Re: Global War (started!)

Finally! So I'm ready to start but which Ulm am I? On the server list I mean.

Also since I've only played PBEM before, how do I take my turn?

Rathar April 12th, 2008 07:55 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

I assume you put a password on your pretender so the one which lets you in with your password will be the one you are.

There are two ways to take your turn. One is to connect to the server it will download your turn and then you can disconnect and go to play an existing game. When you are done with the turn, reconnect to the server and it will upload your turn.

The other way is to connect to the server, tell it that yes you do still wish to play your nation then click on your nation name below all the national flag symbols. This will take you right into the game where you can do your stuff. When finished hit end turn and voila you are done.

Please note that if you use the second method and you do most or some of your turn and click save game and quit (under options) it will treat is as a completed turn. So if everyone else gets their turn in the turn will process and your undone things will sit there drooling.

Thanks everyone for all the effort that went into setting this up. TNN just took their first turn sucessfully.

Re: Global War (started!)

Btw, are we doing anything for turn notification - posting here or email?

Tuidjy April 13th, 2008 01:47 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Guys, there is a WEIRD problem with the game. At least the first three
nation in the list are NOT password protected. I usually try them all
to make sure that no one forgot to put a password, and as I hit nations
1, 2 and 3, I got their turns.

In a game that has such strict communication rules, this is enough to
ruin the game. PLEASE, PLEASE restart.

And let everyone make sure that their nations passwords work. I have
never seen this happen.

Ylvali April 13th, 2008 01:59 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Could be those players simply skipped making passwords and in that case it ainīt susch a big deal.

If passwords have disappeared somehow then of course weīd have to restart.

Tuidjy April 13th, 2008 02:10 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

I'm one of these players. I do not remember skipping a password in the last
four years I've been playing Dom 2/3. Using catgod, Minevra shows a password.
It's possible I uploaded an earlier version, but seriously, do you want to ask
yourself, every turn, whether someone will blank your orders, or peek at your
position? I know I do not, and if 3 of the first 3 nations are unprotected,
what are the chances they are the only ones?

Ylvali April 13th, 2008 03:06 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

In that case I might second a restart. But it would require redesigning and resending all pretenders with no password = big delay again.

I donīt think I would be that worried about abuse really. I trust the participants. I have another game without password and I dont worry a bit. Still I guess it could make a lot of bad feelings if accusations of abuse were thrown around the forum, might be better to be secure.

Lets hear some more opinions on this.

ok for restart

Foodstamp April 13th, 2008 03:25 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

To make things easier during the restart, CU should have people email him their pretenders, as to not have to deal with the interface bug.

DonCorazon April 13th, 2008 03:30 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

fine with restart.

question if we do restart - my capital was on a wasteland - not sure if that was intentional but most MP games I have been in capital is at least a plain province or better.

quantum_mechani April 13th, 2008 03:46 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Capital population is the same regardless.

IndyPendant April 13th, 2008 03:47 PM

Love a restart here. By the time the game began, I'd be back from my trip! ; )

Rathar April 13th, 2008 03:55 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

My password poofed too but I trust people. If you cheat to win you actually lose not to mention that IP's are tracked with access times so you would also be banned from playing any games of MP. (If that isn't the case, keep quiet! Let em sweat!)

I'm good either way.

Hoplosternum April 13th, 2008 04:14 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Happy with a restart.

I trust everyone so I am happy to carry on to.

well I actually forgot to set a password (I think) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif dumb....
yeah let's restart...I will make another pretender with password.

otthegreat April 13th, 2008 09:58 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

I think I forgot a password too. So, a restart would be good but I'm alright either way. Besides I called my god "Karngroth the Blood Drinder". I don't know what drinding is but I assume my people really enjoy it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

I'm going away (last minute) from Thursday to Friday so I might need a short extension for that turn.

I'm okay with a restart. I agree that everyone should probably have a password on their pretender.

So we are restarting? I am fine with it. I have my pretender still, and I remembered my password and it worked fine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Heh. That would be because I didn't send it. Sorry, I misunderstood the part about "...don't want to mess with the server..." and was waiting.

I will have to go away until sunday evening, just found out. Itīs work stuff.

Can we wait til then? otherwise I guess I need a sub or have to bail out.

CUnknown April 17th, 2008 04:48 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Sure, no problem. I wouldn't want you to have to bail. We've waited so long, we can wait a little longer.

But we are starting for sure on sunday with a 24-h hosting time! Be ready to rock then, guys!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Global War (started!)

What time on Sunday do we start? I still feel a bit crummy, but early game 5-10 minute turns shouldn't be too bad.

CUnknown April 19th, 2008 02:32 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

We are up and running!

I won't start the clock until everyone has taken at least one turn, then it will be set to 24-h quickhost.

So, Yvali, take your time, you won't stale the first turn. I was just setting things up so maybe you could take two turns in a row when you log on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hm, are you sure 24 hour hosting is up? I played my turn yesterday, and when I log in today, it tells me there are 20 hours left.

Folket April 22nd, 2008 05:28 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Perhaps the server has rebooted for some reason.

CUnknown April 22nd, 2008 06:26 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Oh, yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that I re-set the timer. I didn't want anyone to stale. When it gets close to the end of the time, I get nervous. It seems like we should be able to avoid people staling on turn 2, heh.

Although perhaps we should just switch to 48-h quickhost and have it be a firm deadline. Although when that happens, I think people say "Oh I can take my turn tomorrow." I think people will take their turns faster with a 24-h clock, even if I am going to extend it if they don't. I'm not sure.

Instead of extending it like that, I should turn off the timer and pm the people who haven't taken their turns yet, I think.

Fal April 22nd, 2008 06:46 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

let's just hope people show a little commitment and finish their turns within 24 hours. Maybe switch to 48 from turn 20?

moderation April 23rd, 2008 01:53 PM

Re: Global War (started!)

Hmm, I can't seem to get into the server now. It gets stuck at "Waiting for game info" whenever I try to log in. Tried 3 times so far, including deleting the save game. Is anyone else having connection issues?
