What do you consider acceptable PBEM turnaround?

What do you ,players of WinSPMBT ,consider to be an acceptable amount of time to play your turn?

I'll use my current PBEM as an example. I get a turn from my opponent, I play it, I send it back. This might take half a day tops, and usually is much faster. Now my opponent usually takes about 5 days to get back to me.

Do you consider that a long time? Why is a 20-30 min turn taking 5 days on average? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

So what are you folks getting for turnaround time?
And what is acceptable to you? What do you consider too much?

The games I play are usually small to medium in order to keep turn time short as possible.

Whenever I PBEM, I use a preferences document that I have saved on my PC. I send it to my opponent to agree with or adjust, so we're both 'on the same page'.

It includes things like:

Points:
Visibility:
All realism preferences ON (settings at 100%)
Fast artillery: OFF
Map Size:
Max. 15% artillery
Onboard arty only (unless otherwise agree)
No assigning artillery until your first move turn
No choosing allies or captured equipment without agreement

I also include:
Turns: 25 (About 7 to 10 turns per week)

I find most opponents average about 7 turns a week.

Personally, I couldn't fight a battle with 5 days between turns, I'd lose the plot. It could be your opponent has taken on too many games. Have you asked him why the slow response?

Two days. (Which incidentally is the time defined by lawyers as 'reasonable response time for e-mail correspondence) Three days if life interferes.

There is such a thing as real life, and after spending nine to ten hours developing software, there are simply times when I don't want to do anything else on the PC.

At least once per day (depending on the time zone this could go up to three turns per day).

Three turns per week (average; so it's okay if it's less now and again).

No , I figure he's doing them as fast as he wants to. There's no point in me trying to rush him, even if it is annoying to me.

Real life is often used as an excuse when people don't feel like doing something. Doing the turns is either important or it isn't. I mean if one's real life is that hectic, and there's little time for anything else. Why get involved in anything else? One's plate is allready full.

Two days sounds like a reasonable max to me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Till mid September I have all the time in the world, so I can play several turns per day without a problem. In fact winSPMBT is the only game I play now, together with online Renegade, though I do have thousands of games.
After mid September, I will be able to play at least one turn per day, some days more, but not as many as now.

I have 4 running PBEM games, 5 my max so far, and one of them sends a turn every couple of days, one every day one turn, one 1-3 turns per day and the last one 1-5 turns per day. All acceptable of course. If the opponent doesn't have the time I can accept playing only one turn every 3-4 days, but if it goes even more than that, I might have an issue playing with him/her again since by that time I will have problem remembering everything about the game in progress.

I think I might have trouble keeping up to three or more turns per day. But on the other hand I haven't played a turn in my current game for about 6 days now. Each day I get no turns in my email. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Me, I have 3 Campaigns and 1 Scenario going I try to shoot for 1 turn a day, occasionally other things come up. If I know I'm not going to be sending turns out, especially over several days, I'll send an email out to that effect. I think most people do try to get the turns out, me I'd rather see well-done turns than rushed. IMHO

How are those PBEM campaigns working out? Is it basically like playing an AI campaign, except its not the AI?

As far as turns being well done, thats a big reason I try to keep unit counts down at all costs in a PBEM. If your dealing with huge armies on the largest maps, it's expected that it will take much longer to process.

The game I'm currently waiting for is small. France (me) vs Netherlands 2008 It's a 100 H X 120 W map, but we only get 5700 points each and 2 air. So theres not an excess of units on the map. Turns are quick. Shouldn't take a week to get a single turn done.

I have also played a few opponents (who I won't mention) that completely forget about an ongoing game, and it never gets finished. The last such game I was doing pretty good in too, then boom nothing.

Love PBEM campaigns. There's one or two minor bugs to work out, but I don't think I'll play any other way.

As for unfinished games, try The Blitz wargaming club. If someone does disapear, you get to chalk up a win, and your opponent gets a loss. You can see how many games and how often your opponent has played, and their win percentage etc. If you play a regular member, unfinished games are very rare...

Seconded. The Blitz is a very good site for finding PBEM opponents. You also have the option to set your 'availability' and number of concurrent games, so others know what to expect in terms of turns per day. (Or days per turn, I still say one or two days is perfectly normal)
