Problems with Racial traits
I'm trying to add a racial trait for a kind of "Enviromentalist/Recycler" race to my mod, and I've hit a snag.
The premise is a race that is environmentally cautious, and utilizes every resorce to it's fullest capacity, thus reducing the resources needed to run the society, etc. How would I go about adding a thing like this, or can I? |
Re: Problems with Racial traits
This recent trend of posting the same question on every forum makes it really difficult to track discussions spanning multiple domains...

No, they should link everything to one common thread.
Otherwise you're going to waste people's time giving answers that have already been given. Its like asking someone on the street for directions, and then quietly asking a couple other people in the area the same question while the first guy is getting out a map. |
Re: Problems with Racial traits
No rude comment for SJ's "inconvenience?"

Re: Problems with Racial traits
No, because he added a constructive suggestion for dealing with the supposed "problem", rather than just indulging in self-absorbed whining.
Not that I agree with the suggestion, mind you. If somebody asked a question, but wanted all replies posted to another thread on some other site that I don't normally read, I probably wouldn't bother answering. When I have a question that I could post in multiple forums, I post it in the one I think most likely to produce a useful reply, then wait a week or so for an answer before trying again on the next most likely site. |
Re: Problems with Racial traits
Self-absorbed whining? What? Wasting people's time giving answers that have already been given affects everyone. Posting a link to the other thread where the answer has been posted seems like a solution to me...

Hehe.

Re: Problems with Racial traits
I've been under a tremendous amount of stress for the past few months. I'm just fed up with people disappointing me, no matter how low I set my expectations of them.
Fyron, I apologize for taking that out on you, because that isn't what you did. |

In the street corner example, you'd wait until the first guy says "Hmm... I dunno" before asking someone else. (As opposed to asking the second and third guys to help find it on the first guy's map) |

Re: Problems with Racial traits
For the record, when I post a question here and then again on another (Fyron's http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ) site, I do so with the idea in mind that NOT everyone on one sight will see it posted on the other OR care to follow a link there. As a result I quite frequently get broader or more informative responses to a given question, statement, or posting, and from a wider variety of people.
I also make a point of wording any given post, title and all, EXACTLY the same way each place, assuming that if "one" saw it posted on a differing sight, and "one" didn't care to read or respond to it again, "one" could simply and readily skip it through prior recognition, thus avoiding any need to complain about reading the same post on each sight. Perhaps I was in error doing this in this manner? |
Re: Problems with Racial traits
No, you're right BK. You hit a broader collection of knowledge this way.
Not all of us "Know It All's" are on one site!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif |
Re: Problems with Racial traits
My suggestion is just a cross-link to the other threads in your first post, so that everybody can easily see what has already been said.

Re: Problems with Racial traits
It's a matter of perspective. The guy asking the original question may get his answer a little quicker by posting in multiple threads. However, a post is most useful to the community at large if it can be linked to a single thread.
I prefer the second approach, because it leads to fairly reasonably organized information. The first approach leads to a mess. |
