Dom3 Item Forging Reference Project - Updated Feb 18th
I've put together a way to quickly determine which items a mage can forge based on his magic paths.
--> Online version HERE! <-- --> Included in Snoddasmannen's searchable database HERE! <-- *** Or... Excel version here! Open Office version here! CSV version here! PDF version here! ...but be sure to re-download occasionally to stay current! ***Snoddasmannen has graciously uploaded the Vanilla Forging Reference to his online searchable database! -------------- Currently available Forging References: Vanilla CBM 1.3 CBM 1.4 I'd very much like this to become a "repository" of mod-specific forging references. If you're a modder and would like to create your own, I'll be happy to give you editing privileges. You'll need a (free) gmail account. Just PM me your gmail address. -------------- The "Single Path" pages look like this: http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/4...nglefd4.th.jpghttp://img146.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif Under each of the 8 magic paths, all the "single path" items are listed, grouped by the magic-level needed to forge them, and color-coded to indicate the needed Construction level (blue = Const0...red = Const8). Items that boost magic paths are italicized. The "Dual Path" pages look like this: http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1157/dualhb1.th.jpg It's a consolidated matrix that groups all similar "dual path" items together, includes the path requirements, and follows the same color convention as before. It answers the following questions very easily: 1) What items can I forge at Construction level X? 2) What can *insert name of newly encountered mage* forge? 3) If I empower/boost *insert name of mage*, what new items will be available? All the data was mined from the Dom3 DB, produced by Edi. Enjoy. cleveland -------------- EDIT1 (1/27/08, 6pm): -Uploaded file to 2shared EDIT2 (1/28/08, 9am): -Version 2008.01.28 posted (only minor revisions, though) --2008.01.28 changelog ---"Armor of Twisting Thorns" properly italicized ---Credit for Dom3 DB taken from Ed, given to Edi ---Dual-Path FR now opens in proper orientation -Removed redundant link to 2shared hosted file EDIT3 (2/1/08, 3pm): -Version 2008.02.01 posted (again, only very minor revisions) --2008.02.01 changelog ---"Blood Stone" properly italicized ---"Skull of Fire" properly italicized EDIT4 (2/16/08, 11am): -Forging reference for Conceptual Balance Mod 1.21 now included -No changes to the vanilla forging reference EDIT5 (8/7/08, 3pm): -Online version officially posted -Outsiders invited to collaborate -Changed title to more pretentious "project" EDIT6 (8/7/08, 6pm) -CSV version made available - now you can open it in your own spreadsheet! -PDF version made available - if that's your thing! -Attached PDF retired to that big server archive in the sky EDIT7 (8/7/08, 7pm) -XLS (Microsoft excel) version available -ODS (open office) version available EDIT8 (10/4/08, 1:30pm) -Updated CBM references to CBM 1.3 -Revised formatting: Single references now optimized for wide-screen viewing & subsections alphabetized -NOTE: If you use the online version, you MUST update your bookmarks! Works for me. Thanks Cleveland - awesome work!

Thank you cleveland, it's very nice!

Alzip appears to have been the problem D: I was able to open the original zips hosted on the forums with window's program.

very nice work cleveland - not sure why the first chart is on it's side? - but that's a minor thing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

New version 2008.01.28 available
I've uploaded a new version 2008.01.28, which has some very minor revisions based on feedback. It's not really necessary to "upgrade"...
2008.01.28 changelog ---"Armor of Twisting Thorns" properly italicized ---Credit for Dom3 DB taken from Ed, given to Edi ---Dual-Path FR now opens in proper orientation I also removed the link to the 2shared hosted file; since the forum link is working properly, 2shared is unnecessary. Thanks for all the comments. The real credit belongs to Edi for making the Dom3 DB, and to the Devs for delaying the new patch so long that I was bored enough to make this thing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Seriously though, this is a great game and I'm glad I can contribute to this great community. cleveland |
Re: New version 2008.01.28 available
It looks great! I think its going to save me a LOT of time! Not to mention reduce wear on the manual...
|
Re: New version 2008.01.28 available
Nice. Thanks!

Re: New version 2008.01.28 available
Thanks for the nod. Looks like a damned useful reference. The DB is a tad harsh on the system if you need to fire it up for some trivial info. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
|
Re: New version 2008.01.28 available
And don't forget that it all comes from a newbie. Great job cleveland.

