Forum Maintenance

This is a kindly worded request to those posting on the board and, perhaps, to the administrators.

Of late, there has been a proliferation of postings which have nothing to do with either SEIV or military and strategic subjects generally. Those threads that are clearly labeled “OT” are not problematic, they clearly state their intentions and are often fun. I am thinking more of the posting of song lyrics, odd word associations and essays upon cultural norms.

These off topic and inappropriate postings have been disturbing me and others. For the first time in months I have seen flames being posted and people complaining that activity is dropping off in the forum.

Thus, I would request that Posts be kept related to the topic of SEIV or military and strategic subjects generally. If you are in doubt of what is appropriate, you should look around the forum and appreciate the culture which has grown up here. Knowing the cultural perspectives of many cultures is useful, but knowing how to fit into the culture you are taking part in is even more important.

Re: Forum Maintenance

I strongly support this. Most people come to this forum in an attempt to get an answer to a game question or to get/give an opinion about the game, it's mods, and/or it's patches. Quite honestly, that is a _lot_ of information to wade through. Having _ALL_ these off topic replies to pertenant threads makes it much harder, and more frustrating, to find the information you want.

Keep in mind, I have no problem with OT threads that are labeled as such. They don't get in the way of people looking for game info (after all, if it says OT, you know not to waste your time looking there for game info). What I have a problem with is when a thread about my favorite mod (for example) becomes inundated with Posts that have nothing to do with the game, much less the mod. So please, please, _PLEASE_ reserve Off Topic Posts for OT threads and stop cluttering up the threads that actually have something to do with the game.

Just my overpriced $0.02 worth.

LCC, that's not the first time I've seen one of your Posts editted by Vampiric Dread. This leads me to believe that either:

A> You and Vamp are one and the same
B> VampD is an administrator
C> VampD has your password and is using it.
D> You have VampD's password
E> You are manually typing the words "This message has been editted by VampiricDread" at the end of your Posts.

Which is it?

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>A, C, and D, though possible, would not cause that to happen. If this other person had LCC's password it would appear that LCC was doing the editing. And if Vamp was using Vamp's password he would not have access to edit a post owned by LCC.

B does not appear to be the case, since Vamp's rank shows up as Colonel, not Advisor.

That leaves E...

You mean the option or the narcotic? Seriously, looking at the structure of his Posts you would appear to be right. Getting back on topic...

Even then he suffered from information overload. Look at early Posts inthis thread for example.

The post below which has 'vampiricdread' doing an edit was a copy/paste from the thread posting which I read at the date given in the canteen forum. Either you people are playing with fire without knowing what you are doing, or you are all in on this joke. I do not know which one is the case but I do intend to find out.

I'm confused. But i guess that was the point...

Assume you have a 1kg squirrel
E=mc^2
E=1kg(3x10^8m/s)^2=9x10^16J
which, if I'm not mistaken, is equivilent to roughly a 50 megaton nuclear bomb.
Fear the squirrel.

So far as YOU go 'geoschmo' I found out about your backdoor in windows word processor long ago when I was typing up a letter on a Windows 2000 ME machine.

geoschmo you had better check your backside for a pair of noids.

Fool me once shame on you.
Fool me twice shame on me.
Fool me three times and somebody is making a fool out of both of us.

I invite anyone anywhere at all to open up the word processor in a windows ME machine and type in the character string 'geoschmo' the string will be replaced by gaucho.

Do you mean to say that you have absolutely no idea at all of what has been going on all these years ??? I thought that this was some kind of test and now you seem to be saying that it is the real thing ? No wonder that nothing I do ends all this nonsense!

Re: Forum Maintenance

Lonnie,

I am not sure where you are coming from, but let me just say a couple of things.

1. There is no joke, we are tired of your bizarre Posts.
2. You are not amusing anyone anymore.
3. We have tried nicely to let you know these points, but you have not heard us.

To put it in real world terms, this is the stage where we throw you out of the bar. The stage where people hang up on your calls. The stage where the girls call their big brother to tell you to back off. The stage where the boss calls you in to give you two weeks notice.

So please, take a big breath, shut down your machine and go for a walk in your neighborhood. Meet some people, make some friends and have a good time.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Forum Maintenance

Fortunatly, the vast majority of people on this forum are following this rule already. There really is only one person who continually seems unable to keep on topic in threads. However the fact that he makes an enormous amount of Posts makes it appear that the problem is worse than it is.

The forum advisors have talked to this individual about it several times. My guess is they are getting just as tired of it as we are.

Perhaps this thread will help the situation. Maybe this individual will finally see how annoying his behavior is and stop it on his own. I remember a time months ago when this individual was a constructive member of our group discussions, instead of a pest throwing up voluminous Posts of gibberish and irrelevant web links.

At the very least this thread will reaffirm to the advisors that the general public here is getting tired of the problem.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I vaguely remember such a time. I distinctly remember wondering back then whether he was having a bad acid flashback or if he had been trapped in his VR program by a malicious virus, unable to communicate with the outside world except by posting virus-mangled pleas for help on this forum. Has anyone checked on him recently? Did he stop taking his medication? Was he seduced by the Dark Side? Did he take one too many hits of Acid? Suffer a brain anurism (I dont know what that is, but it sounds bad! ;P )
