Doom Horrors

Who is your favorite doom horror?
Scabiel,Maker of ruins?
Kurgi,Slave to unreason?
Hruvur,Abomination of desolation?
Rarku,Hunter of heroes?
Umor,Eater of gods?

Mine is Scabiel, because he's pretty loyal and his 500 siege bonus is nice.

Re: Doom Horrors

It's also Scabiel for me. I remember going through the list of units and finding the Doom Horrors for the first time. Scabiel was the first one that really struck out in its absurdity - siege bonus HOW MUCH?

Umor is a close second. "When did they update the symbol for etherealn... what is this?!"

Re: Doom Horrors

Rarku, for how many lives he has and how uncool meeting with him can be.

Re: Doom Horrors

To be honest.. I've never met any of them.. hardly seen a horror at all to be honest :D

Re: Doom Horrors

I've never met any in "real life," but the next time you watch a battle replay, Aezeal, type Shift+'U' and then "Slave To Unreason" and watch Kurgi eat both armies.

Re: Doom Horrors

Scabiel, though I wonder why Agon, the Eater of Dreams, is not included in the poll?

Re: Doom Horrors

Hruvur just looks cool, plus Abomination of Desolation sounds so much more horrofic than the other horrors.

Re: Doom Horrors

Kurgi, he reminds me of the Zerg. I thought that Umor was the one with multiple lives, not Rarku.

Re: Doom Horrors

Maybe if someone gets frisky, they could make a "Know Your Doom Horrors" thread, for those of us who are Horror-deficient. :D

Re: Doom Horrors

Well, I've only met Kurgi and Umor in real mp games (I've seen them all in test games). And I don't like any of them. I guess Umor is the most powerful though.

Re: Doom Horrors

I'm going with Rarku. He's not the most dangerous, by a long shot, but I'm a sucker for a pretty face. Hruver is a close second, Mr. Congeniality I suppose.

Re: Doom Horrors

I've yet to see any of them, and I've played steadily since the original Dominions. I must be doing something wrong.:(

Re: Doom Horrors

You don't usually see them. There used to be a bug which made the Hunter of Heroes attack all the time, but I don't think I've seen them in-game after that. You need severe horror mark to get them, and/or that horror-calling global (Astral Corruption?), and horror-summoning spells too for good measure. Or Wish, but then they might just eat your wish-caster.

Re: Doom Horrors

With AC up, the Hunter of Heroes seems to go after HoF heroes with more than 300 kills. The others are more likely to show if AC is up and you spend about something more than 100 gems on a non-blood ritual.

Zeldor December 30th, 2008 10:31 AM

Re: Doom Horrors

I had Hunter of Heroes attack my HoF pretender that had between 100 and 150 kills, no AC up. Abomination of Desolation visited him too few turns earlier.

Re: Doom Horrors

Was he horror marked?

Zeldor December 30th, 2008 12:40 PM

Re: Doom Horrors

Yeah. He had a small collection of horror marks :)

Swan December 30th, 2008 02:16 PM

Re: Doom Horrors

Someone know the chance for the horror to attack the summoner?
Because i wished for them with my pretender (horror marked) and umor attacked me twice and i never get him, scabiel was controlled at the first try and never left me, while the others attacked me once before i could get them and stayed only for 5-10 turns, so i'm curios if any doom have different chances to attack or not.

Can't you just script Returning?

Re: Doom Horrors

I had the Eater of Gods attack my pretender in the SlowBoat game. He was an E9W9 cyclops with a few Def boosts and the Summit. The Eater didn't last long for some reason.

Re: Doom Horrors

Scabiel FTW me too. IIRC got it after a big horror marking SP test session early when I got the game :)

Does anyone know if the strenght of the horror mark increases with the S level of the HM caster? Tried with communions and got the HoH on a pretender after 2/3 casts, but I´m not good with logs and maths so can´t figure out well if that worked or not :p

Re: Doom Horrors

Kurgi.

First, he makes some of the nasty artifacts in the game. Second, he is a more established character thanks to the aforementioned artifacts. Third, he's less of a being and more of thing as his form just doesn't make any sense. He's a motionless blob with a map move of 10! Finally, the fact that his motivations and perceptions are completely unreasonable makes him the scariest of them all.
