Scout not able to move.

First time I've seen this, my starting scout in a new SP game has gotten stuck after moving. I'm a year into the game now and it still is unable to move. Is this a magic site effect or something else?

is it an oceanus scout on land?

Re: Scout not able to move.

It's a land scout on land. The arrow won't appear when I click on another province next to it.

And the reason is that this random map is not allowing connection between provinces that obviously should be connected.
There are no mts, water or anything obstructing access to these provinces yet the map wont allow it (8) key.:o

Attach the game data so we can take a look. Sounds wierd.

Re: Scout not able to move.

There is a contrdiction here.

You were able to move the scout into the province, thus it had to have a province connection. Now that connection is lost because you cannot move the scout out.

One possibility is that the map file got corrupted somehow.

Re: Scout not able to move.

I moved the starting scout into an adjacent province. I was unable to move it further (I never tried to move it back the same way) The province was connected to the stating province but NOT connected to any other province.
Sorry I don't have the savegame still. The (8) key shows what provinces are connected, once I tried that I could see that the other ones were not connected.
It was strange though as it never happened before. If I see it happen again I'll post a file.

Re: Scout not able to move.

It sounds like you moved your scout into a dead end province, a fairly common map occurance.

You need to use the "8" key more often. I always have it active.

Re: Scout not able to move.

It was dead end in that sense, but only one of the four provinces surounding it had mountains(or any other obstruction) between it and this province in question. The other provinces adjacent to it were just basic open lands yet the map wasn't allowing access to them. Yes I will be using the 8 key often now to check that.

map filters -> show connections

I set this in EVERY game. it should be default. I don't know why it isn't

I agree. It's so damn useful. And even province names IMHO.

I never use province names. They make the maps too busy.

Ooh yes, no province names for me. Definitely gets too crowded.

Connections are a must though.

I always turn on connections and income boxes.

Re: Scout not able to move.

I find province names interesting for their flavour, and useful to understand immediately what is happening where, when I get random events - battles - talking with other players about borders... a bit of memorizing often occurs when you have the names always in your eyes while you plan/play your turn :)

Re: Scout not able to move.

Making it the default might be good since it would help new players.

But since I rarely use it now I would only want that if it was added as an option. So that people can turn it on/off as a default the way they can with windowed or full-screen mode, the click-sound volume, renaming, indept levels, Hall of Fame size, map settings etc. When I open Dom3 I have over a dozen defaults that I set automatically because I got tired of changing them for every game.

Hi, it could be that the scout isn't activated. You have to have the unit highlighted to issue orders to it.:D
