Star Wars vs Star Trek
Here is a movie near and dear to our hearts.
Movie Preview Would you fight along side the Star Wars geeks or along side the Star Trek geeks? |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
This movie is why no one wants to be a fan boy.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I didn't watch the whole thing. But I don't think that even in my wildest geek/nerd phase, I was ever like that.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Well, I'm glad to see hollywood treating geekdom with the same respect and consideration they do everything else.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Well I like both equally, not that I'm a fanboy. If it was Star Wars or Star Trek vs Firefly though I'd be behind them. I don't get on with Joss.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I like Star Trek best, but mostly because it is among the first sci-fi fiction I can remember reading - Back far enough I'm not sure what I read first.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Voted for both because I could. But I would be on the Star Wars side, definitely.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Being older than most of you, I was a trekkie first. But over the years, I've come to appreciate Star Wars a whole lot more than Star Trek. So call me a Star Warrior, or whatever they call SW fans nowadays.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Warsies, I think.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I'm old enough to have watched the original Star Trek series as it first ran, so I'm a certified trekkie too.
But, I have to admit to being and equally big Star Wars fan. I remember waiting in line forever to see it when it first came out too. |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I voted Star Wars but I grew up watching reruns of the original Star Trek series probably about the same time Star Wars came out. I like the action scenes in Star Wars much more. I really can't totally relate to the geeks in the funny movie preview. They were way geeky. (reminds me to dust off my action SW action figures). We all have a little geekiness (made up that word) in us, but to different levels. Yes I have a few SW action figures and trading cards and what not. My son got lucky since me and ny wife both like SW. He's got the motherload of all SW toys. lol.

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
oh, Hmmmm.... to choose....
I don't hate ST at all. I quite enjoy it but I definetly rank it FAR below Star Wars. |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
B5 all the way.
Leaky armor rules. |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
...You're obsessed with leaky armor, aren't you?
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
No, its just the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Shields are great for saving money (and not having to replace your ship models for every episode), but when a ship gets hit, I wanna see ragged burning holes! |

What exactly was the reason you had to open Pandora's Box http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
...It's shiney.
You need a different reason? |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Looks like we have more Trekkie's around here.
|
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I wish more ST and SW fans could get along. There isn't that much quality SciFi out there to be so nit-picky.
Personally, I like both, but I lean towards Trek. The biggest thing Trek has going for it is the sheer volume of material. That's also unfortunately it's biggest downfall. Star Wars has 12 hours. It's definetly more consistant that Trek from beginning to end, but as good as it is you can only watch it so many times before it gets old. Trek on the other hand has enough episodes to run 24hrs a day for weeks. At it's best; the last couple years of TNG, the first couple seasons of TOS, every other movie, and pretty much every episode of DS9, Trek is great entertainment. The plots are engrossing, stories are action packed, the effects well done, and the characters deep and engaging. At it's worst; the last season of TOS, the first couple years of TNG, every other movie, most of Voyager and nearly all of Enterprise, it's borderline unwatchable. I do like Star Wars, but I could easily come up with 40 episodes of Trek that are better than almost any of it. With the possible exception of The Empire Strikes Back, which I would rank as one of the best all time movies ever, SciFi or otherwise. |

I like 'em both, but B5 was better than either http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I liked B5 when it was originally on, i'd prepare my favourite food and something to drink while I watched. Having seen the whole thing however I don't think it has much of a replay value. The hints are obvious once you know the whole plot and I can't help but see the sets as shoddy. I always preferred the space battles myself and I still have some episodes on tape I find when I'm going through my piles. I hired thirdspace some time ago because I like Cthulhu stuff but it was very dissapointing.
In fact some time ago I found all the space battles on youtube. Not much point bothering with the episodes after that. oh and I always supported the Shadows. |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I support neither.

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Personally, I always had a soft spot for the Centauri !

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
Ok, I voted for Star Wars (But I am a huge Star Trek Fan too!)
One thing I loved about Star Wars is that the wolds look lived in, Star Trek has always been too Clean, even when they come back to earth it's pristine, what's wrong with that picture. Star Trek had always dealt with 'Ideals' and I'm not saying that's totally wrong, just that an ounce of realism goes a long way. Another note, the Quantity vs Quality could (and probably will) be argued forever. The only thing Quantity does is give you more to remember and thus overshadows the Quality. OT: Lord of the Rings is a pristine example of Quality over Quantity. 6 Star Wars Films, 1 Great (Empire Strikes back) 2 Good (a new Hope and Return of the Jedi) and 3 'overabundant' so abundant in SFX that the FX stole from the movie. (imho) Star Trek is a pristine example of 'Franchise gone wild' TOS was their finest hours, the Actors held up the show, TNG, DS9, Voyager, the Movies, all were second class Star Trek with ONE exception... The Wrath of Khan Movie, it was the single crowning glory to all the Star Trek Movies. But,.. they managed to make it have less meaning when they followed it with The Search For Spock. (imho) Spock's death showed his most human side and as much as I like him it was a Wrong Decision to bring him back to life. It somehow made his death meaninless.. "oooh the Star Trek main cast can even cheat death, they are gods, oooh" Anyways, to end this rant, Star Trek has 'More' bad than good, but it came first, so anything after it will always be compared to it. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek
I tried to re-watch Bab5. Man that show is brutal. Mind you I know how crappy it becomes..... No reply value at all.
