Oh, Perfidious Albion
Well, I just have been betrayed for the first time in this game. I don't want to name this villain. I want to find 10 trustworthy players. People that I can trust in future games. So here's my proposal, you can nominate one person that you have found to be honorable, not yourself. Please don't post negative comments about said people on this thread. You can remove your nominee from the list by contacting me via PM.
1: GrudgeBringer 2: Jim Morrison 3: Gandolf Parker 4: Folket 5: MaxWilson 6: Chris Pedersen 7: Executer 8: PashaDawg 9: Anticipent or if he's truly gone some other sucker. 10: Bwahahaha I have found Gb to be utterly trustworthy so far and would trust him in anything he said. :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Ablion
This thread should go over well...

betrayal of alliances is an integral part of the multiplayer game and attempting to remove it in the name of "honor" only stifles the creativity and chaos that makes this game so much fun. |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Ablion
I was going to go into a big long rant, but suffice to say: This has been done before. Join another game and maybe keep some precautions in case of such a betrayal in future games (I'm assuming Nasser here is the aggressor, and you're so angry about this because it's devastated you, presumably because you had nothing to defend against him; that's quite a few assumptions, which, we all know, make an (synonym for buttocks that is apparently blocked in this forum) out of u and me). I can see being angry, but there's no reason to scream bloody murder and such, in my opinion. This is a bit of an overreaction (not to mention an overreaction that's been beaten to death). There we go, a medium-sized rant instead. :)
If you will, take note that I have not betrayed or been betrayed as of yet (likely due to my sadly lacking MP experience), though I have (accidentally) fudged the dates on quite a few NAPs. :o Also, that's a rather creative title for the thread :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Ablion
K always follows the rules in the games he joins.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Ablion
Doesnt that make an a-- out of u and mptions?
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Ablion
Oh, no you misunderstand. I'm gonna get even, I'm still in the race. What I'm doing is looking for people that show and keep their honor even if it hurts. Those people are rare and I wish to associate with them. (then betray them) Just kidding :D
All my buddy's in the real word are totally trustworthy. I have many acquaintances that I don't fully trust. I watch and observe for a few years before fully trusting someone. This trust that I bestow on people has been broken before and I remove such scum as soon as I can. I just broke a friendship of over 30 years over such a betrayal. I will never talk to this oath breaker again. I don't have many friends, but the ones I do I treasure. I wish to meet new people that think honor is more important than winning a game. People who's word is their bond. Thats all. :D PS. Being a gamer I was suprised that it took this long for my first betrayal. |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Ablion
I suspect the thread title is supposed to be "Oh, Perfidious ALbion". Sorry, spelling is a major pet peeve of mine. I realize that a lot of the people on this forum don't use English as their first language and I am impressed at everyone's use of it, despite the rare error.

Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I trust most regulars in this forum as much as many of my real-world pals, despite never seeing anyone here face-to-face. I would be shocked to lose a game over a broken in-game treaty, but that doesn't mean I couldn't trust the offender outside of games. Of course, being betrayed in the early game for no clear reason is different from launching a surprise attack in late game and thus securing victory. The latter I wouldn't mind as much, I think.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I'd nominate Jim Morrison.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Hey, why pick on the British as examples of betrayers? ;)
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
"the sun never sets on the english empire, because god doesn't trust them in the dark..."
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Oh, this again? It's getting older than the Monkey PD :D
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I would not trust my real life friends if they did not betray me while playing dominions with me :)
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I like how there is only one honorable player on the list.
Nice to know these forums are composed mainly of rogues and scoundrels. No wonder I enjoy them... |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
My family has a phrase "stupidly paladin" to refer to me being honorable even when no one else would be. I play that way in all games when I play as Gandalf Parker. Especially on sites where I have a position such as moderator, admin, wiz, or god.
But I admit that I do have some aliases that act as a release valve when Im in the mood to be evil. Altho it does seem that Im not very good at it. I tend to do better in the honorable games. |

I wish you guys would stop posting negative comments on this thread. It is my intent to find guys that I can trust.
This is slightly OT, did you know that during the Napoleonic wars the French and English used hot air blimps sitting across the channel to insult each others leaders? :D |

In the game, the people I would otherwise in the real world trust completely, I trust not at all. The player who was my bosom ally in the last game, I expect may totally stab me in the back in the next, if it suits his purposes, and I allow it to happen. And I've happily allied with those who have betrayed me in previous games (as long as I'm allying from a position of strength, hold the whip hand, or have guarded against potential betrayal, etc.). Every game is situational. Just remember, everyone wants to win, or at least spite those who are crushing them :) There is, and there should be, no corollary to 'real world' behavior. |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
The computer scientist in me feels compelled to point out that your trust algorithm is fragile. Two dastardly blackguards could collaborate to place each other on your list and then stab you at an opportune time. Instead of asking in public, you ought to be forming private conclusions as to who is trustworthy (in-game, since many people here are trustworthy in real life but view roleplaying an evil pretender as part of the game) and asking them who plays like they do.

