Game 3 Questions
Getting the hang of it, here are some ?'s for the experts.
1. How do I keep other AI from Colonizing Planets in my system 2. Can a Ship Sit on "sentry" forever 3. Whats the easiest way to keep tabs on a system? I have a lot of occupied systems nearby and I want to watch the traffic flow and colonization 4. Large System, 17 AI's, High AI Is it typical to have to squash a few AI opponents early to keep expanding? This is my 3rd war I started in the first 100 turns, I am getting crowded, THX!!!!!! |
Re: Game 3 Questions
1. You need one of the red treaties I bleieve. War, non-intercourse, and non-agression. Otherwise ships can run your blockades being as you consider them a friend.
2. Yes 3. Satellites. Maybe stick some sensors on them and maybe a long range scanner, for added detection, and you have yourself a system watcher. 4. Yeah, sometimes you have to kill your neighbor in the early game for living space. Leibensraum. |
Re: Game 3 Questions
1) Either
- Colonize all the worlds before they do -OR- - Have a treaty of "None", "WAR", "nonagression", or "non interference", and station ships at all the warppoints with orders to destroy any colony ships coming through. If you have boarding parties, you can take the colony ships for research or to colonize more worlds cheaply 2) Yep. Try not to forget about 'em! 3) At the beginning of your turn, you should see the ships traveling through. Otherwise, you can watch the "colonies" screen to see the facilities & production going up. 4) 100 turns, yes. I was playing something similar, acting as a neutral (never leave home system) and I only managed to get to turn 300 before I was forced to attack the second-place AI since my star was about to nova! They are very firmly entrenched around my homesystem. |

Colonize them first. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif If you can't do that, the only thing you can do is avoid making treaties, so you can intercept the colonizers.
quote:
2. Can a Ship Sit on "sentry" forever

Generally, yes. It doesn't use supplies if it doesn't move. The only exception I can think of is that I think an active cloaking device uses supplies while it's on, but I'm not sure of that.
quote:
3. F6 Ships/Orders will list all the ships; if an enemy enters the system, the order will clear. If you want to watch for allies, too, just leave the ship with no orders, and use the Orders list to find the ship when you want to check the system.
quote:
4. Re: Game 3 Questions
Thx, 1 more
I have alot of research points, 2x as many as the next AI. Am I foolish to have trade & research treaties? |
Re: Game 3 Questions
Oh, and how do I stop a riot?

Am I foolish to have trade & research treaties?

depends on if you think you are getting more out of it than them. if you honestly dont need the research points, then downgrade the treaties. keep in mind tho, that if you have research treaties with many AIs, the cumulative result is fairly respectable and may be part of what is boosting your research score that high. certainly drop the treaties after you have achived what you consider to be 'key technologies' so you can kick the ladder down behind you, if you will pardon the expression. ------------------ "...the green, sticky spawn of the stars" (with apologies to H.P.L.) |
Re: Game 3 Questions
Also you might want to keep research treaties with smaller empires as long as they are helping you fight your common enemies that are stronger than they are. They can't help you if they have wimpy weapons. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: Game 3 Questions
I landed 60 Troops and they are still rioting?
|
Re: Game 3 Questions
Here is my little opinion...
1.) To keep the AI from colonizing, station ships at the warp points. Blow the suckers up before they get in the door. If they sneak by, have a detachment ready to take out the colony before they take hold. I reccommend building colony ships ASAP and a few escorts. 2.) Dunno, I typically park-n-forget my sentry ships. 3.) Keep an eye on traffic, take an escort and park it in orbit of something in the system. If a ship isn't moving, then it isn't using supplies. Make sure supplies do not drop below 50%. 4.) Typical! It is a constant problem! Research biological weapons FAST and deploy them against the AI just as fast. Hit thier homeworld and any colonies of the same atmosphere witin the first 25 turns. The rest of the is clean up. ------------------ HADRIAN T.
quote:
Originally posted by Captin:
I landed 60 Troops and they are still rioting?

happyness from troops builds up over time. after a couple turns they should stop. 60 is a pretty decent number, i landed about 150 troops once and the happyness level went from angry straight to jubilant. less troops just take more time, and if they have been rioting for a long time, i think it might take longer to undo. ------------------ "...the green, sticky spawn of the stars" (with apologies to H.P.L.) |
Re: Game 3 Questions
There is a maximum change per turn limit, you know. It's set in the happiness.txt file and I think it's 20 percent for all types. If they had been rioting for a long time they might be well over 100 percent 'unhappiness' and it would take several turns to neutralize this. I'm not sure how high it can go, or now it decides that rioting has progressed far enough to cause a full rebellion.
BTW, one way to make the 'bloodthirsty' happines type useable is to make troops more effective at increasing happiness. Rationale would be that troops inspire 'patriotic' feelings. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Then, the happiness hit from treaties other than war can be controlled by having at least a few troops on all your planets. 1. How do I keep other AI from Colonizing Planets in my system /QUOTE If you want to do this without losing yoru frindly treaties, I suggest allowing them to colonise your space, and then buying the colonies from them using planets you don't need. It's usually quite easy to gt AIs to trade planets. This is a handy way of getting alien populations as well. ------------------ SE4 Code: L GdY $ Fr- C- Sd T!+ Sf-- Tcp-- A% M>M+ MpD! Re: Game 3 Questions
Hehe! Last time I saw a riot on my newly taken planet, I turned around the recently-departed attack fleet with planet-glassing equipment and dropped a homeworlds-conquering-strength army on it... the local people became so happy! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/tongue.gif

Re: Game 3 Questions
Thx again guys.
First of all I picked "Neutral" as a race, and it's biting me in the *** now. 2nd, I have 22 rioting planets in 6 systems, with 2 AI declaring war on me, of which I share systems with both. So I managed to get a UPC in each after the fact. Game Plan: 1. Glass over every enemy planet in sight of the 2 I am war with. 2. Consolidate my borders 3. Make the rounds with a troop transport. 4. Make nice with everyone for awhile |
