Weird UI bug
All of a sudden, control key stopped working. I cant select multiple commanders with it, or store orders on number keys like Ctrl + 1, Ctrl + 2 etc.
On my other PC Ctrl keeps working, but for some reason Enter doesnt work after I type my password. I have to click OK manually. Anyone knows, what the hell is happening with my Dominions? )) |
Re: Weird UI bug
You are being attacked by a Keyboard Horror, The Eater of Shortcuts!

Re: Weird UI bug
Also, cannot force a stealthy commander to attack/move by ctrl+clicking a province.

Re: Weird UI bug
Using Windows? Check Windows accessibility settings (called "sticky keys" AFAIR).
|
Re: Weird UI bug
sometimes if you change from fullscreen to windowed and the other way around some shortcuts stop working. only closing the game and reopen works.
|
Re: Weird UI bug
I restarted the game several times. Even restarted my computer, it didnt work. Furthermore, I had a version 1.08 installed on this PC, and it has got bugged too.

Re: Weird UI bug
Sounds like a Windows issue then. Try the sticky keys option (turn them off if they are on). Other than that, I'm afraid there's little that can be done.

Re: Weird UI bug
I loathe that sticky keys thing. Why can't that be in a control panel? Jeez.

Re: Weird UI bug
The best way to avoid sticky keys in Windows is never use the shift key to wake a computer up from sleep or anywhere else, since pressing shift down for more than 10 seconds or so will activate sticky keys or at least ask if you want to do it. I always use ctrl to do such waking up. It's an ingrained habit by now.
You can probably find how to turn them off from someplace inside system properties or wherever in Windows, probably Computer Management screen (r-click on My Comp and choose Manage) but where exactly, that's going to be a pain in the arse to find. I've no idea which parameter it is. |
Re: Weird UI bug
Not to derail the thread, but sometimes when I rename a unit, when I hit enter after typing the new name, instead of exiting out the name field back to the unit, the name field remains and the game changes from full-screen mode to windowed mode.
Only happens occasionally, and it's easy to switch back to full-screen again, so it's only a minor annoyance. Any ideas what's causing it though? WinXP OS. |
Re: Weird UI bug
No idea.

Re: Weird UI bug
Its been a very very long time since I disabled sticky keys, but IIRC once you set them off, you get access to a menu controlling their different settings, including the setting that disables the "shortcut".

Re: Weird UI bug
XP, its located under the accesibility wizard, IIRC.
http://www.microsoft.com/enable/trai...tickykeys.aspx Under Vista, it's located under the Ease of Access Center. |
Re: Weird UI bug
As far as I can tell, its not the sticky keys: I've found them, and they arent enabled. Reinstalled the game today - problem persisted. Must be some other Windows settings.

Re: Weird UI bug
Hrm. I just thought of something: I had a similar problem a long, long time ago with one of my keyboards. Turned out one of my Shift keys was sticking sometimes, after pressing it. So that without realizing it, when I try to press Ctrl-C for example, the comp thought I was pressing Shift-Ctrl-C and wouldn't do the command properly.
Perhaps one of your keys sticking *might* cause this... --That's just a random shot in the dark, though. |
Re: Weird UI bug
Does this weirdness just happen in Dominions or does the Control key not work in other setting?
Ctrl-click to select multiple files in a file manager for example. |
