a party (rare), I'll have whatever beer is available (nobody ever has wine). I only drink beer to loosen up so I can mingle and dance with hot females. If there aren't any, I won't drink. Well, in the future at least. I had 6 cans of beer at my High School graduation in June and did NOT feel good the next day. |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Anything and everything! (excluding things like toilet water and sewage)
But if I had to choose I would probably say my favorite drink of all would be...... Gravy! MMMMmmmmmmm..... Graaaaavvvvvyyyyyy. [This message has been edited by ZeroAdunn (edited 22 July 2001).] |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
I've never developed a taste for alcohol (I think I learned to hate alcohol from when my mother would give me whiskey and honey when I had breathing problems as a child) so I always drink non-alcoholic beverages.
I drink way to much caffeinated pop at work, mostly generic diet, just to stay awake. Doesn't taste too great, but it's better than nothing when the brain is trying to shut down at about two in the afternoon. At home, mostly water and milk, sports drinks and some pop. When the temp passes 110 F, it doesn't matter as long as it's cold and wet. |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Hrmmm. Water, various juices, fruit punch, teas, colas, 'ades, and sometimes milk. Nothing alcoholic, 'tho.
------------------ -- The thing that goes bump in the night |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Hey Noble...I thought the idea was that the number of hot females at a party was directly proportional to the number of beers drunk...so the only way there would not be any hot females at a party would be either you ran out of beer or all the females left http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
Anyways..number #1 drink for me is the sweet tea...southern style. I agree these people up north have no clue on what good tea is. If that isn't available...I guess it has to be Pepsi, and not the lead free stuff either. My dad would never drink water, it was a quart of corn whiskey a day or coffee. He would say if a nail could rust in a cup of water, just think what it's doing to your stomach...never said he was too bright but he did live to almost 80 yo. Sabre21 |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Well being Australian I drink lots of Australian beers like Tooheys Extra Dry and Crown Lager. (Fosters is 'Export' quality, we don't touch the stuff here).
On a recent trip to Bali I drank lots of the local brew, an exceptional pilsener called Bintang. At $1AUD the price was damn excellent (thats about $0.50USD) too. If I'm up for a big night a drink lots of Scotch (mixed with dry ginger ale) and Russians (Vodka + Kahlua with either Coke or milk). The Russians will screw with my brain but the scotch I'll drink til 4am and still be fine (although I will wake up really drunk the next afternoon). If I'm coming back from overseas I'll get a litre of better scotch (21 years Chivas or Johnny Walker Blue) and I'll drink that at home with ice. At work I'll drink the boss's prefered choice of VB (cause he fills up the fridge with em). VB is probabaly the Australian baseline beer. So there's my brief summary of what I drink. Cheers, Askan |

I have found no other reason to drink alcohol than to get drunk, which I just don't like to do anymore... interesting reading of all the drinking choices...... couple questions/comments 1) Is sweet tea the same thing as Ice Tea ?? 2) hmmmm...SEIV players not big drinkers a correlation between the two?? 3) apprarently Tequila is the only alcholic beverage that DOES NOT cause depression when intoxicated....being made from Guava plant (I think that's the right plant) gives it some special property..... 4) all the water drinkers seem to be "tap water" drinkers as oppossed to "bottle water" drinkers....I am surprised! all I see everywhere now is bottled water, bottled water blah blah (and such a ripoff to boot...) |

Speaking of water. In my part of the world, we use ground water with a super high iron content. You know, the stuff that turns your white things yellow.
Doesn't taste all that bad, except for the small stuff floating at the bottom of the cup. I recommend that no one drink that. When you fill up a pool, it looks like a big cup of coffee. Man the water beatles sure love that though. They too taste like ****. Water softeners a great, but cost a ton to operate. Our water might be hard, but at least its not surface water like what Portland has to drink. Ha ha. |

re: crap in the water:
Give anyone pure H20, and I'd bet they would say it tastes odd. I can't stand the various "mineral water" stuff myself, leaves a nasty aftertaste. But the taste of water is mostly what gets into it, I think, plus what you're used to. Ex: I lived in a dorm in LA for a while. Water tasted like processed vomit for a while, then it was fine. Move back, and the water at home tasted funky for a whille. Phoenix-D |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Gotta go with Puke's thoughts. If it looks ok in Canda or the States, drink it and toughen your system up. Now, I live in Kenya and when ever I go back to Canada, I start drinking the water and get constipated. The is nothing in the water to keep my insides moving things through. Tap water in North America is (some rural areas excepted) pretty damn good and the bottled kind a waste of time.
Come to visit me and the Nairobi city water supply is going to keep you in the toilet for the first couple of weeks. :-) After that, you will be ok. |
Re: Time for another touchy- feely get-to-know-you thread.
Of the various places I've lived here in Pennsylvania, there was only one apartment that I couldn't drink the tap water. It had such a chalky aftertaste that drinking it actually made you more thirsty. I think it was endemic to the neighborhood; I couldn't drink the lemon-lime flavored soda pop at the local McDonalds, either, because the flavoring was too light to cover the taste of the water it was mixed with.

Going out on a Friday night and drinking alot is called "getting pissed". My boss is what you call a "pisshead" or a "pisspot" in that he has a beer or two at almost every oppurtunity. hehe Just another Anglo term that is TOTALLY OPPOSITE to it's meaning in America -
If someone was to say "Want me to knock you up?" to a Brit they might say "yes, at 8am sharp, please." Say this to an american woman and you have a distinct chance of entering new realms of pain. Ask "You want to get pissed?" to an American and they would look at you and ask "What is going to make me angry??" |

I have no idea why, but it may actually be related to the whole "drinking age" thing. We're not taught at an early age to drink responsibly; in fact, if we try to drink alcohol before we're 21, it tends to turn into a "how much can I drink before I either pass out or puke everything back up?" Which leads to all sorts of other problems, of course. And it probably also goes back to the fact that the USA was founded by Puritans, who certainly were against alcohol, not to mention that bit in the early 20th century when alcohol was completely forbidden here. Oh, and probably the other factor is that most of us are "old farts" (i.e., over 30, like me) who just don't have the energy to go out drinking every night the way we did in college. |

Is sweet tea anything like Lipton BRISK iced tea? I might have had it once or twice before... I am from Ohio which borders on Kentucky which is sort of a southern state http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
BTW, I like root beer and cream soda... my brother can't stand it... and it was only recently that I discovered what cream soda was flavored like... are you ready for it? ... It's VANILLA flavored soda! |

This is one old thread...
Sweet Tea is (IIRC) tea that has a lot of sugar in it. I don't think that it is anything like Lipton BRISK iced tea. |
