Bug : commander abandonning his troops

The MP game is "Strolling 2", on llamaserver.

Looks like there is a bug here. I have a whole bunch of units without their commander. This commander moves and
1- left behind him more than the half of his units as garrison in the starting province
2- left the remnants on his units as garrison in the final province.

Of course, I did not garrisonned units last turn and of course, I don't know how a commander can in the same turn both move into a province and garrison it...

Never saw something like that before.

Use your old .trn file with your sent .2h file and check that you really sent your commander with all the units to the other province.

Was there any events/battles?

I had spotted this, too.

Never both points at once and I am not sure, I really ever saw the first one:
I had it, that my commander moves somewhere and suddenly does not have his troops with him, but when this happened, I could never exactly tell, that he had this troops with him when I send him, it could also have been a combination of the second version with me not realising it fast enough.

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

@calmon : I don't save my old .trn files but I am sure that the commander has been sent with all his units. The game is in its 7th turn, there are few armies to move. My moves have been pretty simple : one little army (2 commanders) + one army (1 commander) coming to reinforce with last turn's recruits.

Moreover, even if I had garrisonned some units by mistake in the original province, this cannot explain why the few left units for this commander have been "automatically" garrisonned in the final province.

One event only (gems). No battles.

This sounds like a transient bug that affected early versions of Dom3. I only saw it once myself, but then it happened quite consistently to my friend who I was playing hotseat with. His Marverni commanders kept randomly dropping units after a move, so he had to check every turn to make sure they were still there. This was with 3.04. Never seen it since.

What version are you using, what nation are you in the game and what other specific can you tell me about it (commander type etc etc)?

Could be possible the commander was wearing a leadership boosting item which was moved to a lab or another commander.

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

I've run into this frequently while playing Marverni. Well, actually it may be a little different. I have a successful fight with few losses (no commanders lost, no routing) but all the troops for a commander are now unassigned. If I'm not paying very close attention said commander goes forward to attack the next province all by himself.

Happens with fair regularity with Marverni, but haven't seen it with any other nations.

This bug is independent of items, they are not a factor.

Whoops, didn't see your post when I made mine Edi. I've definitely seen it several times this version in the Figment game I'm playing. I saw it regularly when playing several games against the AI in test games while preparing for that one, but never with any other nation so it would seem to be tied to something in Marverni.

Has it always been with Marverni, Baalz?

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

sorry, just updating my previous post to be clearer, yes, always with Marverni. It is not consistent, but it does happen frequently enough that its not too hard to reproduce...maybe 5-10% of the time.

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

I definitely saw that early on. I thought it had been resolved, but maybe I just haven't played Marverni enough.

This was before the bug Shortlist, so it seems to have slipped through the cracks.

The Marverni battle version is definitely a bug and should be on the list. I'm not sure if the OPs problem is related, a different bug or some user issue that we're not seeing.

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

Hold on, guys !
Searching in my screwed emails, I eventually found the attached files from llamaserver, the True Gods may bless him forever.

After several tries, I can see at least what's going on. In this case, I was wrong : it is not a bug.

The story :

I am playing EA Yomi.

turn 5 : my army had 3 commanders and the troops where under the command of a Bandit Leader - and not of the Dai Oni I was thinking about in my last posts.

Battle against barbarians : I win the battle. The Bandit Leaders retreats just at the end of the combat BUT most of his troops do not retreat. I did not saw this and did not check carefully (with the 'T' key) the status of the troops in the province before giving my orders. Shame on me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

turn 6 : Seing the Bandit Leader alone in the province where he retreated, I thought he was one of my spies moving towards the indies provinces to scout them. And I just moved the 2 commanders who did not flee - but who had no troops under command - leaving behind them the troops of the coward Bandit Leader.
These 2 leaders found in the province where they were moving the few troops that retreated last turn before their commander...

That's the explanation.

Oooof... and sorry again for the erroneous statement about a bug... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

Don't worry. Even if your situation was just user error and not a bug, the Marvernin issue IS a genuine bug, so no harm done. So it was a good thing you posted this thread. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Just reproduced this in my current turn if anybody wants it.

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

As having played Marverni quite a bit, I can confirm Baalz's statement. To my experience it happens after a successful battle without anybody retreating.

Re: Bug : commander abandonning his troops

When playing with Marverni, I have too had very often that after a battle, not one unit routs, but still most units are unassigned. Not from mage commanders tough - usually only from normal commanders (this is mutu (= I feel like it) and could bee wrong also).

Also the "unassigned after moving to target provinse" happens a lot. I didn't notice the "dropping before moving" because I had long lines of commander moving units and all of them dropping along the way, so can't really distinguish.
