Is Llamaserver acting up?
 

I went into www.llamaserver.net to check ona couple of games and scores and it was real slow coming up...

THEN

It said "llamaserver os broke" seriously!!!

i checked some of the other links on there and no problem.

Just the list of games.

Anyone else get in there ok? Its 9:09 CST USA:confused:

Yep it really came slower than normal and stopped updating since "03:15 GMT on Friday January 16th". Now it's 3:30 GMT.

submitted my turn and got a new turn file. however the the update page still says waiting for turn file.
I think its sick.

Actually I'm here. Hmm, it seems fine now. There were a load of mysterious errors in the night though, I'm not sure what to make of them. Hopefully it will behave well now. Please PM me if you get any funny behaviour (of the "My game didn't host properly" sort, rather than the website being slow, cos I can't fix that).

In general if the website acts up that doesn't necessarily (or even probably) mean there's anything wrong with the server. The website is some commercial hosting service, while the LlamaServer itself is just a computer of mine.

So stuff like Origin only having had its turn number updated since the last turn rolled over will correct itself? It says the page was just updated and the turn was hosted early tonight...

The web server is still being a little weird, so there are probably some mysterious errors lingering about in the etherwebs. In any case, thanks for the explanation!

Hmm, actually there's definitely something up. It complains everytime it tries to update the website - I'm not sure it's actually managing to upload any updates at all. Nothing's changed at my end though, so I think probably it's a glitch with the web server. For the moment, it's probably best not to trust it, but just go on the information in the e-mails. I've put a note to that effect on the front page as well.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

Yeah, but when I wrote my post it hadn't been that long and the actual game rolled over to turn 54 seven hours prior to that... The submitted turns represented on the page are since yesterday night and it still says "Next turn due: 10:05 GMT on Friday January 16th"

I've slapped messages all over the website now telling people to ignore it. Hopefully everyone can cope without the website for a little while. I'm hoping it'll be hours, but if it's still broken tomorrow I'll contact tech support, or investigate more thoroughly whether it might somehow be my fault.

In the meantime, trust the e-mails, because they're still reliable. And remember that the website being down doesn't mean the server's down! I'd hate for people to stale because they thought everything had stopped.

Ha! I'm a genius. I fixed it. I say I'm a genius - I've no idea why I had to change things, but I googled the error message and apparently I had to change the ftp calls to passive mode, so I did, and now it works. So really I'm a google monkey.

It is still a bit mysterious why I had to change things, but it could easily be either an increase in security here, or some change in the web server settings.

Great, the gameinfo pages seem to have been updated.
Though the score tables are still lagging, perhaps that'll solve itself?

Gandalf doesn't have multiple accounts on this forum; that's against forum rules. I don't know why anyone should care who has what accounts on some other forum.

Well I don't want to derail this thread or anything. I'm just mocking Gandalf because he at the very least /did/ have multiple forum accounts (which he used to troll and 'flame' himself - as Gandalf Parker and Wikd Thots, feel free to look it up). He also signed onto the IRC channel a couple of times recently as Blog Beast to 'flame' himself again, generally troll and deny that he's the same person.

So does he have multiple accounts /now/? I'd guess he does because it's apparently his MO, but I don't actually care, it's just fun to joke about.

It has basically been shown to a reasonable standard that Gandalf has used multiple alts on this forum. It certainly does not beggar belief that he might be doing so again.

As to violating TOS, forgive me here, but what TOS is Sombre accused of violating? He's merely stating what we consider a fact - and it's not even that important a fact, just a bit weird. Multiple accounts don't really concern me; abusing mod priviledges, otoh, would be of great concern.


Gandalf, to be clear, are you stating that you have not previously used the Wikd Thotz persona or name for your own purposes? As we know, Wikd Thotz was previously banned from these fora for flaming, after a long career talking about Gandalf and his posts ;p

Actually pretty much everyone lost multiple accounts at the update of the forum software. At the time my login was gp1628 and Gandalf Parker was the real name associated with it.

Not sure why Wikd Thotz is being dredged up. I didnt ban him. Staff did. But I did get in trouble for editing a post of his (which I still swear was an accident). We now have strict moderator rules about it.

As far as the ToS, the link under Forum Rules, and the section on User Fighting. I think Sombre stated his purpose. But thats up to staff or another moderator to decide. Ive always asked that moderators not moderate themselves.

Well this isnt the way it should have gone down. Probably it would have been best brought to the attention of a moderator, or staff. This way it appears as if there is an agenda. A rather suicidal one it seems. No matter what a person feels has gone wrong with the forums or a person on them the forum rules makes it fairly clear that a rabble rousing public discussion is not approved of.

Im not sure what I would have achieved pretending to be one of my biggest pains on the forum. Ive been accused of being just about everyone ever banned from here but that one seems the least reasonable to me. I have stated that I play Dominions without being Gandalf Parker (except for the Beta group) but those people are not on this forum. Even if I was not a moderator, I would not go against anything Ive been asked not to do.

Gandalf has previously stated (and re-stated in this thread) that he has other accounts on other forums for when he wants to play "out of character" (e.g. evil sneaky backstabber), but none of them are on this forum. I believe him. You don't, obviously, but that's your own business and not mine.

What's wrong with the postponed message? Looks fine to me.

The page seems to have fixed itself - it no longer says you submitted a file. Some of them may have needed some event to happen to update themselves - perhaps your postponement did the trick.

If you catch any other weirdnesses, could you e-mail or PM me? I'm trying not to use the internet much at the moment.

Folks, I'm locking up this thread. Multiple accounts are not allowed on this forum for any purpose. We heavily moderate all new registrations, and any known multiple accounts are banned. Sombre, you would need to come up with some pretty compelling proof of the true identity of Wikd Thots and the reason for that account being banned, because what you're claiming as fact is not the way it went it down. Making unfounded accusations against a moderator of these forums because you think it's fun won't be tolerated. If you have a valid complaint, take it through the proper channels. Otherwise, you're trolling.
