The Glowing Hill, Really?!

Ok I was just playing an EA game as Oni and I found this site, the Glowing Hill, is it just me or is it great? You can get Daoine Sidhe for 35 gold and sacred?! Is this a rare site? And how many more of these can I find? This is amazing! stuff like this keeps me playing!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

I've seen it a few times. Daoine Sidhe are usually cheap enough resource-wise that you probably don't even need a fort on it to get them (though you might want one anyway to protect them). Especially nice if you have a good bless, and if you have stealthy priests that can lead them (or failing that, a prophetized scout or spy with a whip of command or scepter of authority), you have pretty decent, blessable raiders.

Its pretty rare. I have no idea exactly how rare, but I have only seen it twice playing dozens of games.

sadly I just got rolled by all the AI's in the game I was playing...I shall have to try again!! Though I doubt I will find it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif some day...

I just looked up the site in the dom3 database. It is only uncommon, not rare, but it is a unique, so at most one per game. Also, it can occur on any normal land province.

There is also one that gives you R'lyeh's Illithids. I got it a few games ago, was a nice surprise http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There are enough completely awesome sites that searching your territory for all gems types is worth it just for the chance to find even one.

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

Ohh an Illithid one too? That one would be really nifty! I would pour a lot of gold into that one :O

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

That one's The Crater. It's unique, undersea, and uncommon I think.

There's also a site called Strange House in the Mist where an astral mage can enter to summon Void Beings. In effect, it's a second Void Gate. Rare though, and unique.

There is a land illithid one. Can't recall the name though. I have of course only received it once and then when I was playing Ry'leh.

Hmm, I'll need to take a look at the Site DB, because I don't remember the land illithid one.

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

I think Crater can be both on land and under seas. Not 100% sure. I've found it a couple times. Just like the Glowing Hill. Actualy, I remember the esoteric and mysterious times of Dom 1 & 2 when The Glowing Hill would allow you to recruit Vans... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

That one Death site that lets you to summon Wights (or was it Banes, as units...) is also rather kickass.

The Bowl of the Lost, and Banes. At first it's strange that the Banes come as units, but it after a while it you get used to it, and it seems thematic to have a Banelord leading some Banes around.

Seven Tombs, Death Mage enters to recruit Mummies, is pretty cool, too. Come with an AP stun attack (nifty!) and Plague Carrier (bah, Plague Carriers are annoying to handle as a non-death nation.)

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

I usually get the crappy 'enter to summon 1 shade' site.

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

The Crater is deep sea only and it's the only site that gives illithids. Can appear on land only if scripted in map file.

I've got that site http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. Or one like it. Temple of Darkness, and every turn my Revenant gets a Shade plus a Shadow. Now, there's a sprite that's hard to see!

The Shades and Shadows need a bit of a stealth fix, they are only +0. But I had about 20 or so in the province, and they managed to fight off a small surprise attack of Elephants.

Shades are crappy because they only get a 'Steal Strength' attack. But Shadows get 10AN Paralyze damage. Really nice against low MR enemies!

I cannot resist the free summons sites, and it's tough for me to turn down hiring from the recruitables sites too.

Worst one I've seen though is the water site that lets you hire little Markata archers.

I still like to use those. I just using the crappiest death mage I can find and getting free stuff is enough for me, no matter how bad it is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There's also a Longdead horse and banfire archer site. Finding that early is nice. The horse don't come in enough quantity to be useful, but the archers are always good. And they build up, while the horse just charge and die.

I found the Strange House once in DOM_2 and once in DOM_3... each time I had an astral mage enter the site for at least 5 turns straight yet nothing arrived.

Re: The Glowing Hill, Really?!

I like the 'enter to summon' sites as well. Not that I ever use them myself but as soon as I find one I try to make my opponent take it from me. It's good fun to see the amount of resources some players are willing spend just to defend their 'free lunch'. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

There is the troll pit, that allows you (you guessed it) to recruit trolls. For 60 gold a peice. ouch.

I've had the Blood one that allows a blood mage to enter to summon Fiends of Darkness. You get 1 per turn.

A single troll is easily worth 6 normal infantry. Summoned trolls are exactly the same, so you pay 4 upkeep per turn for them. Troll Pit is a very good site, imo, since trolls cost next to no resources (1 base and 1 for furs). Troll pit is not unique, neither is Troglodyte Den. There's also a water site named Troll Pit, underwater only and lets you recruit sea trolls.

The demon summoning sites are all unique and you get 1 per turn. The Demon Gate and The Lesser Abyss (cave only) for fiends of darkness, Devils' Den for devils. There's also a couple of sites that allow summoning beast bats among the newer set (site number 570+).

I love finding this site as EA R'Lyeh as I can take mind blasters on land just like MA and LA R'Lyeh. I'm a R'Lyeh freak at heart. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif
