Quagmire

Never used this spell. I wonder what are the possible scenarios in which it may be useful. Someone has an idea?

When your troops have swamp survival (C'tis, Sauromatian androphags, etc), or when the extra encumberance really hurts important commanders and you have swampsurvival (again C'tis, Sauromatian Witch Kings).

I've use this spell in combination w/Grip of Winter while inside a castle. My banefire archers & mages (protected from cold) mowed down the opposing army from C'tis while a coupld of thugs & assorted chaff held the gate.

Very cool suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Quagmire

Yeah my first thought is a storm-defense as well. Slow down the enemy and your own men, which works to your advantage here since they wont run out. Gives you more time to pepper the enemy and the possibility of getting multiple short-range spells attacks (basically the only time they can ever be used reliably).

Would it help against tramplers?

Quagmire is useful for battlefield destroying spells or bunches of mages. Slowing down the enemy while they take hits from spells just means that your troops take less friendly fire.

I was very disappointed to find out that this spell does not go "giggity giggity".

Re: Quagmire

Can you pls explain what you're disappointed about?

The posts here give the spell quite a useful role.

He's disappointed it doesn't go "giggity giggity". I'm guessing it's some pop culture reference that's wasted on me.

It seems to affect Caelian archers but it could just be because they walk forward to shoot.

Re: Quagmire

Yeah, the obvious use is swamp survival or archer support, but there's a couple situations it's quite useful even when you don't have swamp survival and plan on slugging it out in melee. Its an often overlooked spell with a number of applications.

It stacks nicely with numbness (same school) bringing movement down to 1/4th I believe which can buy you a lot of time. Even without numbness it will often pretty much completely negate a lance first strike provided your troops have some armor. It also can be very useful if you plan on trying to route the enemy with fear/starvation - half speed running away makes for much more tasty casualties. It's not gonna let you catch them if you're slower, but if you can it'll give you twice as much chance to beat on them. In some situations it can also tip the balance for encumbrance - if you're fielding chaff vs heavy infantry it's really in your advantage to increase everyone's encumbrance.

Re: Quagmire

So all flying melee units without swamp survival feel the negative effects of the spell while moving (flying) and attacking?

Sombre April 4th, 2010 07:46 PM

Re: Quagmire

Yep. They land to attack after all.

Darn it, now I want Dom3 to go 'giggity' whenever i cast Quagmire. Curse you and your thread necromancy.
