[Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Hi,
My wife is a part time artist. Given, very small part and very little time but somewhat of an artist nonetheless. So in the past I've taken advantage of her talent and asked her to create some dom III based miniatures (Wyrm and Scorpion man for instance), with a magnetic back so I could use them @ office. That came out nicely and since she is lately into painting I thought I'd ask her to draw a painting based on an "Epic" dom character. I had in mind the A. Seraph but I'm looking for any opinions on what would make a painting worthy of dominions. If its of any interest I could post here a pic. of the end result. TIA, WL |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Well, my first thought would be a doom horror...
|
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
The pics of the miniatures and the painting would be great, I'm very curious

Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Ahhmm good suggestion but I'm afraid it may freak her out :)
Perhaps something more banal will do. |

Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Some of the more impressive pretenders would be good, such as Lord of the Desert Sun or Moloch, but the angels are a good choice.
|
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
The thing with angels is there're already a bazillion pictures of them on the web.
Maybe see which things she likes herself? Some of the dominions races are very interesting. I'd suggest something a little less overtly powerful but still powerful in its own way. Something like an Abysian or Bandar commander. Or a Venherse or the Helheim equivalent. |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Deva, the dark-skinned, four-armed pretender would be nice if she doesn't mind drawing skulls and blood.
A Bandar Log war meeting would be good if she'd like to draw monkeys and/or would like to make it more comedic. Ask her what kind of a scene/characters she'd be willing to try and you can easily pick something from Dominions. If she happens to like drawing/painting skeletons, describe Ermor. If she happens to like drawing/painting forests, a forest scene with a meditating monkey Guru or a LA Pangaea Grove Guard or that Marverni Great Boar summon wouldn't be a stretch. Comedy? Winged Monkeys. What's better than a group of winged monkeys tormenting a sleeping guy, or taking him away, or accidentally letting him fall into the sea? :p |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Wraithlord,
How about painting "Hidden in Sand" - some undead rising up from the desert - could double as a Malazan illustration as needed :) |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
I would like to see more gui-screen mods and poster material for each nation.

Or more of the great t-shirt ideas from the Dom2 project fleshed out with some artwork. It wouldnt have to be extensive art. It can be a doodle for a tshirt. Some great ideas never got done. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=18823 |

Interesting images to play with -
Pan Lizard Shaman Lizard King (I had to) Wyrm Ageless Olm Aboleth Mind Lord Tartarian (various) Foul Spawn Anointed of Rhuax (fullblood Abysian) If she had fun doing the lizard warrior, and it came out well enough, I'd recommend the King or Shaman, and branching out from there. |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Two pages and no mention of bog beasts? What is wrong with you people?
|
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
We already have a dancing bog beast video. Why do we need a poster?
Next you will be making it an idol. :) |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Thanks for all the feedback guys.
I took llama's advice and just asked her what she'd like to paint -- It seems like either nature or water related stuff are of interest. There goes my chance for a hand made DOM Seraph painting. Why did I ask in first place? Quote:
Makes you wonder though, the artists in the community are awful quiet as of late. Maybe there should be some dom art competition or something alike arranged to bring out the good stuff from the talented players. |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Yeah. One of the things Id like to do is put the entire Keypress Chart onto some items. Small poster, mousepad. A coffee mug for late-night gaming would be perfect.
For some reason there is no full chart. Not in the game, the manual, the FAQ, etc. The closest I can find is on the wiki and even that one isnt totally complete. It would also make a nice background screen. Or make a really small map (dueling map or battlesim map) and make the image around it much larger, then plaster the outer edges with the keypress charts. Just another item on my long list of projects. |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Nature or Water.....
I'd still suggest the Pan, either that, or a Queen of Water rising up from a lake and smashing a group of demon knights, tossing them around like rag dolls. :D |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Demon Knights DON'T get tossed around like rag dolls!!
(Or do they? I'm building a lot of them in my game, don't wanna get surprised too late :D) |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
A Queen of Elemental Water would be pretty cool... Perhaps with some mermidon falling in behind her?
Ooh, it would also be cool (and perhaps more interesting to an artist) to draw a merman in the process of shedding its tail and replace it with legs :) |

Kappas! Everybody love Kappas! Mmmh... :D
Another nice subject... the Colossal Fetish!! ;) Jokes aside. Big part of "Dom3-bein-so-good"'s the mix of very different cultures that come to meet and fight - a bit like in Conan, but more. Maybe she could watch you playing a bit and get the inspiration to paint some representatives of normally distant cultures (Like, a Rudra and a Niefel Jarl; Onis and Ermorians; Ulmish and Machakans) doing diplomacy, exchanging gems and artefacts as gifts, or just clashing if she likes the genre :) |
Re: [Possibly OT] Dominions Art
Hmm... asp turtle? Sea serpent? Starspawn? Naiad warrior?
