Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I've lost another powerful SC because of the battle turn limit which KILLS.
The Story: My fully equipped Golem fought a huge battle against 8 mages, 320 regular units and 150 undead. His life started with 127 from gift of health. To make a long story short near the end of the battle he was at 9 hitpoints, cursed, horror_marked, weakened, limped, and crippled yet the enemy was finally routing! Then fear set into the rock solid golem heart as he recognized one of the fleeing enemies were also crippled. Turn after turn after turn he dragged himself towards the crippled enemy yet the distance remained the same. All enemy armies of Lanka yelled run away or your body and soul will be banished from existence by the mighty UNION. The crippled units could not move fast enough as the battlefield timeline expired. Then the official UNION presidents arrived on the battlefield... declaring the violation of UNION law upon the two crippled creatures. The union presidents then opened a mighty blackhole above the battlefiled, magic beyond comprehension for any pretenders or gods. The crippled demon ogre pleaded for mercy and displayed his crippled body for the reason of his delay, yet he was the first hurled into a great blackhole which was opened by the UNION presidents. The pretender owning the golem begs for justice since his golem has clearly won a very close battle and deserves to survive. The UNION presidents laugh while sending the golem into the black hole as well. The UNION presidents fly away into the stars proclaiming, "We are more powerful than any pretenders or gods... and UNION law states no battles go beyond 8pm or the result is DEATH." The pretender grinds his fists against the ground wishing for some type of change against these UNION laws. [b] ** Feel free to share your stories . |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I had similar thing with Golem, He had Sickle, Krupp's Bracers, some other expensive stuff, 30D gems from Sickle, 1500+ kills, powerful heroic ability. He was fighting a group of 50-100 demon knights. And then he vanished at turn 50, without many scratches, able to find hundreds of turns more... of course enemy used the chance to steal 1 artifact from me.

Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
That's a pretty thematic story, NTJedi! Good for you, finding the right rationale.

Condolences for your golem.
My crippled pretender didn't manage to run away fast enough from pesky Mictlanese lately. Too bad the only affliction she got was crippled... |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I too had a very unpleasant battle due to turn limit in my capital,
Niefelheim was attacking me with 4/5 of his whole army and 20-25 regeneration berserk Niefel giants ( there for never rout ) The strategy was darkness, skellspam , and a bunch of protection spells backed up with bane fire and some other evocation spells ( I was Helheim ). At turn 50 the regular army retreats with only the berserk Niefels left, and had the battle lasted another 10 turn more I would have killed them, but unfortunately my army started to retreat and with nowhere to retreat to I lost EVERYONE, and that was pretty much the end for me. |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
What exactly did that have to do with the turn limit? If anything, it helped you.
|
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
All the provinces around my fort were captured, and I didn't have anywhere to retreat to after battle turn 75 when my troops started routing, and so I lost all my mages and my capital, and how do you mean it helped me?
|
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
Because their army arbitrarily routed at turn 50?
|
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
Not all of them, he still had about 20 Neifel giants that were berserk and didn't rout, and I couldn't kill them that easily, they had a very strong bless, but I would have won in the end if my troops hadn't routed.

Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I had similar thing with my capitol, but it was shorted and I won the battle, but lost the game. I have lost elephants which had a huge part of my total HP so my mages routed when enemy was almost dead. About 30! mages routed into nowhere when enemy was strorming my castle. I easily killed 600 enemy troops and I could defend my capitol for 10-30 turns, but nah, they decided to run away because few elephants got killed.

Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I don't find elephants very useful, VERY low MR thus easy to kill, and rout easily, but that can be solved if you put some slow high-morale troops with them, but anyway I don't use them they're unpredictable.
By the way I'm testing Mictlan a little, and never used blood bless so far, what does death curse do exactly!? |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
Blood Bless is more or less useless. Sometimes when a B9 blessed unit is killed, the killer is Cursed, as per the level 1 thaumaturgy spell.
|
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
Oh, well that's even worst then air bless, guess I'ma have to change my pretender design now, thanks Endoperez!

Rain of Toads? Rain of Jaguars sounds horrifying.
"OMG Larry, it's raining 300lb jungle cats again!" O.O They should get Rain of Anacondas. Machaka could get Rain of Spiders, ewwwwww..... And of course, Lanka could have Rain of Sumatran Rat Monkeys. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
Fire 9 is a mast have bless for Mictlan, that is obvious, but I wouldn't go as far as B9, I thought death curse was something a little more powerful but as Endroperez told me it just curses you if you kill the sacred unit, so that lousy.
But the real question is do you take F9 W9 and blood4 with bad scales, or do you take F9 and a little blood or water and take stronger dominion and income scales??? I hate making pretenders, I'm starting a new game with Mictlan and I've made 3 pretenders and just can't choose one, and I know either way I'm gonna regret taking the one I'll take!!! Decisions decisions... |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I believe death curse also has a slight chance of a weak horror mark.
|
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
F9 W9 N6-9
or F9 S9 W9 |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
True, F9 W9 S9 is a very good bless but not really for everyone just for experienced players.
With that strategy you shouldn't have too much dominion but you have to be careful not to be dominion killed. And I don't think I'd ever go with nature either 6 or 9, regeneration is nice but 3-4 HP per turn well... I think that's only for giants, however berserk now that something, I'd rather go with N9 then S9 for bless but in the long run S9 is more useful ( wish and arcain nexus ) , but then again it all depends on your overall strategy. |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
Hey, I am playing Mictlan too! I am using a Smoking Mirror with F9W4S4D3B4, and it is working for me both for blesses and magic diversity - I maybe regret not having taken another point in astral, as now I don't have a very easy access to Astral Corruption
Rain of Jaguars - I was in love with it in early game ^^ quite easy to cast, it's exactly like pride of lions, costs the same amount of N gems, but jaguars, while having 1hitpoint less, are SACRED! So they strongly benefit from the blesses I took for the Jaguar Warriors. And it's damn thematic. I mean, enemies trying to rout after an heavy impact with my Jaguar Warriors, being surrounded and devoured by fierce jaguars from the deep jungle... wowowz ^^ |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I wouldn't really have much use of magic diversity, small map and difficult research, high bless is the best tactic...
I shouldn't have taken Mictlan... and as I see I'm filling this thread with nonsense so I'm going to stop the Mictlan talk. However if you have any suggestions regarding small map with hard research and very experienced players bless strategy please PM, cause I'm lost. Please ignore me... it's been raining whole day and I'm bored http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif |
Re: Painful Experiences from Battle Turn Limits
I always felt that the turn limit represented the fact that the defender owns the province, so when the attacker fails in a tactical strike to kill the defender's armies, the defender rallies the peasants and smashes anyone remaining in the province.
That being said, my most unfortunate turn limit battle involved a 200 marble warrior army backed by Will of the Fates cast by that one artifact sword. I slaughtered hundreds without taking any losses, but not enough before the limit ran out and I lost an army worth hundreds of gems. |
