New Feature: FlashChat

Shrapnel Games now has a chat feature for the community. This feature can be accessed through the quick links tab on the toolbar. Please understand that this kind of feature cannot be constantly monitored, so please remember that our forum rules apply in chat as well. If you violate the rules in chat, you may be banned from using that feature. If the chat feature becomes a resource for trolls and user fighting, we will have to disable it's use, so please play nice.;)

Excellent. I see that they can create their own room.
Such as "BlitzGame One" :hint:

AND it supports IRC commands

It's on our server :).

If your asking about the irc part of it we actually don't expose it on a port, you have to do it throuh the flaschat UI. There is a way to do that but it's a real resource drain to run flashchat in socket mode.

Re: New Feature: FlashChat

That's just what I wondering. I leave my computer on most all of the time and was thinking that if I could access the room using Chatzilla I would be willing to leave a log running even while I was sleeping. Not that I'm saying we will ever need to use such a log. However, if you knew me in person you would know I always err on the side of caution. I figure you all have already considered this anyway but I didn't see how it would hurt to offer.:)

Flashchat has options. ;)

Re: New Feature: FlashChat

Ah ok I see now. One more question, can I ban people? Not that I really want to I'm asking because in the process of exploring the options listed one of them given was "ban". I don't think Richard would have been happy with me had I tried to test it. So I resisted the urge.:p

That button sure is shiny. :D
Remember what happened with the evil zoom button Shang. :nono:

Re: New Feature: FlashChat

Banning by moderators should only be done in case of extreme behavior when a admin cannot be located, followed by a message in the Moderator forum of what you did, why and preferable cut and paste the offending passage. Like I said, Flashchat has options.......but it's best you have your bases covered.

Re: New Feature: FlashChat

I've put up some additional instructions for the moderators in the moderator forum, just an FYI. ;)

I'm still having nightmares from that one!

Nice idea, but I don't think that this will replace the IRC channel for things concerning Dom3. It might be a good place to hook up with somebody on this forum that you want to talk with, though, to be able to meet each other in there.

For those that really struggled to find this Flashchat thing like I did, which is hidden away and not as visible as other things in the top bar: You can access the chat by clicking on "Quick Links", then "Flashchat" which is the fifth link from the top or so.

Which was listed in my first post.;)

Its nice to have an alternative.
Some people have not been all that thrilled with our present Dominions 3 IRC channel.

Re: New Feature: FlashChat

The biggest hurdle is usually that they have to install an IRC client if they're not using IRC already - which in general is very advisable to get in touch with others, be it for development, support or leisure. On the other hand, that's a boon, too, because everybody can pick the client that HE likes.

I'm with the crowd that says that Flash is an abomination which never should play the role for things like online videos etc. like it does today. Die die die! Unfortunately, there are no real easy to setup alternatives at the moment. :(

Re: New Feature: FlashChat

True enough.
But I was referring to the IRC crowd itself. Ive sent many people to it and in general it seems that few like it there. Maybe this will create a place with a different feel to it.
