Multiplayer connection error
When i try to connect to a multiplayer game, i get a red screen, and that's it. Just after i finish typing up the port.
I've also tried connecting to several games, with each it was the same. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
i'm sure someone around here knows more than i do...but the things that jump to mind are:
are you sure you're entering the server ip and port # right? are you trying to use an illegal copy of the game, or one purchased from ebay or some other unauthorized reseller? Another way of asking this is if the CD key you're using is printed on the inside cover of a manual that came with a game you purchased from an authorized seller. other than that the only thing I can think of is router/firewall issues. make sure you're able to send and receive traffic on the port the servers are on. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Ye, i am pretty sure i'm entering the port and server ip address, i tried several times with several games.
I've bought it from a local store, and they say they ordered it from the company that created it. I don't think it is a pirated copy, as i don't have the lockups that are reported with pirated copies. And yes, i'm sure it's not a firewall/router issue. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
What do you mean you get a red screen? The entire screen goes uniformly red?

Re: Multiplayer connection error
Yes, here's a screenshot of how it looks:
http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mpbugci1.jpg I've also tried reinstalling it and to try and connect with patch 3.14, with it, it doesn't show the red screen, but it says server down. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
A bad cd-key?
I guess i'll take it to the shop i bought it from, see what they say. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Multiple people have had the same problem as you an they either had:
A. A corrupted "key" file (delete it and restart the game) or B. An illegitimate version of the game (no manual, crack or whatever). So, as someone else wrote: do you have the cd-key printed inside your manual? If not, it is positively a pirated version. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
No, i didn't get a manual with it, only the cd, a small case to put it in, and a cd-key label printed on it. But i didn't have any problems with lockups or such, and still don't. Only this red screen when i try to connect to a multiplayer game.
I guess i'll go and speak with the seller at the shop i bought it at. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
You should, as that's a pirate copy you've got. The game comes with a ~300 page ringbinder manual. No manual = pirated copy. It's also best if you contact Shrapnel technical support immediately, as I am obliged to inform the forum administrators of this.

Re: Multiplayer connection error
Contact them, and tell them what?
Also, does any of the official retailers ship worldwide? if so, which one? |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Ask them how to proceed from here, as the policy on people with pirated copies has generally been a fairly straightforward banning.
Your case has more mitigating circumstances than most if you indeed bought it from a store where you live, but you need to talk to them about it. You are likely going to have to buy a legitimate copy if you wish to stay on these forums. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Well, i did buy it from a store, and i'll go the day after tomorrow, to see what the seller has to say about it.
Either way, i guess i'll have to order it. Do you know which one of the official retailers ships world wide? |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Hmm... I think Shrapnel store does.
If you got a pirated copy it is rather newly pirated or cd key was put recently on net, because you wouldn't be able to use any patch at all. |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Denisius, as I'm also from Israel, can you tell me which store you bought it from? (I might know it, so I can both:
a) Beware of buying games from them. b) Confirm their existence and any bad reputation they might have. (If I know them, of course)) As for where you can get it legally, I bought it directly from Shrapnel Games' store. It took them a bit over a week to ship it. (that is, a bit over a week from shipment to delivery) |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
When i was there, i didn't notice any name, i think it has none.
Alright, i'll order the game in a few days. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif By the way, in what city do you live in? |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Ah, so it's one of them. Not surprising at all that you got an illegal copy then.
Nowadays I do most of my game-shopping from mediagame.co.il, they have the cheapest prices I've seen, and I much prefer having the game shipped over than actually getting out of the house http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (They also tend to have games much earlier then regular stores.) |
Re: Multiplayer connection error
Thanks for the link, now i can really never leave the house again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
