Retreating Fighters?
I scanned the forums to find the answer to this one, but it might be slightly different than previously addressed issues.
I have a fighter group of about 210 fighters, a mix of rocket designs and beam designs. They're fully supplied and ordinance. They have no orders. When I move them to attack an enemy fleet, they retreat instantly. Oddly, at one point I tried removing 5 random fighters from the group, and then the remaining task force did attack. Any thoughts? |
Re: Retreating Fighters?
might those 5 fighters have a strategy of "don't get hurt"?
|
Re: Retreating Fighters?
I don't believe so, as all of my fighter designs have a strategy of Fighter Attack. How do I change the strategy of a fighter group/fleet?
|
Re: Retreating Fighters?
You could place the fighters into a fleet and give them all the same orders via fleet strategy, however stock strategies sometimes have "break formation" as standard. You need to make a copy of the strategy via the empire options tag and tell "break formation" to be false. Then the fighters will all stick to the one strategy.

Re: Retreating Fighters?
Barronosod, can you attach your savegame here? If you can/do, someone can look at it and tell you straight away what the cause is.
|
Re: Retreating Fighters?
Sounds good to me. How do I attach the game to the post? I assume it's the .gam file?
Thanks all |
Re: Retreating Fighters?
When you post, make sure the checkbox "I want to preview my post and/or attach a file" is checked.
Then you'll get an option to upload a file. I suggest zipping up all of the savegame files, except maybe the .cmb if it is too large (more than 1/2 MB or so) |

Thanks again everyone. The Fighters in question are at -10,1 in the Terebellum system. Again, even when fully supplied/ord. they'll attack single targets, but not the enemy fleet of 44 ships.

Re: Retreating Fighters?
Also, I'm using the latest Unnamed's Upgraded AI with FQM mod. Currently player 7, the Sishril.

Re: Retreating Fighters?
Er...Mod information is sorta nessasary to diagnose.

Well, there you have it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Also FYI, I'm wearing a yellow shirt and pajama pants. I had a great homemade salad and turkey sandwich.
Just FYI |

I couldn't load the save game because I don't have that mod with those races. Barronosod, if you zip and upload the mod directory in the gametypes folder I can take a look. |

Re: Retreating Fighters?
I'm clearly a moron when it comes to this stuff...
When I zip the mod, it comes out to be about 202 meg., which I assume is far too large to upload. Maybe this can be resolved easier. I notice the when I attack w/ just the fighter group, it retreats. If I send it in w/ a cruiser, it attacks. Clearly I'm missing something simple here. Thanks again for all your help. I had Thai curry and Thai soup |
Re: Retreating Fighters?
Did you duplicate the entire MMP?
The only files in your gametype folder should be the ones you have changed yourself. |
Re: Retreating Fighters?
Thai curry, Mmmm Mmmm! Masaman is my favorite.
I would have expected the 'Fighter Attack' strategy to work fine. Have you changed it at all? Maybe try 'Optimal firing range' - that ones worked ok for me in the past. My understanding is for unit groups, each unit uses the strategy set for that design. http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6c4cfa23ea.png To change it you have to select the design in the designs window and hit 'Set Strategy'. http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/6...trategyfe8.png If the fighter group is in a fleet the Task Force Strategies will override the design strategies - they do for ships anyway. You set them in the fleet transfer window by selecting the task force. This is the only way I know of to make a ship or unit use a different strategy than the one set for its design. http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/fc0e2948bd.png Edit: fixed image links |
Re: Retreating Fighters?
Man, I don't know what's happing then. It's happened in 2 sep. games thus far. Ah well, I'll keep trying to figure out the cause.
Also, looks like my gametype is huge due to the empires folder (lots of shipset downloads). Can I simply leave that out of the zip file? Again, I'm new to understanding all of this. |
Re: Retreating Fighters?
Only include the AI files if you've changed them. The default strategies could have something to do with it.
