Hitting dominion 10
I just heard a fellow player tell me that hitting dominion 10 is supposed to bring all sorts of benefits. People living longer, for one.
I've never encountered this. Is there something special in getting ten white candles in a province? |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
I've never heard this either. Could you ask them where they got their information?

Early Age, he's playing T'ien Ch'i. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
It´s more likely that he cast gift of health.
|
Re: Hitting dominion 10
Or, he doesn't realize mages only "age" once per year. Dominion won't effect the aging process. However, Growth and Death scales do affect how commonly old units get afflictions. And there is a global enchantment called Gift of Health that might stop old age afflictions from occurring, and if not it definitely cures them.
|
Re: Hitting dominion 10
It doesnt stop afflictions from occuring, but it does cure them when they do.
In fact, if you have any way to cast it, it´s a good idea not to euthanize any good mage you have which has gone feeble minded, because if they survive to the casting, you might recover them. EDIT: I´m not sure about this, but I think GOH works particularily well with the regeneration intrinsic. However, this could be due to regen. preventing units to die from disease, hence giving gift of health time to remove the status. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
I love GOH. One of my must globals.
I've even had Mind Hunt losers return to normal with GOH up. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
don't tien chi have some national spells which make the years go away or is that just MA?
|
Re: Hitting dominion 10
Thousand years Gingseng. It´s MA only. Sort of like rejuvenation, but less efficient (only 5 years, and costs 8 nature gems, which are more "expensive" than blood slaves).
On one hand, if you have nature magic wizards yet none good enough to cast gift of health, then it can be a saver. On the other, if you *can* cast GoH, then this spell is far less useful, as your old agers wont die anyway. Might be useful to keep an old age SC effective, through. EDIT: there´s also internal alchemy, which is a W2 Sl spell, and is in both middle and late age. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
He doesn't have gift of health cast, and the player in question is absolutely convinced something like this happens when he hits dominion 10.
It may be he's confusing it with something, but it sounds like something one should check out. It's early age T'ien Ch'i. I don't remember if their mages are sacred. /edit Easy enough to check in solo play, but I've been too busy to check it out. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
All of EA TC's mages are sacred.
Nothing "special" happens at Dom10, including old age being removed from sacred mages. Dom10 happens all the time, in face I even start at Dom10 in some builds, and old age is still old age. You said he's fairly new to the game, that's fair enough. Most people are prone to making somewhat bizarre observations early on in learning a game this complex. I know I thought some strange things for awhile myself. :p |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
Right, I'll try to convince him he's seeing things :) Thanks.
I thought it could be something recently added that I've missed. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
It's a good idea to ask, when things like that come up, because it's always possible something like that has been sneaked in. Our devs are devious geniuses with Ninja-like skills! :p
|
Re: Hitting dominion 10
It seemed unlikely to me, frankly, because it gave a huge advantage to dom-tenners, (and they already have an advantage by default), and made spells like gift of health or rejuvenation useless.
Another wild shot: the guy has seen some nature wizards and is confused by the old age postponment effect. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
Hitting Dom 10 in a prov does nothing folks, except set your dom up really tough. Is there any more need to discuss this?
|
Re: Hitting dominion 10
I'm pretty sure the cause of his confusion is the random N/F on TC's masters. He probably had a streak of extra F's when he started the game, now he's lucking out (depending on your opinion) with a bunch of N's, coincidental with his dom hitting 10.
Adept, it might help to explain path effects on old age to this mystery new player. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
It doesn't sound all that far-fetched as a specific benefit to Tien-Chi, though. Considering that they're a Nation associated with immortal heroes, long-lived sages, etc. I could certainly see Kristoffer or Johan putting it in as a funny little quirk...
What Pretender is he using, by the way? |

Other than that I am playing TC in SP right now to play around with some things, and have been over Dom10 for awhile, with no visible effect. So, I can't see them doing it. :p |

Hello there, I am the new player in question.
Now i'm not saying "OMG THIS IS TURE" but rather, please explain why: Mage1 is one of my many mages, aged at 275 (old age 295). Mage2 is mage1 before he was brought, aged at 297 (old age 295). He has done nothing but research in my dom10 home since I made him. I have not cast any spells and only have a sacred bonus of astral 5. Thank you. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
There's a random element to the actual age of a unit. What is displayed on the recruit screen is not the age of the commander you will end up with, but a generic age. I'm not sure if it's a base age, an average, or just another random.
It looks like Peng-zi just got lucky on his age roll. |
Re: Hitting dominion 10
Well, that means all my mages have gotten really lucky...
Is that the only way this could happen? Edit: Just tested, it looks like I was just really lucky with all their starting ages, I swear some of them suffered from old age but doesn't now but I can be mistaken I guess. Thanks again. |
