EA DarkHeavens (Game on!)

Players: 6-10+, depending on interest.
Server: LlamaServer (automated play-by-email, FAQ below)
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=35160
Hosting interval: Initially 24 hours, 48 at Turn 20, 72 at 50
Age: Early
Graphs: On
Settings: Default except for renaming on, Magic Site at 55% (+10%, which tends to mean that people generally get the gem types they need)
Mods: None (non-negotiable)
Map: random and 15 per player. Note that 15 per player is a tight map which will lead to early wars rather than later wars.
Rules: Anything goes. Unless you are hacking files or spamming email/mail, any tactic allowed by the game is considered fair game.

Exception: If you make a Pact with someone, record it in the game thread with the Turn (and record when you end it). If you don't want to record it for any reason (eg. secret pact), then there shouldn't be any complaining about pact-breakers in the game thread.

Nation--Player:
Lanka - K
Marveni - hEad
Mictlan - BigandScary
Sauromatia - gotchaaa
Abysia - Amonchakad
Arco - Grudgebringer
Fomoria - Tyrant
Oceania - Juffos
Neifleheim - AlphineJoe
Ermor - AreaOfEffect
Ulm - BigDisAwesome
Kailasa - Fickle
Tien Chi - Dark_Kitty
Helheim - Ossa
Agartha - Torin
Atlantis - Revolution
Tir Na Nog - Lickr

Game on!

.

I'll join, as Mictlan

Sauromatia plz =)

Amonchakad January 25th, 2009 10:09 AM

Count me in as Abysia:)

Juffos January 25th, 2009 10:34 AM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

If water nations are allowed, sign me in as Oceania. If not, then as Caelum.

GrudgeBringer January 25th, 2009 10:43 AM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

EA...I'll take Arco

analytic_kernel January 25th, 2009 10:53 AM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

I like your game concept: vanilla play and random map. If you are still looking for more players a couple days from now, then I'll join. And, you can then randomly assign me any nation that is left, as I'm still uncomfortable with all them....

Alpine Joe January 25th, 2009 02:34 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

Can I get in as Niefelheim?

Tyrant January 25th, 2009 02:42 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

Fomoria please

BigDisAwesome January 25th, 2009 03:24 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

I'd like in. I wouldn't mind a random nation picked myself.

AreaOfEffect January 25th, 2009 05:59 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

Atlantis please

Edit: Nevermind, I'd rather be Ermor.

Fickle January 25th, 2009 10:35 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

Kailasa please

hEad January 25th, 2009 11:06 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

What do you folks think about role playing a game of Dom3? Is it something you do or are you more inclined to just converse in a normal manner?

Dark Kitty January 26th, 2009 06:22 AM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

I would like to join as Tien Chi, if there is still some room

llamabeast January 26th, 2009 06:43 AM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

hEad: the role-playing dom3 game Chronicles_EA is just about to start, and Gandalf's just dropped out. You might ask there if you can join at the last minute if you're interested.

Cheers! I put the word on them.. see what happens.

I'd like to join as Helheim if there is still some room for more players.

Torin January 26th, 2009 02:25 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

I would like to join. I will decide my nation, or random if im not fast enough

Revolution January 26th, 2009 05:02 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

I'll take EA Atlantis to give Oceania some underwater competition unless you wanted to stop at 12 players, in which case I'm overflow.

Torin January 26th, 2009 05:12 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

Ill be Kailasa if i may. Atlantis is taken but Rlieh is free.

Torin, as you can see, Kailasa has already been asked for. As for Atlantis, I changed my mind (didn't like the prospects of their research curve) and so it was available when Revolution asked for it.

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

If you want/need more players I will join as Tir.

If not that's fine too :)

Torin January 26th, 2009 06:50 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

Ok ill be Agartha if Kailasa is taken.
Any chance of llama's banners mod?
They look better than the originals and don't modify the game.

K January 26th, 2009 07:23 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Sign-up!)

OK, I'll be closing the game entry at 11:59 PM PST (California time) and setting up the game then. It looks like we have a big game!

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Submit pretenders!

BigDisAwesome January 27th, 2009 02:40 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

I set a test game up to randomly pick a nation and it's gonna be Ulm. I'll work on getting my pretender done.

Torin January 27th, 2009 07:17 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Clever way of randoming. I used to make excel rnd numbers

AreaOfEffect January 27th, 2009 09:03 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

That's nothin'. For pretender design I set up an AI opponent of the faction I'm going to play and then beat them down with double-bless giants. After I get a glimps of the AI's god and a good look at his scales I can reconstruct the entire build. I then use that for the build in my MP game.

Torin January 27th, 2009 09:11 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

That's Random allright.
Maybe you can discover a new strategy alltogether.

I'm fairly sure its a random job..

Fair enough, but we still need it don't we?

Or am I missing something?

Torin January 28th, 2009 11:12 AM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Yes, I was wondering that too. The browse maps at llamaserver doesnt work for me.

Me neither, whats the deal with it? Its like being in a pub with no money.

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

So far I've only been able to pull up the thumbnail of the map by extracting it from the source code of the llamaserver web pages. The page has an error where the thumbnail array isn't defined properly I think.

I'm hoping for a little plot of land to the North-East.

http://www.llamaserver.net/mapThumbs/DarkHeavens.png

Edit: I believe this might be the maps description...

233 land + 22 sea.
No fixed starts.
Just a regular fightin' map.

llamaserver doesn't seem to have a link available for download. I'm sure our admin will provide the map when the last player submits a pretender.

(One final note: I hate html generated from applications as they are a pain to read.)

Revolution January 28th, 2009 04:50 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Randomly generated starts eh? (hopes he does not end up in one of the 1 province pools)

K January 28th, 2009 04:59 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

That's the map.

I've tried fixed starts before and it tends to lead to accusations of game-fixing, so random is the way to go.

I thought llamaserver provided a link to the map that I put on the server, but if it doesn't I'll post it once the pretenders are in.

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Sorry Guys, I have to go on a business trip on 2nd - 4th of Feb.
If it's ok with all of you to hold on during these 3 days, I will upload my sauromatia pretend tonight. If it's not, feel free to find someone to replace me.

AreaOfEffect January 28th, 2009 10:48 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

I'm okay with that. I think you should just submit. You never know, depending on how the random placement works out, we might need time to restart the game anyhow.

That said, people might have to deal so long as their placement is workable and not absolutely terrible.

In an attempt to avoid a river to tears on turn 1, have the northern ponds and the provinces with less than 3 neighbors been designated no starts?

GrudgeBringer January 28th, 2009 11:46 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

I agree...people have to deal with a random map start.

But I also agree with Revolution that there is no reason to have to have such a bad start as to make that person long to be put out of the game.

I think Revolutions idea is a good one...(I am no modder so I have no idea if this can be done), Have some areas where there just is NO WAY you can get a start if you are placed there marked as no start.

Other than that or sitting on someones lap at the start..lets roll!!!

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Ok. Then I will upload the pretender as soon as I get home ( 6 hours later)..

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

Any chance of another host for downloading the map? or would someone email it to me if they are feeling generous? - llamaserver map browser just doesn't like me.

I have the same problem. Could someone please offer a solid link to the map, so I can check my turn?

I am a slow person.

OK, map is above. Jeffos posted juuust as I did it.

Did the game start already? I just finished up my pretender and was about to email in. According to Llamaserver turn 1 is sent out, and somebody else uploaded an Ulm pretender cause that's not me.

What'd I miss?

Torin January 30th, 2009 04:04 PM

Re: EA DarkHeavens (Upload Pretenders!)

that someone already played his/her turn. I guess K can check the email in the game's settings
