Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
My army did not carry out its movement orders, in an MP game. I've seen this bug posted before. It's quite a strategic penalty when this happens
I have the .trn and .2h files from turn 49. I can confirm that in 49, the movement orders exist to attack an enemy province. There are no battles in the source or destination province. I have the .trn from turn 50 too, where my army that was supposed to be moving is just sitting around defending. Can I email these files to the developers to look at? |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
just be glad you've never seen some of the stuff i hit back in d2 days....
my favorite was when two of the games I was serving hosted at the same time...and they accidentally shared the same temp directory for long enough to get the .2h files from one game executed in the other. i can't even begin to express how crazy the game looked after that. all of a sudden various players had control of units they'd never seen before, and provinces scattered all over the map. i hadn't backed anything up, so the game was pretty obviously a wash. at least all the players got a good laugh out of it. runner up was when they released a patch in which they'd misplaced a semicolon, or something to that effect. completely and totally broke one of the jotunheim themes, which happened to be being played by me in one of the games I was hosting when I patched.... but...I guess none of that helps you :p good luck.... |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Email the files and a description of the exact situation to info at illwinter dot com.

Thanks Edi! I'll send the files there.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Thanks for posting this VFB. I had thought I was drunk or crazy when armies did not move as they were ordered to. Now, maybe not.

(Kidding about the big deal part. It was a hot sunny day, when a messenger with orders from above arrived. The army must quit their idling, and march across the border this month, numerical inferiority be damned! War Minotaurs be damned! Ten score and more Centaurs, with great massive bows be damned! I figure the captains in that province must have put rocks in the messenger's pockets and thrown him in the river.) |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I get this bug all the time in SP and it's always very annoying.
|
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Yeah, me too. And of course in SP you (almost) never keep your previous turns, so you don't have any files to send.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I had this happen in a MP game, just this last turn. An Arch Theurg and a few soldiers detached to move to a province to build a temple. Now the temple cannot be built for another turn. I may be Dom killed becuzza that.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Happened to me too - vfb, I think the MP game we are in together.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I've had it as well in a MP game.
It would be nice if someone could reproduce the bug reliably in SP. I haven't looked at the sent files, but the files reproduces the bug at hosting they might be useful. |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I have also experienced this bug which has costed me a few important battles. I can add that scouts are able to sneak into the problematic neighboring provinces when the armies fail to travel. KO: Any chance we'll see map edit commands where province_A can only travel to province_B? (one_way traveling) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif |

If it was the last turn's orders where your army failed to move, can you please email 'info at illwinter.com' with the details of what your orders were? Maybe that will help them fix the bug. |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I had it as well in MP games. Normally when moving big forces with lots of commanders. Maybe the stealth command changed to movement has something to do with the bug (in mixed forces) but really not sure and not tested.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
If you generate turn 49 again does your army move? I've never been able to repeat the bug when I find it.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I had it in a MP game. It happened 4 turns in a row, to my main army, at a time
where I was fighting (and winning) a three front war. The last two times, I was paying very careful attention, and I was damn sure it was happening. I left the game because of it. At the time, I thought that R'lyeh's dominion was affecting my commanders as a bug (they did not have the insane icon, and they were in my dominion, but the dominion was R'lyeh's for a while) It was happening to all the commanders in the province, and just in that one province. |

Rlyeh insanity can turn your commander icon red for a turn, and you cannot give him an order in that turn. If you can give your insane (but not red icon) commander an order, he will always carry it out. Anyway, I hope it doesn't happen to us four times! It's very hard to fight a war when your army can't move. |

It's tough to make progress in a war when your army ignores your orders. |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Oh, if it's on LlamaServer, my Shiny New Backup System (TM) should mean I have all the relevant files, including theh ftherlnd files. If you let me know the relevant details I'll dig it out.

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Oh, that's great! It's Forseti, I'm Mictlan.
Can you please ask the developers if they'll take a look at the whole game, and send them the backup? The past two turns, 49 and 50, I gave my armies (Mictlan) orders that weren't carried out. I've already emailed the developers with the info about which province I was moving from. Update: Pan was also giving orders to attack my province. I was giving orders to attack Pan's province. And for two turns, both armies just sat there doing nothing. |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Hmmm, not sure if this is related, but I've been testing some builds for Marverni in SP and with fair regularity one or more of the squads assigned to a commander get unassigned and put in the general pool of unassigned troops after a battle. Several times I didn't notice and ordered the commander to attack with what ended up either being half an army or just the commander. I'm attacking indies in fairly straightforward fights and my troops are not routing or anything like that. Anybody else seeing this in 3.15?

Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Update: I gave up on moving my army across that border, but Pan didn't. He army still didn't move.
|
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
Should we move this to the bug post? Since it definitely seems to be a bug.
|
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I moved it to the bugs thread, thanks.
|
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I dont think its possible to recreate this bug. Whenever I get it and reload a saved game the army moves normally.
|
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
You damned ! I've just got the bug in SP ! (no file)
Speaking of it makes it spread... Must be a ctulhu (cthulhuh ?) thing. |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
I have had this happen to my main force the last 2 turns as well, patch 3.15. Private 2 player network game, with 6 AI.
Sieging a castle, with low supplies. I was trying to move out of the province to avoid disease but everyone stayed put. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |
Re: Argh! Armies not moving bug, have save games
We have had this happen in a MP game. All 3 commanders in the same group did not move into an enemy province, and I'm sure I had them with movement orders since I always use the 'n' key to check. Other players in the same game also had problems.
