Inner Furnace - another lie our manuals have told?

I knew it from the manual since long before that this spell must penetrate MR to work, but today I also found by chance that all indy units are candidates to this spell's effect as well.

Luckily that was not a decisive battle using hundreds of archers guarding some VIPs but a small SP game. But I still found it very odd and a great hamper for its use. Would you think it another bug or just throw our manuals away?
(Hmmm... I mean if you don't like your manuals any more, feel free to send it to me.)

It's not really a bug. It's made to work on all friendly units. I guess it doesn't fit the description exactly.

Does it actually have the MR roll? I was playing around with Abysia recently and all the units I checked had the boost. Including Devils and others with decent MR. I wasn't specifically looking for the mr, so I could have missed it.

I think this is a reoccurence of a bug.

A few patches back, Abysias Inner furnace spell affected all units.
It was posted as a bug, with discussion as I recall.

Patch came out, and it only affected abysian national troops.

I seem to recall this, as I was playing abysia in a game when the patch came out and I was using this particular feature.

Militia are much more interesting when they are flaming molotovs.

I'd buglist discuss it and see what happens.

I thought it just boosted anything with a heat aura, instead of just Abysians as the description claims. Does it really affect everything?

I am pretty sure it affects every friendly units, given the mr roll is passed.
In my game two militias got heat aura as well.

Pretty sure the Furnace working on even enemy units was a cbm bug, not a vanilla one.

I just checked a battle in a cbm game. It did affect all friendly units.
No enemy ones though.

One casting seemed to affect everyone, though. Even all the high mr summons and mages. At least in CBM, I don't think there's an MR check. Certainly not an easily resisted one.

I saw it resisted by some friendly MR10 units when I tested it. Cannot remember if the test game was CBM or not though.

I always thought it worked like thejeff wrote, and would only affect units with a heat aura. Huh...

Yep, I already heard that. Bug? Doesn't seem too cogent and contradicts the manual also.

Re: Inner Furnace - another lie our manuals have told?

Just tested it without CBM. The MR check is definitely present and probably easy (+4). It does affect non-Abysian units and units that don't already have a heat aura.
Both Humanbred and regular militia got a heat aura. Summer Lions, who already have one, never increased it, but that may be due to high MR.

I have to say I'd like the spell a lot better if it didn't have the MR check and only affected either Abysians or units with heat auras. I don't think the heat aura boost is really that strong. Certainly not worth trying to spam a spell that costs gems.
And giving a heat aura to non fire resistant units is counterproductive.

At one time, it DID only affect units with a heat aura.

Why are you using non fire res units with abysia and why are you casting inner furnace in that case?

Re: Inner Furnace - another lie our manuals have told?

> Why are you using non fire res units with abysia?

Because my opponent is not expecting to run into a pile of Ice Drakes/Storm Demons/whatever.

> why are you casting inner furnace in that case?

Because the spell description in the manual says it's a buff to "Abysia units" which "expands their radius of heat effects". Where I misinterpret "Abysia units" to mean "Abysian national units" not "units owned by the Abysian nation", and where I believe "expands their radius of heat effects" does not mean "grant heat auras to units that do not already have heat effects." And if I've got a bunch of Storm Demons behind my Aby infantry, it might be useful for that Aby infantry to fry anything that wanted to charge forward and chop up my Storm Demons, so I cast Inner Furnace to turn up the heat.

Re: Inner Furnace - another lie our manuals have told?

Archers? Indy Mages? Both of which can easily be placed away from your heat auras.

And I'd be casting Inner Furnace because it wouldn't bother them if it worked as
described.

Edit: Or what vfb said.