Re: Dom3 Item Forging Reference
Updated to version 2008.02.01. Like the last "update," only very minor inconsistencies were corrected, so you really shouldn't have to re-download unless you're a perfectionist. Unless there's something I'm completely missing, I expect this will be the final finished product.
2008.02.01 changelog -"Blood Stone" properly italicized -"Skull of Fire" properly italicized Cheers, cleveland p.s. @ DryaUnda: Ignore the 2shared link! It's outdated and unnecessary. Download the attachment to the 1st post. |
Re: Dom3 Item Forging Reference
very useful, and very nice colors.

Thanks Cleveland. This guide is very, very useful for a new player.

Conceptual Balance Mod FR now available
Given the perenial popularity of the Conceptual Balance Mod, I put together a CBM specific forging reference. It is included in the attachment in the first post. It is accurate for CBM 1.21. No changes have been made to the Vanilla Dom3 forging reference, so if you don't use CBM, there's no need to download.

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a new revision of the Forging Reference.
While it includes corrections to a few errors, I'm excited to announce that this revision will be available through GoogleDocs, Google's online office software suite. The rationale is that I'd like to extend the Dom3FR beyond the 2 flavors currently availble, namely Vanilla and Conceptual Balance. GoogleDocs will allow me to grant editing privileges to other modders/community members wishing to create References specific to the countless other outstanding mods available that I don't personally use. Non-modders will NOT need any sort of Google account to access the References; they'll be viewable just like any webpage. Here's a sneak preview. Before it goes to the final press, I'm curious to know what the community thinks of this "collaborative project" approach, and if anyone's interested in contributing...? Cheers, cleveland |

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
Nice. There's an easy import for that? Somebody get Edi to do the same with his Dom3 DB... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
|
Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
Sorry, Ich, but not going to happen. Anyone who likes can make a copy of the DB and modify it as they wish to make a CBM version or such, but I'm not going to put it on something like Google docs or whatever else there is.

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
Seems like it'd be great but it's all... erm, blurry.

Quick question: if you increase the zoom of your browser, does it get any better, or just make the blurs larger? |
Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
Blurry both when zoomed, and printed.

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
I think Renojustin might be referring to the GoogleDocs version I "sneak previewed" in a recent post:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...sKdolQ_rkM5xIg My browser is displaying it OK, though the italicized entries are admittedly more difficult to read. I think that if I up the font size, it may fix the problem, though that will require some reformatting, so probably not until later this evening. |
Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
Thanks for these references Cleveland.

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference

this is very neat. Good work!!! and thanks

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
No problem. Actually you've reminded of something I've been meaning to do for quite a while.
I'd like to officially announce that the Dominions 3 Forging Reference is now totally online (direct link is in my sig). Further, I'd like to officially invite all modders to create their own mod-specific references for inclusion in the project. My hope is to create a central "hub" where forging references for any mod can be accessed by the community. If you're a modder (or mod enthusiast) and would like to add to the project, just create a (free) gmail account & PM me your gmail address. GoogleDocs is very straightforward, and you can use what I've posted as a template. Cheers, cleveland |
Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
You could add forging costs in gems [or even online calculator where you put forge bonus], of course you have it in manual, but it may get confusing, especially with dual path items.

Re: Dom3 Item Forging Reference Project
Send me your gmail address and make it so!
And that info we were discussing! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
it'd be totally awesome if everything linked to a descrip of the item too. but maybe that's just too much.

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
My gmail address is confidential http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif And for that thing you need - I need to verify 1-2 things to be sure I don't give you wrong thing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Dom3 (& CBM) Item Forging Reference
Hey just a little thing - in the Vanilla Single page, Earth 5 and Earth 6 are just listed as "5" and "6" rather than E5 and E6. Otherwise, it's beautiful. I want to print it as a poster. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Sweet Mary!
I just figured out how to publish the spreadsheets as Comma-Separated-Values (CSV) files! In other words, everyone can download the raw data and open it in their own spreadsheet-manipulating-software! Try it out! Egads! .xls! .ods! |
Re: Dom3 Item Forging Reference Project
Methinks you are a geek, Cleveland. But thanks, this looks handy.

Updated October 4th!
In spite of my ongoing hiatus from Dom3, I decided to kick back today and play a quick SP game.
To my chagrin, I found that my CBM Forging References were woefully out of date. Ergo, I present the most recent iteration of the Dom3 Forging References. The CBM References are now fully compliant with CBM 1.3, and the format has been updated: subsections have been alphabetized & the Single references have been optimized for wide-screen viewing. Click HERE to access the latest online version! Please note that if you use the online version, you MUST update your bookmarks. See the 1st post for a full description & the Excel, Open Office, etc versions. Feedback/complaints/death threats are, as always, encouraged. Cheers, cleveland |
