Forseti (Started)

Ok--folks, as suggested I'm starting a new thread so I can modify as needed from this point on. I'll monitor the old thread just for a few days, but please post HERE from this point forward.

Llama has done his thing (thanks my friend) so please submit your pretenders as soon as possible but no later than next Thursday. Participants are:

R'lyeh: BigAndScary
T'ien Ch'i: IndyPendant
Bandar Log: FAJ
Jotunheim: Cor2
Marignon: Aethyr
Pangaea: Parcelt
Mictlan: vfb
Man: Whollaborg
Ulm: danbo
Agartha: Cerlin
Abysia: Reverend Zombie
Oceania: Ferrosol

As previsouselyu indicated, make sure you have the same mods enabled as the game you're playing in (Preferences->Mod Preferences) although only mods affecting pretender design, such as Conceptual Balance, actually matter
- Go to Game Tools -> Create a pretender god in Dominions
- Go to the savedgames/newlords folder in the dominions directory, and find your pretender file (e.g. mid_pythium_0.2h)
- E-mail the file to: pretenders[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net
- Crucially, you must have the game name "Forseti" in the subject line of your e-mail.

Let the game begin!

Re: Forseti--Accepting Pretenders

I thought I would add a post reminding everyone of the settings we'll have in this game.

The game will use the Conceptual Balance Mod v1.1, for Pretenders and Scales only. It will also use the Worthy Heroes v1.8 mod.

The settings are all standard, except:
--Difficult Research
--Independents Strength 4
--Graphs Off
--Renaming On

The map will be Edi's modified version of Cradle, further modified by me so that all independents have been removed. What this means is that you will *only* be able to recruit units and leaders from a) your own castles, and b) magic sites that allow them; standard provinces will not have any recruitable units in them. In addition, I have added fixed starting positions, to prevent unbalanced random starts (as much as possible, anyways). My reasoning for my choices won't be repeated here, but I should list the changes I made to the map again, for ease of reference:

--The starting provinces are: 76 (Oceania), 78 (R'lyeh), 18, 38, 37, 103, 99, 207, 172, 196, 148, 131.
--All the land nations will be assigned random starts from the above list when the game begins.
--For start 37, provinces 37, 41, and 54 are no longer Waste, 41 becomes a Border Mountain, and 25 becomes a Forest.
--For start 38, provinces 38 and 39 are no longer Waste.
--For start 103, province 93 becomes a Forest as well as Farm, and 94 becomes a Border Mountain.

Now let's play, so you can all fall under the sway of the Divine Order of T'ien-Ch'i! (Heh.)

Re: Forseti--Accepting Pretenders

Thanks Indy, I should have thought to do that.

And as you say, let's play; may the light of Marignon shine on you all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

PM me when all the pretenders are in and I'll start the game. Although I won't be able to start it in any case before Tuesday - I'm just about to go away for a couple of days.

What is Conceptual Balance Mod 3.10?

I wasn't aware anything like that had been released. Is it just CBM1.1 with the spellings for lightweight scale mail and Kokytos changed?

vfb December 30th, 2007 09:16 AM

Re: Forseti--Accepting Pretenders

I hope "Conceptual Balance Mod v3.10" is just a typo.

I emailed my pretender created with the mods attached to IndyPendants post here enabled:

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...595#Post572595

They're labeled 1.1 not 3.10. (CBgods_1.1.dm and CBscales_1.1.dm).

Please let me know if I've screwed up and need to download different mods, thanks!

IndyPendant December 30th, 2007 10:36 AM

Re: Forseti--Accepting Pretenders

Heh. Whoops, yeah a typo. Those portions of the CB mod *1.1* are compatible with Dom3 version *3.10*. Wrong number inserted in the post above. I've corrected it, sorry for the confusion. ; )

I'm getting an error message, for an armor issue when I try to make a god with conceptual balence. Any Ideas?

vfb January 1st, 2008 03:01 AM

Re: Forseti--Accepting Pretenders

The armor error is from trying to load the full CB mod. Only load the mods linked to by this post:

(CBgods_1.1.dm, CBscales_1.1.dm and heroes1_8.dm)

Re: Forseti--Accepting Pretenders

OK--

It looks like the gang's all here. I'll PM Llama and let him know it's OK to get he ball rolling.

The first trun will be set to quick host in 48 hours (although I hope that everyone will get their turns in before then), and then be set to 30 hours.

We'll hold to this schedule until turn 15. At that time I'd prefer a Monday/Wednesday/Saturday schedule, but I will defer to the will of the majority.

Let's have some fun!

Game started! IndyPendant and Aethyr deserve lots of thanks for being super-organised and getting the game together, and also for making it very easy for me to start it.

Hope all's well. Enjoy the game!

A hail and hearty greeting to all the smaller races from the Lands of Jotunheim! May your mead never be warm!

