British Army\'s Jackal
Anyone have more info on the UK's new vehicle Jackal?
Is it in the game? I looked but didn't see anything? http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums...p;postcount=21 |
Re: British Army\'s Jackal
I just checked various web sites and the the Jackal is a new British long range patrol vehicle which can mount various types of weapons similar to their SAS Land Rovers. It also appears to be more robust that the land rovers. They have build about 100-200 of them. They only appear to carry only three troops-two in the front and one in a rear position.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
Oh yes, the Jackal, I would love to know who approved this deathtrap for the british armed forces.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
It looks a little bit more armoured than the Rover so why do you say deathtrap if it is to be used in the same role as a Land Rover? Just interested.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
Armoured against mines perhaps, but what about things that fly, like bullets, shrapnel, rocks? It's like a convertible hearse.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
You have to remember that FAVs (fast attack vehicles)such as the land rover, dune buggies, are just raiding vehicles just as they were during WWII in the desert. They are for raiding and supporting Rangers, SEALs, SAS, and the like and not for sustained combat operations. Also they can be used for recon operations.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
For Iraq (and I guess future urban combat) they need the MRAP vehicles. As the article states these are going to Afghanistan to replace the land rovers. The Brits to my knowledge operate the Mastiff MRAPs for the urban areas of Iraq. I understand your point, but I guess the mission is different for ops in Afghanistan.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
back to my original question... I searched the OOB for Jackal and had no results. Is called something else or is it not in the official OOB?

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
When did it become operational?
V-4.0 was released 1st of May, so maybe there wasn't enough time to include it. |
Re: British Army\'s Jackal
Not sure... the picture was posted on 8 April and it was in Afghanistan then. Oh well I guess I'll mobhack it.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
Defense Industry Daily dated September 16, 2007 has an article describing the vehicle with some photos. Most other listings are dated around April 2008.

Re: British Army\'s Jackal
Its not a jackal. It's a MWMIK. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif (Yeah I know)
As to the Deathtrap thing, its not designed to get in a bust up up close and nasty with Terry. Its a fire support and Recon Vehicle. Meaning its got lots of Guns and mobility. I think your confusing several issues here. Snatch Rover's where being used in Iraq, and really where a death trap when hit by IED's. These where replaced with Mastiff, and In the RGJ, Bulldog. The Land Rover WMIK has not had any serious problems in AFG or Iraq. MWMIK is designed to give WMIK rover's more fire-power. Use them at long range to clobber enemy units and stay at long range with them. Their Survivability is also helped by the fact Terry can't shoot straight 99% of the time. |
