I wrote a review of Dominions 3 in The Escapist's review section. Maybe if a bunch of people leave comments on it outsiders might get interested and check it out? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

You know how the internet works...

Re: Review

I had actually never heard of the Escapist until someone linked me one of Yahtzee's reviews. They're really entertaining, although not terribly informative.

Your review is good, Dominions is one of those games where it's difficult to convey its complexity.

Re: Review

Great review. I often wonder why, with so many fans here on the forums, more people don't write reviews on Amazon or Metacritic to generate more buzz on Dominions. It would certainly benefit the designers, and indirectly the fans, as more sales means more resources and more chances that Dominions sees further iterations.

Thanks for sharing the link.

I'm a big fan of dominions, but I wouldn't get it a rave review. It has its share of problems and it's pretty niche.

7 or 8 out of 10 isn't bad though.

Re: Review

I have spent more time with Dom III than any other game in the last several years. I think if you consider $/time of entertainment as a good way to measure games, then Dom gets a 10/10 from me.

For example, I have NWN 2 sitting on my shelf and while it is probably a lot of fun, I haven't gotten into it and spend my free time instead trying to learn Dom - 3 months later.

But I admit it does take a special kind of nerd to love Dom

Heheheh, I feel the same way, DonCorazon, about exactly those games. Tho I just started trying out user-made modules for NWN2 and I have been pleasantly surprised! Particularly with the Remastered Pool of Radiance, which was my favoriate old gold box game.

I wrote a review for Dom3, but it was in Hebrew. (And due to the kind of reviews I like, it was also not so well received.)

Re: Review

I have been suffering gaming burnout for the last few years. You know, buy a game, play it a bit then forget about it - nothing really seemed to keep me interested; but Dom3 has changed all that. I don't quite know what it is about this game, yet I find it truly absorbing. I think it’s the ability to tinker with it on so many levels, which is unusual for me because I generally dislike excessive micromanagement.

I have shown it to a couple of my friends trying to drum up a few more sales, yet they seem to get this strange glassed over look on their faces. Not for everyone I concede, but I confess to being one of those special types of nerds DonCorazon speaks of.

I bought NWN2 after Dom3 and quit playing it after a few weeks , not finishing the extension but downloading several modules from the net. Lasting appeal of NWN2 is probably around one hundredth of that of Dominions.

Re: Review

The review I put on Od Studios was quite popular, it was in the top 5 most viewed articles for a couple months. I can't say whether anyone bought the game as a result though.

People ask for some images.

Can anyone link them to the review?

Sorry, no images in my review either. Screenshots aren't this game's strong suit anyway. This is a game for the mind's eye. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I could add images to the review if you think it would be helpful. Do you have any in particular that you think really stand out?

I don't know, some of the more strange/bewildering creatures or maybe a shot of the blood magic tree could spark interest out the the sheer "What the !@#%* is this!??" factor. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I know I would at least check out a game with animal manikins and a spell called "Bind Spine Devil".
