A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

I don't understand how these weapons work exactly, and I was hoping someone could explain them each in some way that made sense:doh:

Poor cross-links, we knew thee well!

Thank you soooooo much for yet another useless and/or petty reply, Fyron.

You must lead an amazingly flat life Fyron, to take up so much time and effort simply being petty or nitpicking, instead of either simply moving on or even actually just answering the question.

No one else seems to be bothered like you are, so why not simply leave well enough alone instead of hijacking a post with petty gripes?

Really, is that all the interest or focus you have anymore?

Funny, I did answer the question, and linked directly to the reply... Not my fault if you can't take a joke.

I guess we just have VERY different ideas about what humor is....

I take it you didn't actually read what Fyron linked to then.
He provided a great answer.

You are being a bit rude here.

The line "Poor cross-links, we knew thee well!" seemed like such a ridiculous thing to say that it couldn't be taken seriously, but I guess such humor doesn't translate well on the Internet.

Actually, I did. And MY comment wasn't in response to the link in that post, but the continual sarcasm.

And as to being rude - maybe so.

However, given the recent sniping match with Fyron over HIS opinion of MY choices in posting style, I tend to think of it as even ground.

Re: A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

There has been no "sniping match" on my side. Please drop the ad hominems. Thanks.

Re: A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

This back and forth is pointless.

I find I personally dislike Fyron's style and manner most times. He has his own issues with me and mine. Neither are important or relevant.

Neither are they worthwhile to this forum. I'd like to put this to rest, and simply state we will just never agree with or accept the each others perspective on certain issues and let it end here and now with that.

Re: A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

You are the only party participating in the sniping and personal attacks these past few days; there is only a forth, not a back, here. I don't know why you and capnq felt the need to degrade the whole discussion with them, but I think an apology is in order.

Well, so much for dropping the issue....:re:

Hence the differences in perspective I mentioned.

Uh, again, maybe those differences in perspective I mentioned.

I wouldn't suggest holding your breath on this one. :haha:

For the record - I did try to put an end to this in a dignified manner....

Re: A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

Personal attacks are not a "difference in perspective." Perspective falls by the wayside when one stops discussing the issue at hand in favor of attacking the character of other parties in the discussion (hence, ad hominem). The only dignified way to end a series of such attacks is an apology; trying to brush such behavior under the rug by claiming it is just a difference in perspective is certainly not it.

Black_Knyght January 12th, 2009 03:16 AM

Re: A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

Again, I defer to the aforementioned difference in perspective.

Let me clarify:

You are admittedly one of the most knowledgeable individuals currently around concerning Space Empires. Your answers tend to be informative and concise, if occasionally abrupt. You have, when it suits you, been helpful and a great source of information.

You also have a demonstrated tendency towards what may fairly be considered unwarranted sarcasm or rudeness directed towards others, regardless of the individual or post.

In more than a few of your responses to a number of posts you have responded with what I, and apparently others (such as CapnQ, for example), feel to be an inappropriate "smart-***" or "belittling" attitude that seems to stem from a self-applied position of superiority. A behavior that can be seen by some as a personal attack.

You've chosen to toss the Latin phrase "Ad Hominem" at me.

Ad Hominem:

1 : appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect

This definition hardly applies to any of my actions, as I've responded to what you HAVE done, rather than simply seek an emotional response or act on prejudice.

I said you complained about posts such as mine wasting the time of others unduly, while you yourself did virtually the same thing in espousing YOUR opinion of my posts rather than simply responding to or ignoring them. At best that is defined as a matter of perspective, or a difference of opinion.

2 : marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made

This definition seems to more appropriately apply to yourself.

"trying to brush such behavior under the rug by claiming it is just a difference in perspective"
I made the contention that you were being sarcastic and something of a hypocrite. You responded with a classic "some people can't take a joke" mentality of a archetypal bullying personality. You chose redirection using a Latin quote, feign both innocence and ignorance of transgression while demonstrating both an observant and educated mindset. Sarcasm can quite easily be seen as a personal attack, most especially if it occurs on a frequent basis. I have no doubt you are indeed aware of that.

I would have preferred that this NOT have gone this far. I actually tried to drop the matter, not for MY sake, and most certainly not for YOURS. I think this pointless issue is unresolvable between us and detrimental to this forum. No more, no less.

What's this? Are we in the middle of an old fashioned SEIII-style flame war?

Watch out man, Fyron is a former League of Empires president.

Fyron January 13th, 2009 03:04 AM

Re: A question concerning Tractor, Repulsor, and Wormhole Beams

Pshaw! The big flame wars were long before my time.

Black_Knyght:
Your continued deflection of your own behavior onto others grows wearying.

Fyron, this has become a truly dead horse. Continue if it makes you feel good, but I'm through beating it......
