Don\'t play Dom3 after 2 martinis.....

Seriously.....I go to move armies only to find I've already moved them. It's rather confusing. Futhermore, I posted on one thread while thinking I was posting on another....thankfully, the post I placed applied to both.

Well hot damn. We should start a "PBEM strategy gaming and hard cider appreciation" club. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

I too love Cider, although it is hard to find good ones in the US. At least in Texas. We don't grow apple trees down here.

I myself find it hard to do turns correctly after a bottle of Tequila. I usually wait until the next night. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

This calls for: SCIENCE!

If two martinis cause a problem, will one? What about three? Not to mention four? Does the type of wine matter? The amount? The shape of the glass? How about brandy, or cognac? Does the age of the fluid affect the outcome? How about the age of the subject? Does it matter which nation you play? Are certain nations more or less affected than others? How about pretenders?

There's a lot of open questions, so this calls for some serious experimentation.

Hahaha. Oh god, we're going to need a lot of booze to run a thorough sample on that one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

I move that the first meeting of the PSB&HCA club have dues of $30 to go towards the purchase of a keg of fine cider. A wise purchase which we will not fully realize until we have drunk all said cider, and see how much money we saved by buying in bulk!

I find that, like with darts, two pints of Guiness improves Dominions play. After that, it's all downhill.

I'm totally willing to play a dominions drinking game. Maybe you take a shot every time barbarians attack?

I hate to ask a serious question amongst so much fun, but what is “hard cider?” I had to switch away from beer due to a recently discovered allergy to barely. I just thought hang overs were bad, but it turns out there was more to it than that… Anyway, I am new to cider, so please enlighten me, what is “hard cider.”

And just to prevent this thread from being moved as off topic, let me also ask if hard cider will boost my dominion when I am playing as Pangaea?

Hard cider is basically fermented cider.

Freeze it and get Apple Jack.

Personally my undoer is a drink called Four Horsemen. Especially on Jams Night. After one I think I can play drums like I did in my youth, after two I think I can sing, and after three I think I can walk home if I do it very carefully. I havent tried playing Dominions.

However, I have noticed when Im sick that various cold medicines switch my Dominions play from stealth-and-guerilla strategy to a berserk barbarian horde tactic.

Aaaa! Are you trying to kill me?

That's almost as bad as the Leprecaun game that involves watching the movie Leprecaun and every time time you ask a question, you drink. Common questions are "why are we watching this crao movue?" and "Why would someone do that?" and "What the hell, man? That makes no sense!"

All I can say about those Leprechaun movies is that's what the little bastards *get* for stealing his lucky charms.

My drink of death-er choice-is Sangria. There's a brand out here that's made using blood oranges. Absolutely delicious.

I'm also fond of mango rum, and chocolate stouts.

Wow... I haven't tried half the drinks your talking about, but coming from Serbia I drink - Rakija - you can't really translate it, it's a home made serbian drink that is strong as Vodka, and thats another good drink, besides Vinjak also very very good.
Who drinks Vinjak never grows old, they old die young http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

By preference, I always drink vodka straight, when I'm eating raw oysters. They go well together, and the vodka wipes out any harmful bacteria that might be present.

I find a glass of red always softens the blow when I open a turn file from MP game and find that yet another battlefield strategy is a complete failure. I find a second glass ensures that I don't bother to test the next "super" strategy in SP before sending in my next turn http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

My mother's pregnancy with my significantly younger brother was masked by that stuff whilst on holiday in Serbia. Morning sickness was mistaken for a growing aversion to slivovitz served with breakfast.
My brother turned out alright despite the mild pickling. He is gainfully employed, gregarious, occasionally unnecessarily secretive and as stubborn as a bloody mule.

Yeah... something like that, but it has quite a kick, it has something of a later reaction on you, you drink a couple think hey this ain't that strong but it catches up to you and just hits you in your legs and man that ain't pretty!!!

Trust me, my grandmother's brandy has plenty kick. The sugar and cherry flavor disguises it very well, though.

Executor July 9th, 2008 10:11 PM

Re: Don\'t play Dom3 after 2 martinis.....

I guess your grandma's brandy is very similar to vinjak, but vinjak isn't very sugarish. And that the problem with too sugary drinks you never see it coming it knocks you out real good.

Rogue makes a fine Imperial stout. It is only available on US west coast though, mostly in Oregon. North Coast brewery in northern California makes a good one too, and it is available across the US, but very pricey and only found in the best stores.

It seems like a fun drink, especially around the holidays. Like drenable fruit-cake. I'm pretty far west, if not that close to Oregon, so maybe I can come across some.

Lingchih July 10th, 2008 01:38 AM

Re: Don\'t play Dom3 after 2 martinis.....

Yes, it's extremely strong. Anywhere from 9% alcohol for the North Coast one, to 11% alcohol for the Rogue brew. Definitely a celebration beer.

I think Sammy Smith's Imperial Stout gets distributed all over. (I've seen it in MD, IN, IL and ID). It's worth a try.

I know Bell's out of Kalamazoo makes a fantastic chocolate stout, but I don't know if they have an imperial.

I find absinth extremely strong from 70% - 95% alcohol, correct me if I'm wrong but I actually think it's baned in US, and It's pretty easy to come by around here.

My drink of choice is "Amarula"... it´s made from an african fruit called "Marula" know as "The Elephant Tree" as elephants love to eat it and gets them drunk... (can you imagine a drunk elephant?)

Anyway, it´s a very sweet drink, and i find it perfect with hot chocolate or even pure...

Pretty sure I read it's more in the 60%-70% range, can't recall. But the reason it is banned is because Uncle Sam doesn't think we should recreationally ingest Artemisia. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif We're only allowed alcohol itself, and the wise Puritans among us even tried to take that away, so we shot some of them. >.>

And they say US is the greatest place in the world, you can go to war with 18, but you can't order a drink until your 21, that ain't OK.

Believe you me Jim, I drank 90% alcohol absinth, you have a feeling like your puring flames down your throat!!!

I'm pleased to see that my drunken antics have flourished into a grand post about drunken antics all over the world.

The best day of my life I (US Citizen - Texas) was in Germany (forget which city now), and I saw a kid who couldn't have been out of high school (heck, looked like he was 12) carrying a sixer out of the local market.

Now THAT is how to handle booze distribution.

Maybe you should go to Germany for the Octobar beer fest, or come to Serbia to Exit ( google it up if you haven't heard yet ), it started these days.
And hey I'm 17 and you wouldn't believe what drinks I had so far...

Cor2 July 10th, 2008 08:45 PM

Re: Don\'t play Dom3 after 2 martinis.....

I made my own absinth, its fairly easy. Just buy wormwood and add it to everclear or other PGA and let it soak for a few months.

The problem is that it tastes horrible. We ended up doing a two story funnel the night I broke it out, and since no one would drink the absinth we secretly poured it in the funnel. Nobdy could taset it mixed with 4-6 beers. Much drunkeness ensued.

It's actually much tougher to play stoned than drunk.

Re: Don\'t play Dom3 after 2 martinis.....

The distillation of absinthe first produces a colorless distillate that leaves the alembic at around 72 percent ABV (144 proof).
