The New Fangled Avatar Factory & Bar
 

Hello Everyone,

It appears that there would be some interest in my churning out some new 'larger' Avatars for this well loved Community. I'll make a bunch of my own choosing, but if you have a request (or better yet, a link to an image you would like me to run through my factory) just drop a post in this thread.

This is gonna be fun, buckle down the barrels of brew and you'll find extra fluffy pillows and padding in the overhead compartments.

Please do not pull the handle clearly marked "DO NOT PULL" in big bold letters. (that will cause the factory to do an emergency stop, and we do not want that to happen.. last time it took ages to get the machine running again.)

How about a slightly anamorphic, very hard-bitten badger wearing a ww2 general's helmet? Maybe (or not) with a short spike on top. Think 'Patton' as a badger.

I've added 9 of those to the stock avatar gallery (sorry I just couldn't see the footbath being used by many people, lol).

lol, good decision Mindi,.. the footbath was a joke, based on the post in the other thread. I couldn't resist, and if JimMorrison wants to adopt it as his avatar, that's his choice, LOL

Well, here's a badger, a german spiked helm and a general's star on the front.. It's as close as I'm gonna get working my montage magic..

I would seriously consider using the Footbath avatar if it didn't have the text on it. :p At least for awhile anyway. ;)

We could get a great batch of avatars by giving DG the link to the Dominions sprite library :)

What can you do with this one David? You have artistic license if you see fit to modify it but I like the theme. That is my Nuclear Duck avatar I made for myself at another forum.

Holy ****, you really ARE working wonders! :shock:

You know, back in high school, we had a program to work with called the WinAli Assembler to learn the Assembler language. In one of my good days I modified the program to include new text, buttons and background images with a resource editor, then uploaded it to all the lab computers the day before summer vacation. I went for a mock Duke Nukem 3D style. The program icon to launch the program was an atomic cloud picture, which I got from the then-popular WinNuke program, with Muhammad Ali in front (hence WinAli). The picture of yours reminds me very much of that, it looks pretty much exactly like it.

That sounds like a permissions problem. In the testing phase my avatar would not show no matter what I tried. Talk to Mindi about it.

I noticed that the dancing lizard is showing up as your profile pic. The profile picture and the avatar are two separate things. The profile pic is changed with "Edit Profile Picture" the avatar can be changed in "Edit Avatar" which shows up under "Settings & Options" in your User CP. You may already be aware of this and it may be some kind of permissions issue (as Edi suggested), but I thought it would be worth mentioning just in case.

I should probably fix mine since I violate the concept of avatar by using my own image. I should leave my profile pic as me, and choose an avatar pic.

Id prefer a Lord of the Wild with my head, and surrounded by (the old) Maenads.
Or Id love one of the classic portraits of a Satyr with Nymphs and my head photoshopped in as the Satyr but of course we couldnt use that here.:censor: :)

Jim,
Try this:
Right click on the image that DG posted and select "Save Image As" and save it to your desktop. Then go into your User CP and into the Edit Avatar section. Select the "Use Custom Avatar" option button and then hit the "Browse" button. Navigate to your desktop and select the image that you saved there previously. Then click on "Save Changes".

Tried that already, more than once. According to my Paint program, atleast, it's just a picture of Shrapnel's banner. I'll try putting it into my Avatar set up though, to see if Paint's just masking it.

I just got into your account and changed it through an admin tool. All you have to do is click browse, find the picture on your computer and then hit save. I can't figure out what you were doing that wasn't allowing you to change it. :confused:

Here's an Idea,.. if you got a paint program that can do the following..

1) Load a .png image with alpha channel
2) Crop and/or resize an image (to 64x64 size)
3) Overlay a .png on the resized/cropped 64x64 image
4) Save As.. .gif (with optimized pallet & set color RGB 255,0,255 to transparent)

Then using this Template..

You too can make a custom Avatar. Try if if you can and see if it works. Be sure to post your results here so we can all see. If you want to make a 'batch' of avatars and post them here, Mindi can decide if they are worthy of being moved to the default selection of avatars.

Ahh, but that part we figured out.....we were having a debate of which kind of kitty, lol. I know it's not the fluffy type that is in our house...although their claws sometimes feel like it...and we were uncertain as a couple different ones seem possible. Maybe we should just go with kitty...meow.
