Where are the downloads?
I think this is the 3rd week I've rushed to the library during my lunch period, and come up empty handed on SEV downloads. Where are all of you modders & shipset creators who usually upload something on a weekly basis?

Re: Where are the downloads?
Spaceempires.net has most of the downloads - in the Shipyards and Download areas.
The Balance Mod is always available at my site. The Wiki has a few links to mods that are not hosted elsewhere... http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Mods_%28SEV%29 |
Re: Where are the downloads?
SE5 Shipset megapack (currently 320 MB)
Multimedia pack (currently 150 MB) Are you already checking specifically on your favorite mods? |
Re: Where are the downloads?
You guys seem to have misinterpreted the question. He's not asking where stuff can be downloaded, he's asking what happened to all the new releases there used to be.
There hasn't been much in the way of new releases lately. What has been released tends to be announced more on spaceempires5.com and spaceempires.net more than Shrapnel these days. |
Re: Where are the downloads?
More ship sets please!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
One can keep track of new shipsets here.
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
Kwok , any thought of including any of these new shipsets for Balance Mod ?
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
That would not be a good idea. It would distort the purpose of the mod, which is not to add things to the game, but simply to balance the data. It would increase the download size of the mod. It would increase the amount of maintenance work Kwok has to perform, keeping more races up to date. And last but not least, its trivial to adapt shipsets to work as AI empires in the mod, making it not a very compelling thing to do.

Re: Where are the downloads?
Part of the problem is that making new things for SEV is much more difficult. The 3D nature is what does that. With SEIV you didn't need to worry about that so long as you had a presentable 2D image. 3D stuff is a different thing entirely.
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
The better SE4 shipsets were made from 3D models, though.
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
Generally through DoGA, which is pretty easy to use.

Re: Where are the downloads?
I would like to know when the next patch is coming out and what it fixed (i think i saw a post somewhere about 1.77)
and to all the modders out there let us know what you are doing about the new stuff that your putting into the mod (the months is WWWAAAYYYYY too long) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Re: Where are the downloads?
1.77? Must have been a typo; the latest version is 1.71. If you know of any bugs you want fixed, email Aaron (se5 at malfador dot com; preferably with a savegame attached to reproduce the bug) and he might get around to fixing them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Where are the downloads?
Well, I should be coming out with a CB1.7 sometime this month...
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
This game is pretty much on its way out so there isn't a huge incentive to make new things for it.
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
That seems to be the opposite from reality. All sorts of activity goes on over on the official boards.

'course, we all do know that 3D is better anyway. :V |
Re: Where are the downloads?
I don't think it was mostly Doga. Sure AT was obsessed with it, but there were a lot of other authors besides him. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I know of people that used Maya, 3dsmax, etc. Hell, even one or two crazy people used AutoCAD! Then of course there were the screen capture shipsets that certainly can't translate to SE5.

Then again, the toolbar would have to be installed on the library's computer, which it might not be.... Another solution might be Google Docs, where if you log in to the various Google services (with a gmail address or some such) you can create a doc accessible from anywhere and copy/paste urls into it. Re: Where are the downloads?
Or you could use Opera@USB in combination with something like GoodSync.
+ You can keep your emails and newsfeeds with you in a program - and easier to organise than in the web email software! (Drag and drop, learning filters...) - Some of the public computers might not allow you to use programs from usb drives, either because they are well-protected, or because the drivers are not up to date (for the oldest computers). Oh, and SE4 and SE5 both work from USB drives! (you only need to keep with you your serial for SE5) |
Re: Where are the downloads?
Or use the portable version of a better supported browser.
There are dozens of online bookmarking services available though, so you probably don't need to go to the extent of a portable browser. They would be accessible from any machine, so long as it does not forbid the creation of cookies (though there are even some that let you make your bookmarks publicly visible). |
Re: Where are the downloads?
Flash drives are pretty cheap. Create a text file in notepad and save the URL's there.
|
Re: Where are the downloads?
Not all public computers have accessible USB ports though. Web servers are universal.
