The Dueling Club

I'm often interested in quick one on one games as opposed to the commitment of a bigger game, and it stands to reason perhaps others are too. So, the idea of this thread is to compile a list of players interested in duels so that opponents can be found. I'll update this post as people (hopefully) express their interest.

Potential Dueling Players:

-quantum_mechani
-Micah
-Cerlin
-Renojustin
-Cor2
-CUnknown
-Lingchih
-DonCorazon
-Herode
-otthegreat
-lebarjack
-Folket
-moderation
-Ironhawk
-Pashadawg
-LDiCesare
-Hadrian_II

Re: The Dueling Club

Sign me up as well, though I'd generally prefer hosted games vs blitzes, at least past the first few turns.

Cerlin April 15th, 2008 11:24 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

Sounds like it may be fun. Especially for testing specific things against other players without having a huge game commitment (Which is why i'd love blitz's if i had the time.)

Renojustin April 16th, 2008 12:54 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

That's a cool idea mon. I'd like to get some small-scale blitz games going, maybe even including some AI, on random maps against one or two people.

Re: The Dueling Club

sounds good. I am in.

CUnknown April 16th, 2008 02:14 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

I would play!

I suck at duels and blitzes though. Maybe this will give me more practice at thinking on my feet.

I will duel. Sign me up. Is this like the Fight Club?

Rule #1. Never talk about the Dueling Club.

Re: The Dueling Club

I am interested, not for right now because I'm playing 3 games, but in a couple of weeks.

Just a question, how do you handle this? Setting up a MP server seems a bit overkill? PBEM?

lebarjack April 16th, 2008 09:46 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

That's quite an interesting idea!
I am ready for duelling...

En garde!!!

Folket April 16th, 2008 10:54 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

PBEM for blitzes is a horrible idea. Setting up a server is very easy and fast.

I'm allways up for a duel.

Also if you play you may want to report games on http://wikihost.org/wikis/dom_ladder/wiki/duel_ladder
with short after actions reports.

Send me a mess if you do and I will update ranking.

Re: The Dueling Club

Looks like we have quite a few people, I'll talk to lch about hosting some games. I was thinking the following settings for the pre-hosted games:

-Random map, 30 provs
-Easy research
-All else standard
-One for each age, CB and non-CB

Hi:

I like duels, too! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

For what it is worth, I created this map just for duels, and it seems to work well enough. http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...o=&fpart=1

Re: The Dueling Club

Dueling sounds like fun. And a nice contrast to big MP games. No time right now, but I'd be interested in dueling two or three weeks from now.

LDiCesare April 17th, 2008 03:21 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

I would be interested in duelling once in a while, but time zones may be an issue.

Hadrian_II April 17th, 2008 03:43 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

Sounds fun, im in, but how are the duels matched, just at the dom3 channel?

Folket April 17th, 2008 06:08 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

Usually you just sit in the channel and talk to people?

CUnknown April 17th, 2008 01:51 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

We could keep win-loss records, even, if we were so inclined. I agree that we should stick to standard settings.

Who wants to go first? I'll duel somebody.

I don't really want to do a blitz duel, but maybe a 24-h quickhost duel? I will take my turns as quickly as possible.

Who dares to face me???? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Cor2 April 17th, 2008 02:10 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

I will face you! :FACE: how do you want to do it? PBEM or server?

also what era?

CUnknown April 17th, 2008 02:22 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

You will regret this decision, Cor!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif

I will do either PBEM or server.. I suppose I prefer using a server. I am hosting 2 different games on my computer right now, maybe we can use a different server? Any suggestions?

I will do any Era. How about Late? (no Ermor, no Ryleh?)

Cerlin April 17th, 2008 03:46 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

24 hour host duels that were a little slower would be good for time zone differences. I would be interested in doing those with people who wanted it a little more medium speed duels. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif But both ways do work for me.

DonCorazon April 17th, 2008 03:57 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

I am up for the 24 hour, medium paced duel.

Ironhawk April 17th, 2008 04:42 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

I could be down for some dueling. This long MP game I'm in was breaking my back timewise so it would be nice to try something fast and short.

DonCorazon April 17th, 2008 06:27 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

Yeah Ironhawk, that should be over next turn, right? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

How exactly do you face someone on the internet though?

Send me your GPS coordinate and I shall rotate my chair in your general direction! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: The Dueling Club

Good news, I contacted Gandolf about his neat blitz server (it has default 24 hour turns), It has not been so heavily used recently. He said he would set it up again for us, so there is an option.

Hurray Gandolf!

