My unofficial Dom3 trailer

I've uploaded a "homemade":p dom3 trailer on utube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyo-n...e=channel_page

It's not the best trailer ever, but since Dom3 doesn't have any trailers for it, I decided to make my own.

Enjoy(or not:rolleyes:) and comment!;)

I liked the beginning. Its a shame the battles don't look as epic as they could. I really wish the graphical side of this game was as outstanding as the playability.
And just one note on the end. It read www.shrapnelcommunity.co
------------------------------------------------------------m

meaning that it was a bit strange to put the "m" to a new row ;).

Excellent.
It doesnt really reflect the insane depth of the game (being able to spend literally years arguing strategy). But then again, what trailer does? :) This is great work.

Re: My unofficial Dom3 trailer

I liked it. I especially got a laugh out of the picture of Jesus over the desert, given the context within the trailer. I did think the still shots of battles (with units on fire) looked better than the animated sequences. If you did show an animated sequence it might be interesting to click on the states of various units and do pan-and-scan over strength, attack, defense, description, etc.

I've always liked the look of Ermorian legions. It might be cool to show e.g. an Ermorian legion with elephants assaulting EA Abysia, with fireballs and all.

Just thoughts. Nice work!

Nice job, anything that introduces people to Dom3 is a good thing.

Building on Maxwilson's point though, showing more of the unique options of the game like LA Ermor, demonic hoards, and SC's.

Again, nice job.

Wow! Thanks for all the great feedback guys! My next project will probably be a vid. that shows some of the truly unique/cool things in Dom3 like many of you suggested.
This trailer was mainly a test to see if i could make a trailer for a game like dom3.

Yep, I'm aware of that:o It's kinda weird. When i watched my vid. in Windows movie maker that last sentence seemed to be in order, but in the end result that letter got a bit out of place for some unknown reason.

Good trailer, catches the spirit of dom 3.

Very nice one! :) Maybe a little too much OT material, still very good and enjoyable job ;)

Can I ask you what program did you use to record the battle scenes in HQ? I have been planning too (for a long time, there's even a thread somewhere :D ) of making some vids of battles to put on youtube with battle tactics

What scenes are you referring to? Or do you mean all of them?

I actually used two programs. GameCam and Fraps. It does seem that GameCam does not cooperate well with Dom3. When I record a battle with it the colors turn all blue like you could see in the vid. Fraps works well though, but I had only acess to the trial version and besides GameCam is a program with more features. For example, you can zoom in and out with GameCam, you can't with Fraps. But for some basic battle tactic vids. I suggest that you try out the Fraps trial.

Hope that helped out a bit:)

Yay, in fact the blue abysians looked a bit funny :cold: Fall/Winter Season outfit?

Thanks for the answer ;)

Isnt that what happens when they try to invade Jotunheim?
(Or any other cold nation)

Maybe you could cut together a series of movement selects (you know, the arrows that move towards a province), and as the arrows hit the province on the map there could be an effect that makes it look like the map cracks.

The music and sound were picked well, but you might want to consider removing that homemade laugh at the end. Considering the tension you're trying to build it's best not to have it end with something that makes it sound like it was all a joke ;)

I can't tell how much effort you put into it of course, so I might be suggesting things too hard to do...

i love you trailer, great work. How do you did those "camera fly over landscape" sequences ? Is ist a function of the graphic setup from dom3 ?

free camera command maybe

(BTW Horst sorry I had to answer your mail but I was very busy lately. Will answer in a couple of days :) )

Battleground editor, press space to hide the menu, use arrow keys to move.

I like the in-game scenes and the music although it's not from Dom3, and I can see the blue Abysians. :) I don't like the licensed material (300 most notably, as it has been overused on the net) and the page-flipping transition animation. :( Simple transitions like fade to black/white or just no transition at all works better, I think, look at e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxGlZ_vpkS0

Yea, I used a bit too much 'non-dom3' material, but mainly because dom3 hasn't much to use in a trailer. Plenty of things for a gameplay-video but I believe that trailers should show more atmosphere and/or storyline of a game.
Anyway, thanx for the constructive criticism. It helps alot:D

It could be better, but it's nice to see someone actually do a trailer.

I'm currently studying 3d modeling for games. It will include animation projects. Once I'm good at it, I'd like to try and do a Dom3 trailer that uses 3d-models made by referencing sprites and such. It will take two years or so, probably. It'

Endo, in case you don't know it yet, you could look for inspiration at the DOTA Endless Story video, then, which uses very impressive 3D animations for turning pages in a book. It would be harder to do for Dom3, though, because they already had 3D models that they could extract and import from the game, you'd have to start from scratch - or get matching 3D models from elsewhere.

I could already try doing a 3d book animation like that. I don't think I would be able to make it look quite as good, but I don't think it's that difficult. It could be that the "looks good" part is the one most difficult to learn, though... :D

It can be hard to say what is and isn't difficult, though. The effects are especially hard to judge. 3D models don't do themselves, but effects can be deceptively easy. We learned to fire hundreds of arrows (affected by wind and gravity, to make them stick to whatever they hit, and do that little twitching afterwards) - in two hours.

Just because you'd like to see better trailers doesn't mean you should leave your own trailer measle. The higher standard you set for others, the better stuff others will try to make.

With some research you might find public domain 3d images already available which might help decide which nations to use. Undead? Cthulhu? Maybe some Narnia images for Pangaea? Angels for Caelum? Surely it wouldnt be hard to find some for nations like Ulm and Marignon that might need some slight color changes.

Of course all your own work would be great also.

Only suggestion is 3+ minutes is a long time on the internet for someone to watch a video. Might want to trim it to half that.
