Gauging interest for a mod

If I ever get around to making my mod which basically involves converting Dominions 3 into the Warhammer 40k galaxy, would anyone be interested in me posting it here? I can't make any promises that it wouldn't die like my many other modding ideas, but I feel a bit more motivated for this one, especially considering it's the holidays and I probably won't have anything better to do most days. The first race I'm working on is the Tyranids, then probably Imperial Guard.

Look at Dominions 3000 mod. It is loosely based on Warhammer 40K, has Ulm as Imperium, Insectoids as Tyranids, Orks as...Orks and Commonwealth as Tau or Eldar. Try your hand there.

If it's of high quality, it could be ok, but in all honesty I don't think 40k translates well at all to dom3.

I have zero interest in it if the quality is below par or it's an addon to dom3k or something.

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

Warhammer 40000 may be a good environ for Dominions. It also contains colossal stellar entities revered as Gods, and have powers growing through worship and certain things.

Necrons have their life eating Star Gods, Eldars have their Khaine left alive, which is also a God, Imperium Worships their God Emperor and keep him alive with psyker sacrifices. Orks have their Gork and Mork, Chaos has 4 Gods and one too insane to be followed, only the Tau don't have Gods.

And don't listen to Sombre, nothing wrong with dominions 3000 and it could surely use more nations :D

And if you are saying most of your idea's die it might be better to start with making just a nation (for dom3000 I'd say) than reinventing the whole problem with spacecombat again :D

Haha, I was initially thinking of just making the ground based models and whatnot, just to get a feel for this whole modding thing. Then depending on how thoroughly bored of the mod I was, it would be a whole lot easier to simply expand it into space by adding more units. Although a word of warning, it would revolve around lots of freespawn stuff and summons.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, just that I'm not interested in it or addons for it.

Be careful about "based on". If too much of the content is taken directly from another game then it cannot be listed here (in another game company official forum).

Unless of course you ask permission from Warhammer which has been known to work with some game manufacturers.

Don't ask Games Workshop. That is completely pointless.

GW don't want to be made aware of stuff like this.

Gandalf Parker October 1st, 2008 11:16 AM

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

Well that would suck. Kindof a dead end then. Shrapnel cant just let it ride based on a "they dont want to be made aware". I think Id still ask just on the off chance of getting someone in a good mood.

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

Nope, they are are a big company infested with crazy lawyers.

Anyway, change of subject. Dominions 3000 is a very interesting mod. You should check it out. I'm sure they'd be keen on having another sci-fi-ish nation or two added, and also I'm sure they'd be keen for any contributions or suggestions for the mod so far. Being such a big project I think Aezeal must be spread pretty thin.

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

Well in my relative haste to make the mod playable (since it's not compatible with other nations) I needed to get a number of nations, enough to play a game, very quickly so the depth of some nations is lacking. Also I haven't been able to do much on the graphic side of it since I'm just not a graphics man.

I think a nation created by someone dedicated to it would be great and would have a lot of potential in the dominions 3000 game.

PS llama have you been able to play the later version of the mod, last I remember you couldn't play it due to naming thingies with your silly windows alternative

I'm sick so I'll be in bed for a few days. Gentlemen, if you have ideas for stats of light infantry and alike, please add messages to my turanic mod.

SO far I only did 3 units, edited the starting sites, and not even did anything about putting a picture to the sites as I screwed up and didn't have the IQ to understand if I can make a new site or I am doomed to edit one starting site from scratch. If so, how do I put picture for new starting site? I failed at the manual.

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

On the subject of things inspired by Warhammer 40k: We already have one mod Nation inspired by Nehekhara, and I propose a second! But in *this* case, one inspired by the Necrons, but adapted to the basic Dom3 setting (as in, the Fantasy/History/Mythology basic setting). So, sort of a combination undead/steampunk/high technology/ancient society 'Frankenstein's Monster' kind of Nation. I think that could be an awful lot of fun.

Suggested features: longdead with armour bolted to their skeletons, tomb factories, ancient machines, golems fashioned from dozens of corpses, winged undead units with crossbows, energy beings with the ability to enslave other beings, a very strong focus on Death and Astral, with little or no other magic, commanders that autocast 'Ritual of Returning', undead and unliving units with Regenerate and Heal Self, units that autocast a spell that heals undead (Tomb Spyders), scouts with Fear (Flayed Ones), most units have the 'Mindless', 'Undead', and/or 'Inanimate' tags, with *very* few-and *very* expensive Commanders to lead them-maybe instead of the standard "Tomb Lord", they could be led only by Monoliths, which would be Capital only, and require an enormous amount of Resources to build, requiring the Capital to be more or less shut down, every time you want to build a leader.

2 high-power unique summons: 'Deciever', and 'Nightbringer', with 'Outsider' and 'Void Dragon' Pretender chassis.

Maybe somebody will want to build this themselves, or maybe I'll get to it in a few years :)

Honey make that nation for dominions 3000 PLEASE!!!

HoneyBadger October 9th, 2008 04:34 AM

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

But that's just it, it's specifically not meant to be for Dominions 3000. It's taking a wildly futuristic concept/theme and applying it to the vanilla setting. That and I'm barely able to get any work done on the 50,000 other mods I want to make...And nobody else seems to want to run with any of my ideas.

I wish they would.

I'd love to see a Necronesque Nation for Dom3k, though. Maybe as an evolution of LA Ermor?

Aezeal October 9th, 2008 04:51 AM

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

well start on this then.. you make it for vanilla and I'll convert it too 3k

HoneyBadger, I'll give it a shot. No promises on sprite quality though ;]

Re: Gauging interest for a mod

Read the wiki article on Necrons and come up with some sample sprite ideas, DigitalSin, and we'll talk :) I'm really getting stretched thin here, but I have to say, it does sound like it would be fun to design.
