Sound Mod for SPWW2 - Update Released

Cross Sounds 0.8 – Released Sept 2008

You can read more about it here:

http://www.theblitz.org/message_boar....php?tid=48897

This mod only changes the wav files (actual sounds), so can be installed mid-battle with no PBEM, security or OOB problems.

However, this mod is not endorsed or supported by Shrapnel Games or The Camo Workshop. Here's their advisory on mods:

"This mod contains highly altered or additional files that may or will cause interference with the master game files and it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that this mod be installed and played ONLY in a separate copy of the game and NOT run from the master game"

It replaces 78% or 118 of the original 152 sounds.

Some replacements are very similar to the original but much better quality; others are more realistic.

There's a few original sounds that I think are excellent quality, so I haven't bothered replacing them... There's also a few sounds I haven't identified, so I've left these alone for now.

I wish I had recorded them, then I would offer them to SPCamo as possible updates for the game.

Most of the sounds are freely available on the web. Then I often made changes like:

Adjusting the length of the sound
Fading the sound in, and or fading the sound out
Removing background noise/hiss
Adjusting the sound level
Adjusting the speed/tempo or tone

Occasionally I'd create a sound from multiple sounds, by mixing them together.

If anyone is interested in goofing around with sounds, I highly recommend 'Audacity'. A very powerful audio editor and recorder. You can download it here:

Screams are a bit 'first-person shooter' but if that's what you want...

Original vehicle explosion CLICK HERE

'Cross Sounds' vehicle explosion CLICK HERE

'Screams' vehicle explosion CLICK HERE

:angel

If you want to use the 'Screams' vehicle explosion, right click on the following quality WAV file link (not the above poor quality quick link MP3) and SAVE TARGET AS... 4.wav

CLICK HERE for the quality screams WAV file

Then paste the 4.wav file into your sounds folder.

Great job again, MC sounds are very nice and stand out so far but I'm sure others will too.

Cross,I don't like the shells and bullets bouncing off the hull of armor. What wav. files are the these sounds?

Other than that, the sounds are really good.

Thanks.

The ricochet sounds are:

22
81
82

As far as I know, if a AP shell, HE fragment, MG or rifle bullet hits armour, it could randomly choose any one of these three sounds.

You could revert the ricochets back to the original sounds.

Or, watch this space and I will post some alternatives for you. I do have a couple of splat/thunk type sounds that aren't as whiny as a tradtional ricochet sound.

Ricochet sounds are tough because they can be annoying by nature.

I also wanted them to clearly sound like ricochets because they are an important audio clue in the game. New players in particular are helped when a sound clearly communicates what just occurred.

cheers
Cross

Good day,

Found a problem may or may not be fixable, the 12kg bomb used by Spainish Nationists makes MG sounds.

Hi Bob,

Cross Sounds doesn't change any explosion sounds to MG sounds!

I have to assume that was a pre-existing problem. There are a couple of wrongly assigned sounds in the original game.

Is this an aircraft bomb? Let me know the unit and I will look into it, and I'll let SPCamo know.

Thanks for the feedback though Bob, let me know if you come across anything else.

cheers,
Cross

No - you are re-reporting an error that was already reported some time back, and has been fixed for the next release, I forget if it was code or data - I think just the latter.

Cheers

Thanks Andy

It's certainly caused me to do a double take, because of all the MG's my little stringbags seemed to have sprouted.
