Loemendor PBEM (Game started)

Hi people and welcome! This is actually the second try by me to get this PBEM rolling as the old one died out when I lost my internet connection in a move. However, this time I hope to get the help from Llamabeast (who offered his help last time as well, thank you!). Oh well, here is the game settings:

The map we will be playing is a modified version of Loemendor by Kaljamaha. The modification is done by me with kind permission from Kaljamaha. The reason is that I want us to play with fixed starting positions and nations. Hopefully it will be a interesting and thematic experience for everyone involved in this PBEM.
I tried to balance the map the best I could without it becoming uninteresting.

The nations I wish you to fill are:
* Pangaea (Jazzepi)
* Ermor (DryaUnda)
* Chelms (Sawyer)
* Marignon (Hadrian_II)
* Utgård (Semigall)
* R'lyeh (vfb)
* T'ien Ch'i (Dedas)
* C'tis (Tequilich)
* Ulm (Valerius)

I will take the nation that is left (this means that the first 8 that answer will get to play).

Hosting will occur every 24h. This may change to 48h eventually.

---

Some tips to the players:
In my modification the terrain is now much important to the specific nations than in the vanilla version. Some examples:

*C'tis has both desert/waste (for its waste survival units) and swamp (for its swamp survival units) close by for added protection.

*Utgård quickly needs to gain some food for its troops as they start in snow (waste). This is very possible if the player examine the map closely for simple expansion ways.

*Marignon should take advantage of its sea faring capability as they start by the coast.

And a lot more that I will let you find out yourself.

---

No rules will change once the game has started.
Any suggestions before start of game are appreciated.

Everyone with at least 5 games under their belt are welcome to join.

Ulm, please.

Dedas March 2nd, 2008 03:54 PM

Re: Loemendor PBEM: Scenario based mayhem!

@Tequilich
Not to scare you off or anything, but this game is not a newbie game, meaning things will get rough pretty quick. Also, C'tis is not the easiest nation to play on this map as you are pretty much stranded in wasteland and swamp. I'm not saying that they are worse off than others, as their position will also work to their advantage, but you really need to use their special abilities to the maximum. Coming to mind is summon undead and their excellent priests. Did I mention your neighbor is the "nice and friendly" Ermor? You have been warned. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

OK, OK!!!!!!!

Pangaea.

Time for REVENGE!!!

Tequilich March 2nd, 2008 04:31 PM

Re: Loemendor PBEM: Scenario based mayhem!

I may not be an expert but ive held my own in a few games... thanks for the warning but ill still choice Ctis please.

Banefire, chariots, and Tomb kings FTW!

and wither bones if Ermor wants to get frisky.

Did i say that marignons start position is quite strange, there are no resources :/ but too much money

Ok Hadrian, will look into that.

Damn, only now i noticed this.

Just wanted to say, that i don't have any completed games 'uder belt', i'm pretty much beginner, though i have played many games against AI and i am currently also playing one other game with human players.

But i hope that's ok http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Re: Loemendor PBEM: Scenario based mayhem!

Well, this is no easy map. Utgård for example, desperately needs gold, resources and supplies and thus has to expand very aggressively. Imagine hungry giants coming down from the mountains to plunder and pillage for food and for gold.

As you might have noticed I've done this map conversion in the spirit of thematic game play, meaning balance isn't perfect, although it's not bad either. I would like to think of it as somewhere in between; every nation has its chance on winning if played right. Some just have fewer options in the beginning, which adds to the pace and character of the nations.

Sorry, but Bogarus didn't exist when I first modified the map, and I like the thematic "Well of Urd" in the start province. Maybe I switch Utgård for them someday (or you can do it yourself).

Dedas, for the benefit of those of us who have played plenty of MP games, but none on Llamaserver, would you kindly explain how we address emails and what to put in subject line, etc?

Thanks

Nice changes, now i can actually build units in my capital http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

I hope it is no bad sign, that on my first test game, bogus conquered my capital on turn 10 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Dedas March 3rd, 2008 03:32 PM

Re: Loemendor PBEM: Scenario based mayhem!

A tip to you Hadrian:
Across the sea your capitol is also linked to a nice forest. That means you have to good resource provinces initially. Just beware of the natives on that foreign soil. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Dedas March 3rd, 2008 03:36 PM

Re: Loemendor PBEM: Scenario based mayhem!

A tip to everyone:
Scattered around the map are a handful sites of high magical power; ruins, strange houses in the swamp, abandoned graves etc. Be sure to look there for the otherwise scarce (in LA) magic sites.

Dedas March 4th, 2008 05:15 PM

Game starting

Ok, all pretenders uploaded. The game will commence as soon as Llamabeast sends out the turns. Three things to remember:

* 24h auto host. So be quick or be stalled. If you can't make it tell in advance and I will delay the game a day or two.

* Sheap's diplomacy "rules" are in effect - read them if you haven't! If you don't agree with them, now is the time to say it.

* If you believe perfect balance is the essence of fun you have joined the wrong game (and bought the wrong one as well.)

Good luck everyone! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I think we were waiting for the new patch. Maybe? And it's here!

So, patch away, everyone! Please don't forget to leave a copy of the 3.14 dominions around, especially if you're in any other MP games.

Dedas March 6th, 2008 06:53 PM

Just did (with a thorn spear) and he said he is looking into it ASAP. That means you all should expect to do your turns very, very soon.

Re: Game starting

Ouch. Sorry I haven't started this yet guys, I can't seem to get round to everything. Will try to do it tomorrow afternoon - apologies for the delay.

Please try to find a replacement for Pangaea before the game starts.

Thanks.

Do you mean that you can't play?

jimkehn March 8th, 2008 02:46 AM

Yes. I have a posted a new thread asking for a sub, also.

My apologies to everyone for the delay.

Re: Game starting

If you won't be able to play, then it would be best to re-open Pan to whoever wants it. That way they can just email their god to the llamaserver, and get to pick their own god and scales etc.

llamabeast, can you please hold off on the start until we get a new Pan?

Jazzepi March 8th, 2008 03:13 AM

Re: Game starting

I'll take over for Pan.

Jazzepi, are you ready? Did you upload a new Pan god?

llamabeast March 8th, 2008 07:11 AM

Re: Game starting

He can't have, because jimkehn's god would have blocked his. I've removed jimkehn's now though, so go ahead and upload Jazzepi.

Working on my pretender now. I'm notoriously bad with LA Pangea. I think I've been knocked out early and decisively with them several times http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Game starting

Okay, game started! Many apologies for the delay - apparently it's been almost 5 days since Dedas asked me to start it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif Bad llama. Anyway, have fun.

I will send Dedas the admin password for the game, so he's the man to ask for extensions and stuff.

In the last ill-fated playing of this game I was T'ien Ch'i, fighting a pitched battle against Ermor. It was pretty intense actually. Dedas - avenge those fallen soldiers!

The people of Pangea are interested in earth gems. We have nature and death to trade away 1:1. Let us know if you want to make an exchange.

We're also willing to buy some for 20 gold apiece.
