Things I would like changed
Hi, I would love it if there an counter for each spell, for example darkness/ light. think of the fun as mages reach for the light switch, off, on, off. At this present time the only counter for darkness is to burn everyone's eyes out. Also i would like it if there was a lot more magic trinkets that duplicated minor spells. Well thats it for now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Bwaha

Re: Things I would like changed
I would, but my computer skills are sadly lacking. Is there a tutorial or walkthru for this? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Bwaha
ps, I would like it if only positive suggestions were posted on this thread. Please no complaints or slurs. Thanks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Bwaha |
Re: Things I would like changed
There is a modding manual in the doc directory of the game.
In the mods subforum here there are manuals for the stuff that has entered the game since its release (quite abit in the modding area). Downloading and reading some mods is the probably the best tutorial. |
Re: Things I would like changed
Okay, I found it, Wow, looks like I will be rather busy for quite some time. Thanks Gandalf. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif Bwaha
ps. To keep my mod simple and fair, I will post the thoughts that I have. If any seem unfair or game breaking, please let me know. Thanks, Bwaha |

Re: Things I would like changed
You can also take a look at the UORMM manual linked from my sig. Come the next patch, that will become the official modding manual.

Re: Things I would like changed
Make 50% of the fights occur at night.
Make there a Daylight spell. Give some units 'light sensitivity' |
Re: Things I would like changed
You can't do those things.

Re: Things I would like changed
Hi, one more suggestion. make spells tradable. After looking at the mods I think i need to consult with some buddys for some basic training in computers. Or better yet how about a product like "Domonions3 for Dummies". I would buy such book. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif Bwaha

Re: Things I would like changed
Go for it.
Dominions 3 for Dummies would have to be written by a player. Personally with the free sites on the net for doing things like publishing books and disks for sale, Im surprised none have showed up. A good AAR as a combination story, and tutorial. Or a CD with a collection of the best maps and mods and player-created documentation. |
Re: Things I would like changed
Well they couldn't sell a CD with maps and mods.
Or rather they could but people would be pissed off about it if they found out. |
Re: Things I would like changed
Well I didnt mean to automatically imply that they wouldnt ask. Its just that such compilations are fairly common, and can be helpful to people getting into the game years after its release. A CD with someones /maps and /mods and /doc directories already fully installed might be nice.

Re: Things I would like changed
Yeah, I really dislike that spells aren't learned by wizards, they are known by nations.
Would be cool if wizards learned spells - and then could teach them to other wizards, as a separate action. |

But what if that mage had a certain rare random, and you didn't get another before he died of old age? And poof, bye bye spell. Also, late game would suck, training mages 10 provinces away from your capital, where all of your scholars are. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif |

I like this the way it is, tnx ^_^

Re: Things I would like changed
I've been playing the new patch for awhile now, and it might just be my games, (sp) but the sea races don't appear to be expanding onto land very much expecially Ryah in the EA. Also I would like to see the AI players use bemeths in large numbers, in fact I very seldom have seen them use them at all. other then that the game is fun to play.
I've played on several maps including the multi player one and the sea races have remained in the water... Could it be just that particular map?? |
Re: Things I would like changed
A way this could work, somewhat, would be if mages could be linked individually to spells that only they themselves could cast. So that when the nation as a whole researches say Thaumaturgy 6, your specific mage type (sorceress Suzie, let's say) gains a special spell that only unique sorceress Suzie can cast, above and beyond what generic mage Bob and all the other generic mages can cast, even if they have the same paths as Suzie. It would be sortof like weapons, where you assign general units an axe, for instance, but you assign a hero a special, unique axe that nobody else gets-except this axe only appears when a certain research prerequisite (which could still be 0) has been met.

I would get crazy staying behind that ^_^

Re: Things I would like changed
Ability to transform Earth gems to resources.
Riches from Beneath as a dome-like spell that lasts for a number of turns, Alchemy option for transforming Earth gems into resources or a spell that takes, say, 20 Earth gems and gives the province in question 600 extra resources for next turn (unused resources are wasted). 30 resources per Earth gem is a hefty amount, but you also need to spend some money for the spell to be of any use. I'm not sure how it'd work, but I think the spell would only give 300 resources in non-castled province. Still enough to recruit dozen indy heavy infantries or a handful of knights. I like the last option most. It'd have to be an early spell, perhaps in Construction or Alteration. Construction 3 would be nice boost to MA Ulm in an early game: it'd basically drain their whole Earth gem reserve for two dozen heavy infantries or about 10 knights, and it would be useful in late game if an army was hit by Acid Rain and its armor destroyed. |
Re: Things I would like changed
One other thing that I would like is "road building". What it would allow your troops to move thru forests/ hills without penalty. One sexier version would be called "infrastructure" that would do the same and increase the production/ money of the province. These spells would be national, based on the roman influence of the races that could cast it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif Bwaha

Re: Things I would like changed
Dom:PPP Pythium had a special ability that allowed its troops to move farther than other nations' troops. I don't remember how movement worked back then; it might have been mapmove 1 for infantry and mapmove 2 for mounted units. Pythium built roads, and I think their armies could move one province farther than other nations.
DomII replaced that mechanic with unit-spesific mapmove value. |
Re: Things I would like changed
All flyers and Pythium units had move 3, everything else mobile had move 2. The only terrain types were land and water, with water move capped at 1.