And please see the parenthetical, this isn't supposed to be a flame or an attack on your honor, since I think the ToS are a bit silly, I just find the situation to be ironic and hence amusing. |

Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Despite my paranoia, Folket was a completely trustworthy player who kept his word about diplomacy arrangements, the whole time that the game lasted.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Ha, Ha, ha. You guys are funny. I'm going somewhere with this. A truly evil plan. When you see it "play" out I think you will find it amusing. Someone nominate Gandolf please. And other paragons of virtue. Heh... :D Seven to go.
PS. I'm consulting some people about who's considered trustworthy, then looking at their posts to ascertain the truth. I know its flawed but its the best I can do. :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Why am I not on that list BTW? :) I'm trustworthy!
JK on the other hand can only be trusted not to be trusted. He is notorious for attacking his neighbors out of boredom :) |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
KO, you rebel!
You just broke all of Bwaha's rules, first by nominating yourself, and then by disparaging the trustworthiness of your fine colleague. :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
KO is bad news. I don't want to see any of you hanging around with him any more.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
What do you expect from a man with the image of a demon lord as his avatar?
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
BTW the title of this comes from one of Nappy's rants. If I remember correctly it was when England sent Wellington to Spain. It really ticked him off.
One of my buddy's works for the nsa so the verification process won't take too long. Their computers are set up to go thru emails looking for certain profiles. I still need more nominees to vet first. I'm expecting to get the report next week. He owes me several favors and I'm using one for this. :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I don't want to go to Abu Ghraib.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Oh, no Jim, I wouldn't send you there. You see you have been given a form of immunity by being on the list. So don't worry about that. Do you have any nominations for trustworthy people? :D

I did try to convince staff that it helps for moderators to have a login seperate from their playing login. But I was shot down. I still could since I have multiple IPs I can use, and hundreds of accounts. But no, Im afraid that my paladinhood does not allow me to violate the ToS here. |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I nominate Gandalf Parker's alter egos. They are the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human beings I've ever known in my life.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Okay, anyone else? :D
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
You've been skipping a few suggestions. Or is "nominate" the magic word?
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I nominate you never trust lch for that comment.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I'd have nominated myself for not being trustworthy at all earlier, too, if it wouldn't have been against the OP's policy.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Almost there, anyone else? :D
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I had been trying to avoid the cliche'd "nominate you back" situation, but I think Chris Pedersen is a rather well intentioned person.
I would nominate Calahan as well, if he hadn't fallen into the Void (ie- don't list him unless he suddenly reappears). |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Yeah I like both of them as well. I suspect that Callahan has gotten Fallout 3 and will be gone for a while. I'm certain thats what happened to Anticipent. :D
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
For some reason,I get the feeling this whole thing is more...insidious than it seems.Must be the Joker avatar.
Unfortunately, I'm new here, nobody knows me,and I know no one,so I can't be of any help.:angel |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I nominate Bwaha.
He has never lied to me. :p |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Here's a movement I'm totally in favor of. http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/7995
Thanks Illuminated one, I lack the skill set required, I just haven't been revealed yet. :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I believe that most people chose to play these games in one of Three ways.
1. The old D+D RP games that allow you to chose your role from the Evil Mage to the Lawful Good Palidin. And as such they where rewarded for staying 'in role'. Each game played on here they change thier role and stay within it. 2. The totally Honorable player that ALWAYS keeps his word even if it costs him a game that he has been in 4 months. And he keeps it because he wants it known that his word is Golden. This seems to draw other players who have similar views on Naps, Promises, ect and makes them feel comfortable in a game. And believe me they DO remenber who IS and ISN'T keeping his word. 3. They play to the situation and feel that its a kill or be killed game every turn. One turn they will fight with you and the next turn....they are standing on your Pretenders neck. I personally chose the Honorable route as it just makes it easier on me to chose who I play in a game with. THAT being said, I have been known to say at the start of a game that I am going to be ruthless and to beware of me. I think we all have a little of that in us, I just prefer to say it out loud. I am going to nominate 4 players who I have played with and have ALWAYS kept there word. 1. Bwaha 2. Executor 3. PashaDawg 4. Anticipatiant There are more but I have played with these players more than once and would trusst them in any game. (That should round out your list Bwaha) |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I wish to announce the formation of my second thematic game, the mods may move this thread to Mp and AAR. The theme of this game is to elicit the best "Et tu Bruti" rant. The person who does the best betrayal will gain the title of "Blackguard". I know you all have busy lives so I will await till you become available. Last night I was mulling over what to call this game and asked my buddy's what to call this. The reply was quick and pointed, my name. I can't do that so I will leave the title alone. I'm renowned for my treachery in my local gaming group. I propose that the age is middle and the map be the Middle Earth BB. I invite those listed to ponder which races they wish to play. I'm gonna grab Ashod first. Bwahahaha :D
PS. I hope you enjoyed the link on my last post, those gals rock. :D |
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
I wouldnt list my multiple personalities. I do feel that I myself am hopelessly paladin. But one of the reasons I have the others is to play the way I feel that day with none of the expectations associated with "Gandalf Parker". Im afraid that their reputation will have to be earned seperately.
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Boy did I just stick a big red target on my back. I was taking Ashod because my game play isn't that good. Military strategy is a hobby of mine and I'm pretty good at it. Magic is a whole different thing and thats why I keep getting my head handed to me. Oh well live and learn, or more like get slaughtered and learn. :D
|
Re: Oh, Perfidious Albion
Sorry If I offended, Anyway I have to leave town for awhile and won't have time to game. You all have fun and enjoy yourselves. Pulls a pair of daggers. Group hug? Signing off for now. Bwaha. :D
