OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Thanks Bearclaw. I just sent it to my dad who lives about three hours away and is almost 70. I guess we'll be making "one last adventure" to the movie theater this summer.
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Is Harrison Ford gonna be in it?
I could check out the trailer... but my internet would choke! |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I dunno...Can't really get wether the movie is going to be good out of that.
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Great, they should name this movie Indiana Geriatric Jones, the quest for the fountain of youth.
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
A little late to the party with that jab, Atrocities. They've been making that joke since "Last Crusade".
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
From the looks of the trailer, Harrison Ford doesn't look all that much worse for wear than in Last Crusade. I guess that's a good thing about an already roughed up character like Indiana Jones.
Looks good to me. Me and my kids will be in line May 22 regardless. |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
The orignal working title on imdb(which was a joke)
Indiana Jones and the Ravages of Time |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
now if you all want to watch a pretty good movie, i recommend The Man from Earth

I'm not too put out that Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Indy. In fact, I'd probably be quite annoyed if they cast anyone but Harrison in the role. He may be old, but he's still the only Indiana Jones. |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I am like everyone else, I will go see it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I've no problem with the casting, even Sean Connery as his father, but the last Indy movie (with Ford & Connery) I found to be h o r r e n d o u s . . . (not because of the main actors, but because of the plot, script, action choreography... yeesh).
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
i hear Sean Connery won't be in this movie.
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
He will not be in this movie

Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I saw teh trailer Saturday, and even though Harrison Ford looks much the worse for wear, I'll be in line on May 22nd. I've been waiting a long time. I just hope it's worth the wait. But if HF is in his 60's now, they need to get out of pre-WWII. The villainous (?) looks like she might be Russian. Anyone have any ideas of what era we're looking at?
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
It's set in the early 1950s. The Russians are the bad guys. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

The one I meant was "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", which I thought was far worse. ... But there were 5-6 years between me seeing those IIRC, and I've not seen either since about the time they came out, so maybe they both are horrendous. I see the IMDB rating for Temple o' Doom is actually lower, but if Last Crusade gets an 8 there... er, clearly it's not a reflection of my tastes. |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
You might want to refresh your memory on Temple. Sure it has a few moments of goodness - going for the revolver like in the first movie and a few others, but the female lead (Mrs. Spielberg) is irritating beyond all belief. I mean they're going after glowing potatoes.

Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Ok, thanks, though I think comparing two horrid movies for worstness is going to be low on my multi-page to-do-eventually list.
I do remember now that I don't remember much about Temple of Doom except it started with a fist fight with really loud punch sound effects, the whip/sword/gun fight scene reprise you mentioned, the unconvincing female lead, and then a totally silly/unbelievable/sense&physics-defying scene apparently shot on an amusement park "mine ride". I don't remember the glowing potatoes or what the point was, so maybe I am suffering amnesia from bad movie shock. Of Last Crusade, I remember not enjoying Connery's character, a (sub?)plot about going (back in time?) to try to assassinate Hitler, and a badly-choreographed action scene which made little or no sense with a tank in the desert, another horrible unbelievable/pointless religious magic theme worse than in Raiders, and the absence of anything I remember actually enjoying. I did actually enjoy Raiders a lot, though... really. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I hated temple of Doom, but enjoyed Last Crusade. As long as they kept with the Christian mythology, they were ok. The Hindu or whatever religion it was in TOD just didn't do anything for me.

Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
In order of Preference:
Last Crusade Lost Ark Temple of Doom |

I think you are trolling, GuyOfDoom!

Are you thinking of the game Command & Conquer: Red Alert? |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
There is an "encounter" with Hitler in the Last Crusade, but he's fairly removed from the plot otherwise.
As for my list of preference the Last Crusade is honestly my favorite, with Temple of Doom being the least. All of them have a good sense of entertainment about them though. |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Well cool, I learned that I have several incomplete and broken memories about those two films, and that someone actually likes Last Crusade better than Raiders.
I wasn't sure it was time travel, but that's how I remembered it, like the motif had been taken from the other "if you could assassinate Hitler, would you??????" stories which are mostly time-travel stories. Isn't it that Indy's dad contemplates killing Hitler but has doubts and then misses the chance due to delaying and a (poorly choreographed) adventure/fight? Maybe I'm misremembering that too. |

Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Ok, I just watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed two nights later by The Temple of Doom, and feel called to post to this thread. I still have not re-watched The Lost Crusade, and I have not seen the 2008 Indiana Jones film.
I had only seen The Temple of Doom in the theatre once when it came out and not again until last night. It is enormously, almost unfathomably worse that Raiders, IMO. Holy freakin' heck, it makes almost no sense, and is mostly horribly choreographed, timed, etc. What an awful thing. Well, it has a few moments, but I mean, it'd be a forgettable silly B movie except it is supposed to be a good film, no? Harrison Ford, Raiders being really well done in most ways... and then, ya, glowing potatoes... plbbbttt! |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I wholly concur with PvK on this one!
|
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
I agree. temple of doom was the worst collaboration between Spielberg and Lucas. Maybe it's because they stepped away from the Judea-Christian mythos for this movie, or it was supposed to be a prequel to Raiders. Either way, it was a very disappointing movie which i have tried not to watch too many times.
I loved The Last Crusade. I still don't know what Speilberg and Lucas were thinking with their 4th Jones movie. Aliens? Hey, I'm a big CE3K fan, but these weren't cute little aliens in this movie. Still, it was much better than Temple of Doom, and as far as the action sequences, just as good as Raiders. I thought I heard that they were going to try to make a 5th movie. Let's hope they stick to the Christian ideology. But in this day and time, they'll probably either stay away from religious artifacts altogether, or try something something worse than aliens. |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
My order of indy movies (from best to worst):
1. The Last Crusade 2. Raider of the Lost Ark 3. The Kindgom of the Crystal Skull (i think it captured the indy spirit, even if dealing with aliens instead of the normal judeo-christian themes) and waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy below: 4. The Temple of Doom I hope that if they make a 5th movie they do something around the Atlantis mytho, i remember fondly of playing that old lucasarts adventure of indiana jones and the city of atlantis, and i think it was the computer game most alike the indy spirit... |
Re: OT: Indiana Jones Trailer!
Maybe they should open up the vault of Dark Horse comics for their next story idea. They had a I.J. storyline concerning Atlantis. they had quite a few comic book stories that probably could be made into movies. But as in the past, you got to have a period of time when George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and John Williams are all free to make the next one. Hope it's soon. None of them are getting younger.