Cor2 April 17th, 2008 10:45 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

I need a consnsus as to what the start settings will be. BEFORE Gandolf sets the games up.

I suggest standard except:
HOF5/ Magic easy/ and sites 65/Renaming on

I am flexible on all this, I just need to know what the community wants.

Settings sound good.

Ironhawk April 18th, 2008 01:13 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

I think we should stick with HOF 15. I know that sounds like serious overkill for a duel but like 90% of the time guys with heroic abilities are wasted anyway. If you have a big hall you increase the chance of getting a heroic ability on a commander that deserves it.

Cerlin April 18th, 2008 01:28 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

I wouldnt be opposed to that...It is always fun having HOF commanders.

Cor2 April 18th, 2008 03:20 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

I think HOF 15 would be fun as well.

CUnknown April 18th, 2008 10:34 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

Also, magic sites.. did you say set them to 65? That seems sort of extreme.

I vote for maybe HoF 10.

DonCorazon April 18th, 2008 10:43 AM

Re: The Dueling Club

I am less concerned about settings but would rather get started sooner. I suggest you set them how you like and let the fights begin!

Re: The Dueling Club

Why don't you just play then? it is not like a duel needs a lot of planing. Yesterday me and Zeldor had duel. Was over in under three hours.

DonCorazon April 18th, 2008 12:23 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

How did you play? PBEM? I was at work for one and two, never having hosted not sure what I need but having a server sounds the most convenient.

Would love to duel tomorrow ( Sat - West coast US)

Folket April 18th, 2008 03:32 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

We meet in the IRC channel and agree to play. Then the person hosting just starts two instances of the game.

Try to setup network game yourself it is very easy. Then you connect to yourself using 127.0.0.1 as IP.

Folket April 18th, 2008 03:34 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

btw, I played Hadrian-II today. About one and a half hour. Just start playing and post your game on
http://wikihost.org/wikis/dom_ladder/wiki/duel_ladder

Cerlin April 18th, 2008 04:13 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

hey DonCorazon. I am a west coaster too and if you want to do a duel tomorrow i'd be up for it. I have never done one so I shouldnt be TOO overpowering lol.

Cerlin April 18th, 2008 04:14 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

And apparently Folket is a real duel fan! haha. Having a ladder would be fun.

DonCorazon April 18th, 2008 04:59 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

Cerlin, I have never dueled / blitzed either so sounds good. Hope you are more tech savvy than me - not sure I completely understood Folket's explanation -
I should be available around 9:00am Pacific and free most of the day.

Cerlin April 18th, 2008 05:57 PM

Re: The Dueling Club

Ok. I figured out to how to host on my own compy from Folkets direction. The only problem is figuring out which IP is the right one so you can link up. Though I opened the a Port so I can host the game. I know that much about my network haha.
Edit: Figured out how to get the Ip Address (Which is the right one that is.) So I can host tomorrow. Im not the best Irc user. I could use that, or some kind of instant messanger. Either works.

Some duel servers

I have created a bunch of games for this for qm.

One random map and one with Pasha's duel map (please download first!), every era, with and without the latest CBM mod.

All settings are at 2 players, easy research, HOF 15, rest normal, quickhost with no timer, game starts automatically when two pretenders are in.

Random Map, EA game, no CBM: valhalla.techno-mage.com port 10010
Random Map, MA game, with CBM: valhalla.techno-mage.com port 10021
Random Map, LA game, with CBM: valhalla.techno-mage.com port 10031
Pasha's Map, EA game, with CBM: valhalla.techno-mage.com port 10511
Pasha's Map, MA game, with CBM: valhalla.techno-mage.com port 10521

Started games:
Random Map, EA game, with CBM aka HellishGrind: quantum_mechani vs. CUnknown
Random Map, MA game, no CBM aka BigHumiliator: quantum_mechani vs. Baalz
Random Map, LA game, no CBM aka DiabolicForces: Cicadian vs. Omnirizon 1:0
Pasha's Map, EA game, no CBM aka IntimateEvil: Cerlin (Tir'na n'Og) vs. Domcorazon (Formoria) 1:0
Pasha's Map, MA game, no CBM aka TenderBrainpower: quantum_mechani (Pangea) vs. Xanatos (Ermor) 1:0
Pasha's Map, LA game, no CBM aka HardiestDebug: Cor2 (Pythium) vs. CUnknown (Argartha) 0:1
Pasha's Map, LA game, with CBM aka UltraConspirator: Lingchih (Pythium) vs. moderatio (Ermor)

If you grab a server, it would be nice if you'd post the players here, the game name and the eventual result. The web stats page will show your game graphs when the game is underway. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
