PBW: My ships can\'t move
Hi,
I have a weird problem in one of my PBW games: My ships can't move! They have engines and everything, but I think since I've started retrofitting one of them and stopped it the next turn, they don't do anything anymore. (I've tried it with the attack order, now I'm checking the move to order). I'm in war with my neighbour and my ships do nothing! Who has an idea? Gorgo |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
if you retrofitted your engines and have none left, you are dead in space until they can be repaired.
do they say movement 0/0 or 0/6 or 6/6 or what? do they look like a base and not have a moveto order or a movement measurement? ------------------ "...the green, sticky spawn of the stars" (with apologies to H.P.L.) |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
Also, remember that a fleet will only go as fast as it's slowest ship, so if you have fleeted fully working ships with a space station (no movement) or a ship that's mid- retrofit (engines not yet repaired, no movement) then your good ships will be immobile.

Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
I even tried to dissolve the fleet and move every ship on its own. Even the non-retrofitted ships don't move! With the ones I tried to retrofit, they have no repair sign on them, so I supposed they should be ready.

Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
Possibly an intel op, causing one of your ships to lose movement, and thus, halting the entire fleet?
|
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
This happened to a player in one of my games, he had a fleet that just would NOT move, no matter what the order....no real reason. He dissolved the fleet and then made two seperate ones, they moved after that......seems to be a small bug somewhere.....

Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
Gorgo,
Can you tell me what game? This is the second report we have had like this. I am sure it's not PBW, but it could be an SEIV bug. I'd like to take a look at it. Geoschmo |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
Thanks for all your replies!
To Geoschmo: The game is Gorgos First. Would be appreciated if you could have a look at it! This is a game where no player uses any intelligence until the next patch (by agreement). The game is standard 1.41, so no special movement modding is involved. Some of the ships had a movement of 6/6, some 0/6 (retrofitted and new one, I think). After I dissolved the fleet, still the ships wouldn't move, even those with the 6/6 movement. They were frigates and destroyers. I think I had not moved the destroyers before, yet they were properly constructed (6 engines, no warnings). |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
are your other orders being carried out? i presume that your turn file is being accepted and processed correctly. if you are using a mod that the server is not, it could be concieveable that while your turn is being processed, something about the way those ships are handled conflicts with your mod and that bit is ignored.

Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
When it happened to me (I was the other instance). My Fleet veered off course and parked over an allied planet. I tried over several turns to make it move to various places (even just one space away). I even changed which ship was the leader several times. It never budged. Everywhere else my empire functioned perfectly. Including other fleets. It finally moved when I split off about a half dozen ships into a second fleet. Suddenly both fleets moved with the correct orders. The original fleet was only around 20 ships and was fully supplied.
The game was Standard SE4. No Ministers were on. (Though just before they moved I turned them all on and then off again. So this could have also helped.) No Intel was being used (by mutual agreement) |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
And they've definitely got engines? I've upgraded designs before now and accidentally omitted the engines.
Are you playing a mod with Newtonian motion?(ie Pirates and Nomads V2.*) It could be you have a large ship with not enough engines to move it. Failing the explainations above, this is a toughie. Can you answer the following? Like Puke says, how much movement does it tll you you have? What hull are you using for these ships? What engines are you using on this design? Is this the first time you've used this engine/ hull in this game? ------------------ SE4 Code: L GdY $ Fr- C- Sd T!+ Sf-- Tcp-- A% M>M+ MpD! Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
This game I've created is turning against me...
Next turn, fleet that started the problem dissolved, tried to move ships into different directions - nothing moves! Puke: I don't use any mod, just standar 1.41 for which I've created the game. I have the impression that I also can't launch satellites at the moment, yet I could be wrong at that. Building stuff works. I run another game on PBW with the same install where no problems of that kind occured, and this game is in the year 2410. Rich04: I have the problem in two different systems. Both fleets are 3 - 5 ships, it's about the year 2404. Right now I'm trying what you suggested, turning all ministers on and off again. I had to make peace with my neighbour I had just started war with - depressing if you're playing a psychotic and bloodthirsty race! |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
sounds wierd. id be willing to take a look at it, if you wanted to give me access to the file. otherwise, i would recommend sending a copy of the savegame and a problem to description to MM with a note that says you stumped everyone here.

Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
Appreciated, Puke!
Just mail me at vradke@gmx.net and I'll send you the gamefile plus password. Gorgo |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
That seems to remind me of a "change orders" intel op, which has gotten stuck.
If you haven't tried this, you may want to now:
quote:
dissolved the fleet and then made two seperate [fleets], they moved after that

It may be the fleet creation step that gets you past the bug. |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
It's working again!
I don't know exactly how fixed it, yet what I tried was this: Turning all AI ministers on and off in the same turn, like Rich04 suggested. Dissolving fleets and moving only single ships (again). Giving a "warp" order to one frigate. (Btw, a population transport that was run by the AI had no probs to move all the time while everything else was stuck. Gorgo (happy) |
Re: PBW: My ships can\'t move
Well, it did not work for all ships, yet Puke has found out what either caused it or perpetuated the problem:
1 I had individual ministers turned on for each ship (although only resupply and transports; 2 AI setting not to make changes during a simultaneous game was ticked, so if my ships did not move for some reason, the AI would perpetuate this. Puke, who I sent the files to, mailed me that he was able to move the ships after he changed these two settings, so this problem should have been solved by now. Thanks for all your input. This is a very helpful and friendly forum. |
