About battle replays

In a solo game, I have some strange results for a battle that occured in a province with PD + 1 commander (a Golem SC Prophet).

The messages tell me that I lost the battle (and my prophet).
The replay shows :
- my armies (the PD) being routed at some stage during the battle, and they rout indeed as expected
- the prophet does not rout (morale 50) and easily kills all hundreds of ennemy units as an honest SC does.

Nevertheless, the ennemy now has control of the province & my SC has vanished.

Is it a known bug, or an undocumented feature ? :D

It's a feature :)

mindless units can't retreat, and are eliminated if they should have retreated. It's in the manual somewhere.

mostly the issue just comes up w/ Golem SCs :)

Re: About battle replays

I think the issue is more that the battle replay didn't match the battle outcome.

This has been reported before. It's a bit annoying.

If anyone happens to have the files from a preceding turn, so that this bug can be reproduced, it might be a good idea to send them to JK. If this happens to anyone in a LlamaServer game PM me and I'll be able to find the files (LlamaServer has full backups).

Re: About battle replays

But that's not the problem. He's got the battle replay doesn't match results bug.
The replay shows his SC killing off the enemy.

Herode, I assume you mean the replay ends with all the enemy gone, either dead or fled, and your golem still on the field?

Edit: And the Llama says the same thing while I'm typing :)

Re: About battle replays

llamabeast, I've had the same thing happen, very rarely, but it has happened. Once about a week or so ago.

But anyway, how do I save the battle replays to send?

Re: About battle replays

Well the trouble is you have to know it's going to happen. You need all the files from the previous turn - the fthrlnd file, all the trn files (I think) and all the 2h files (definitely). By the time you get the issue, unless you're continually keeping backups then most of those files will have been overwritten.

Thanks.

Door #1:
It doesn't happen very often. I can live with it.

Door#2:
Wow, sounds like a lot of effort.

And the winner is:

Door #1 :sorry:

You got a goat!

Re: About battle replays

Seriously though, no problem, few if any people would keep backups for SP games unless they had an automated system. If anyone notices this problem on a LlamaServer game though, that would be helpful.

Re: About battle replays

My incident also involved a SC.

I had two thugs, one with 2 or 3 hearts, and a borderline thug/SC. In the replay the wounded thug dies and the second retreated like a sissy. The SC then rather quickly forces the opposing army (indies) to flee.

Never figured out why I lost.

The battleground province was completely free of troops and my two units just marched in and claimed it subsequent turn.

Sure. And he has plenty of Hit Points and is having some fun blinking from one point of the battlefield to another point and exterminating the poor last TC survivors... :p

Maybe it's linked. BTW my armies (PD) retreated, not the Golem and his Morale 50. I saw another battle where such thing occured : an army retreating and a berseked SC commander staying on the field, killing the ennemies (these ennemies were... me !) and conquering the province at least. Maybe the fact that the Golem is mindless interferes with this process in some obscure way/bug ?

What's fun (but OT) is that although mindless, my Golem also is (was...) insane :re:

If you are looking for your Golem, he's working for me on 3rd shift. Please send picture, or I might send the wrong one back.:D

I found something strange. It could be helpful, maybe.

Game: Manatee
Server: llamaserver
Mods: no
Settings: default
Player: Nifelheim
Turn: 85
Battle in the province West Midden (61)

Battle replay showed a win of my Niefel Jarl against 3 Rudras and one Siddha of Kailasa, but battle report and after-battle situation proved a win of Kailasa. Yandav, who played Kailasa, confirmed in the game thread the same discrepancy between b. replay and b.report in his turn file.
Now, I found the turn file in my backup and watched the battle again. To my surprise the battle replay showed right result!
I installed back version 3.17 and run the battle again with some mods on and off. The battle result was correct. I can't reproduce the bug, but I'm sure it was there.
I think that the bug is not connected with turn file, but I can be wrong.

I had quite an extreme battle replay bug in Kingmaker some turns ago. Should I get through my backups to find that turn? It should be around 10-20 turns ago. Battle report and replay were completely different.

Re: About battle replays

Maybe, this is a wild stab in the dark;

Your SC, being mindless dies if it has no-one to control him(?) dies after the PD retreated. Since PD re-grows if the provice isn't taken over (and it would only be taken over if there was an enemy left after the battle, which there wouldn't be because the mindless desolves(!?) thus leaving the province in the hands of the original owner.

Now I could be wrong about the mindless thing because i'm very green!

Re: About battle replays

Nope, my Golem has been updraged from standard unit to commander via Gift of reason. Thus, he is a stand alone and is able to survive by himself even if no other friendly mages are on the battlefield. :)

Re: About battle replays

Yeah Zeldor, that would be handy.

Herode:

Nope, Golems just vanish on turn50. And unfortunately Kristoffers considers it a feature, not a bug. Lost some Golem SCs that way few times. Not nice.

llamabeast:

Ok, I will PM you turn number and where battle occured when I find it. See, some good things about you getting eliminated from KM, you can take a look at turns now :)

Re: About battle replays

In every single MP game I have played this comes up when big battles are involved. It is my major problem with this game and some of my friends drop out of the games due to the annoyance they suffer.

The games I am referring to are all on the Llamaserver.

What can be done about this?
