Regarding Will Christopher, aka Atrocities
 

Hello, My name is Raymond and I am the brother of William Christopher, a.k.a. Atrocities, PCP Atrocities.

Since this is William's PC, it would only recognize him. Unfortunately, I do not have a PC of my own as I gave it to our younger brother some time ago.

As many of you may or may not have known, Will has been has been fighting an illness for sometime now, and yesterday, that illness overwhelmed him. It is with an utter tragic heart that today I have to inform people of this tragedy. It is very unlikely that William will ever post here, or elsewhere ever again.


It was in the event that something like this should happen that he had asked me to notify people, namely people on his forum lists that something had happened.


I know this may be viewed without concern, especially following today’s horrible events, however, William was a part of this community for over a year, and looked upon many of you as friends.

I dont think that the events of the day will lessen anyones thoughts for Atrocities. He always had thoughfull things to say, and offered intelligent, measured, advice. New Age Shipyards is one of the best SE4 fan sites on the net, and Atrocities has done a lot to bring the community here together.

I am sure that everyone's best wishes go out to all those involved.

I don't suppose it's much consolation but you and he can be proud that he earned so much respect in this community.

His contribution will be sorely missed.

I don't know what may be wrong with him, nor do I need to. He is a valued member of this community, with an excellent grasp of many aspects of this game. He has the respect of everyone on this forum, and hopefully we _will_ here from him again. Until then, he has all of our best wishes.

As a frequent lurker in this forum, I've been struck by how much Will really liked being here- he clearly understood the game and wanted to share his passion with others. It may be because I’m in Argentina, far away from the USA and far away from Near East, but this affects me much more than 10,000 dead people in the WTC.

A few days ago, when I made the race directory I realized that he had almost caught up with me in number of shipsets made, leaving John Beech far in third place.
He’s been working in something similar to what I’ve been. I was glad to finally found someone working on Star Trek shipsets as hard as I’ve been working in Star Wars.

I had modded his mods, adding some pictures and reordering others, and was about to email them to him. I guess there’s no need to do that now. Posting them on my site or on this forum now will look as disrespect, like if I wanted to take advantage of this tragedy, so I’ll wait some time.

He used to be a very valuable member of the SE4 community, and I was beginning to regard him as a friend. I wasn’t aware that he was ill. My best wishes go for you and your family.

I do not know Will beyond the forum here, but from his comments I think he would want us to move forward.

Perhaps you could post them along with a nice note honoring all his many contributions to the community.

I've been absent from the forums for a little while, and I know that I don't post all that often, but I've watched much of the forums from lurking.

Will, (Atrocities) I hope that you will pull through.

Andres, I can understand what you mean. It's rather sad, but true. I think Stalin said it best. One death is a tragedy. A (ten?) thousand deaths is a statistic. It's easier to deal and cope with one thing close to you than to deal with something that is so far away and seemingly impersonal and inconcievable.

Regarding Will, he is doing better, this is great news, and we are very happy. I am using his PC to type this post, and given that all of his passwords and security precautions have greatly complicating things, I have successfully notified most of the people he knows.

I apologize for responding so late in this thead, but things have been busy over the Last few days.

I too hope that Atrocities recovers quickly and completely. And I'm very happy and relieved to hear that he's doing better.

This guy is one of the many, outstanding individuals that helps to make the Shrapnel Games Forums, and SE IV in particular, a friendly, helpful, and oh-so-knowlegeable community.

My prayers are with him as well.

Knowing his been fighting this illness gives it a new meaning.

I also apoligize as I have been quite busy since Tuesday and have not been on the Boards
otherwise I too would have answered sooner. Give him my repects and tell him we are all here pulling for him, He will greatly be missed and hopefully he will someday be back.
He was one of the greats on this board and shall be sorely missed by everyone. God bless and I shall keep him in my prayers.

I remember long ago, when the board was fairly young, and there were no generals or colonels to speak of. The maturity and friendlyness of the people on the board was a frequent topic of conversation, as everyone was amazed at what a wonderful community this was.

I recall one person's post, that they keep coming back specificially because of people like Atrocities, and were eager to hear the what each person would next have to say. I wish I could find that post now, but it is long buried in the archives of this forum, and I am not sure what text to search for to retrieve it.

I haven't been here for a few months and I haven't ever been very active, so I suppose William won't remember me. Anyway, I do remember him, and I'm quite sorry to be unable to express this kind of emotions in English (a foreign language from my point of view)...
