Death by Mind Hunt message
Well, it bugs me for a long time. When your commander is killed by mind hunt you receive the message: "Alice was mentaly attacked by the enemy mage. Alice was killed by the attack." The message doesnt describe neither class of comander nor location where it happened, so my next thoughts are usually: "Alice? Who the f#ck is Alice?". Having dozens of commanders it takes me to load previous turn, press F1 and browse the names until I find the Alice in the list.
It would be a lot more convenient to receive a message: "Alice the Troll King, was mentaly attacked by the enemy mage. Alice was killed by the attack. The event occured in Silent Hill." |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
That is one small change that would make a difference

Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
On a similar note, how about when you've used site-searching spells the "goto" command is "goto commander". Meh, finding the commander is for the most part a simple press of the n-button, but finding the province to see what sites you found is a hassle. Couldn't it be "goto province" instead? : /
Also, the UI for site-searching spells is a bit stupid sometimes. I'm fine with it 'homing' in on the province the mage is located in if there are no more sites to find, but often the spell skips over provinces that haven't been searched yet, seemingly randomly. Also, it should automatically skip over captured capitals :) |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Agreed on the mind hunt issue. I spent several turns in one game trying to stop a mind hunt attack that was killing a couple commanders a turn, before finally realizing it was hitting my scouts hiding in enemy territory.
Goto province would be really nice for remote site searching. It's a common request. The auto site searching algorithm is at least a bit simple. It searches any unsearched province with less than 2 known sites. That's why it seems to skip randomly. To take advantage of this, I threw together a mod that added an empty site to all the capitals that only had one. It's somewhere over in the mods section. |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Yes, *ALL* events that have locations need to indicate the location.
I'm also tired of discovered a scout messages without locations. I've had nearly the same experience about mind hunt kills that I couldn't figure out--scouts. |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Also, why can't you see your losses when you capture a fortress? :(

Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Yep, those little things have been asked for a while. Still hope this will happen one day - would make sense and seems possible...

Why does the algorithm skip over sites with 2 or more known sites? Isn't the limit 4? |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
It's not a bug, it's intended.
The argument is that there once you've found 2 sites in a province there it's less likely there are any others, so it's more efficient to search other provinces. It's true, but I tend to search all my provinces. Just can't take the chance of missing that 4th really good site. |

Another annoying thing auto-Bowl of Blood targets water provinces while it is known there are no blood sites underwater.

Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Please yes do this please. Please? At least with the remote searches I can look for something that's THERE, with mind hunts I have to look for something that's NOT there, it's a whole different level of pain.

Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
How are we to tell our Yadnif Goo's and our Gunther's and our Paralatus' apart? The elder gods saw fit to fill our tiny minds with confusion on these matters, so mote it be.

Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
The thing that really bugs me about the mind hunt message is that is doesn't tell you WHY the commander succumbed to the attack. Like: "Alice the Troll King was mentally attacked by the enemy mage. When the attack occurred, Alice was severely hungover; it also didn't help that Alice cheated his way through Mind Defense class at community college. Alice was killed by the attack. Alice is survived by his wife Fred the Troll Queen." <!-- / message --> <!-- controls -->

Yeah, the in-game message is severely lacking. |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Some of the messages can be improved by map builders. One of them (sorry I cant remember who) mentioned that he names his provinces with the number. So the province of Dragon Valley would be called Dragon Valley (231). That way some of the messages (assassin attempts?) dont force you to go to the F1 screen and scroll thru all the names to find it. You still use the F1 but can scroll down directly to the location to click.
I plan to remember that and remember to use it on my next mega large map. |
Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Also, if the number is included in the name, pressing # in strategic view will allow you to jump to a province with a spesific number.

Re: Death by Mind Hunt message
Wish granted :) It should be easier to figure out who died in the next patch.