Many thanks to IndyPendent, Aethyr Llamabeast and Lazyperfectionist. I would feel alot better if we heard from LP, its been a while any news about him?

llamabeast January 3rd, 2008 06:18 PM

Yes, I had a brief PM from him yesterday. Said sorry he'd not been around, he got unexpectedly overwhelmed by relatives. So he is okay.

Thanks for the kind words, but Indy deserves all of the credit.

He's invested a lot of time and effort to make modifications and select starting places to help ensure balanced starting positions. Thanks Indy.

Enjoy the game everyone, may the light of Marignon shine on you all!

Don't worry FAJ, because its difficulty 4 they are only armed with flowers. You should send your prophet alone and they will shower him with gifts and candies. You will be greeted as liberators!

Yes Cor2, you know how friendly heavy cavalry are. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
Im glad that we are doing our turns in a timely manner now. Im in another game that has been in the first 10 turns for about 2 weeks >< haha.

I guess i forgot to email my turn file, that warning message is a life saver. I thought I was slowing down the game but then I noticed I am not the last. MAN if your reading this your about to stale.

I had a family celebration for newborn one in another town, but i got back right in time. Now i am waiting the llamaserver to register my sent turn file..

You can also check the game status here, to ensure your turn has been accepted (in case the confirmation email gets lost in a blizzard of spam):

Re: Forseti (Started)

Hmm Had a little set back there. Turn two was hit with brigands causing unrest in my capitol despite my fortune 3. Relly brought down my gold there for a while. We have recoved nicely I think.

IndyPendant January 15th, 2008 11:53 AM

Re: Forseti (Started)

Err, Oceania has staled 4 out of 9 turns, the last 3 turns in a row.

Wouldn't it be time to set him to AI?

FAJ January 15th, 2008 03:03 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

I agree. It is certaintly slowing down the early game.

Whollaborg January 15th, 2008 05:40 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

Perhaps we should give him couple more turns to show up?

vfb January 15th, 2008 07:07 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

I'm with IndyPendant and FAJ. I don't think he's going to show up. If there's a volunteer who can take over, that's great, but otherwise I think setting Oceania to AI is best.

parcelt January 15th, 2008 07:08 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

I noticed the last turn, but if Oceania's been stalling 3 turns in a row I'd say he left already and there is no point in waiting any longer.

Cor2 January 15th, 2008 07:50 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

I vote AI.

Cerlin January 15th, 2008 10:58 PM

AI

Re: Forseti (Started)

With the consensus here, I've gone ahead and sent a PM to llamabeast about this. Here's hoping he sees it in the next hour or so. ; )

Btw, I just recently found out in another game how you can see staling data for these types of games: go to llamabeast's server here, select the game you want to look at, then click "Admin Options" at the bottom, then "Show staling data".

Aethyr January 16th, 2008 03:18 AM

Re: Forseti (Started)

Sorry guys, I had not thought to check for stalling data so early in the game. Thanks Indy for taking the initiative to contact Llama as he is the only one who can retify.

llamabeast January 17th, 2008 10:46 AM

Re: Forseti (Started)

Okay, Oceania is AIed. It was hardly worth it as it turned out, they will be gone in a couple of turns anyway.

IndyPendant January 17th, 2008 07:09 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

Now that we have been playing on the map for a while, does anyone have any comments about the starting positions? Or about the no independents?

Cor2 January 17th, 2008 07:48 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

I chose a poor nation to play with no indies, I knew that going in. I expect that no indies will exacerbate the unbalancedness of the nations, which should be fun. I am enjoying the no indies aspect alot, it changes the gameplay.

As far as the starting locations, I haev no complaints. Actually I am rather pleased with my position, as i would have withany of them.

I'm loving my starting location. Playing without indies has been a little...wierd. I agree with Cor2, it definately changes gameplay--I've got no complaints though.

FAJ January 17th, 2008 10:25 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

I forgot the no indies thing, untill I wanted to create another castle, and my expansion army was stranded in a nice castle position when the rest of my commanders were bogged down in forests several turns away. Having to choose between expanding and making another castle wasn't a choice I wanted to make and I should have planned for it.

I think the fact that there are no indies increases the need for planning ahead and is a good thing. I think this game will favor the prepared (and eat me alive http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif)

vfb January 17th, 2008 10:44 PM

Re: Forseti (Started)

C'tis would have been a great choice for no indies in MA, in retrospect. They don't do well with indy troops anyway, because of miasma. Plus they'd enjoy all the swampland on this map!

Cor2 January 18th, 2008 05:37 AM

Re: Forseti (Started)

That is true, Ctis would have rocked.
I think Marginon and Man would do well too just because of thier diversity of troops.

Aethyr January 18th, 2008 03:09 PM

Re: Forseti - Early Encounter

Greetings Pangaea,

The early encounter with your forces was not intended--at least not on our part. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

We suggest however that your centaurs would find much more hospitable grazing to the south & east. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

The territory north of your exploratory force belongs to The One.
