Map retrieval...possible? And...
Please excuse the possibility that I’ve missed something in the guide, and that I’m finding my way with the game, but…
How do you save/retrieve a map once the (Long Campaign) scenario has started? Brilliant map and would like to revisit it with an alternative core. (I have the CD version.) Core Command question. I’ve got a grasp of the need and benefit of FOO’s, but what effect (if any) is there having Artillery under the command of a company commander who has a low Command rating (not Rally) for Artillery? Having a small core force makes pushing the budget to include a CO unit for Artillery necessary for my retentive nature but maybe not a significant benefit to my stretched initial core? Core Companies question. Preferring core’s around 40 units am I penalising myself by having 7 or 8 mini-companies within this? On large maps I’d found C&C/rallying wasn’t happening. So for example, now have a standard 2 AC companies with 3 AC’s in each. Gamey, and/or a common tactic amongst other players? Thanks for any assistance folks. |

2) Low arty command will affect any arty skill rolls of any of his commanded guns that are nearby, and really only when firing in direct fire modes. It will affect his call for indirect fires times (or time for anyone to call him, if he happens to be an indirect arty piece himself), and skill in spotting the fall of indirect fires if he is acting as a spotter. 3)There is no charge in points for HQ units in this game, unlike tabletop wargames. So lots of little 2 unit "platoons" and wee companies is great in SP - less subunits to rally. Provided you keep in C&C range (5 hexes, can be 10 if in LOS or lucky, or if in radio contact). Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
If you know the region you can regenerate maps like it however With a bit of work you can save the map once a game is in progress
-Copy the save game to the temp folder in scenarios. -Find and empty sceanrio slot. -Rename the save game to a scenario using the correct naming procedure sceanrios use and change both the DAT and CMT file - Load the new "scenario" - go to preferences and turn the ID tags and the objective flags buttons OFF ( most important ) - Go back to the editor and delete as many troops as you can for both players. -Now press EDIT under "Maps" - Save the map then when saved, exit the editor - turn the ID tags and the objective flags buttons ON -Start a regular battle and set the map type to CUSTOM - when the map screen appears load your map. You *MAY* see phantom ID tags from old troops. Buying all the new ones should clear these out and away you go Don ` |

Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
I've run up against a corrupted Save file. How do i forward the file? Tried attatching but i get an invalid file type message. (The file: SpSv024.dat)
Is this the right area to report the bug  thanks Jon |
Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
A corrupted save file isn't a "bug" it's a corrupted save file. Thats at your end not the game otherwise everybody would be reporting this.
Attached files need to be zipped up but there is nothing we can do with a corrupted save file anyway. What indicator do you have that it is corrupted ? Have you been renaming files to get the map ? ( that should only be done with copies of the original game files ) Don ` |
Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
Don,
Sorry, I'm using the word corrupted loosely. The save just crashes on loading. No renaming files involved. Though... On reflection....when loading a saved map to a campaign scenario do i need to change the location code of the map*? The save is at a deployment phase, the location isn't the same as the saved map's. The map works ok when loaded for an independent battle, the core progresses under different reloads from the previous end scenario save. Just not the desired combination. apologies for my confusion Jon *not sure how? |

Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
i've had that happen too in both spww2 and MBT, i find it happen's more in ww2 though.
so far only in generated campaign and generated maps it has crashed.dosin't happen too oftem to me though |
Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
If you get a save that crashes over and over even after a reboot then post it and we'll look at it. If you do post it we need as much info about it as possible.

Re: Map retrieval...possible? And...
Thanks Don,
The Map was just a previously saved randomly generated one. Saved without any retrieval(as above). Moved on, haven't encountered the problem since ie. haven't attempted to play presaved maps. Seperately, I do frequently get an error message 'WinSpww2 has encountered a problem and needs to close....etc' though have found that if i ignore the message ie. don't hit 'close' I can continue without an apparent problem. A logistics/historical question: The 32cm Wurfgerat. How common was it and where was it deployed? In terms of game play...permanent smoke! Very useful. Thanks again Jon |
